Hi guys
I was helping a friend move the last of his stuff from his parents house today and he was throwing out all his old toy soldiers. As I was allowed to help myself to anything I picked up four boxes backed with epic bits thinking they might be worth something (He was happy to give the stuff away but he couldnt be bothered to sell it...). There is alot of chaos stuff and it got me thinking maybe I should make an army...
People have told me to play the game before and it seems popular in my local area but can anyone sell it to me?
I dont want to buy anything really but im happy to paint these new toys.
Here is some of the stuff that I have sorted out.
20 stands of Chaos space marines
10 stands of chaos squats
10 of those old Space Crusade walkers (use as dreds?)
20 stands of Juggernauts
10 stands of beast men
18 stands of Slaanesh steeds
4 stands of old chaos androids
8 stands of Chaos Marines riding Screamers? Or Discs?
There are lots of marine units aswell including dozens of rhinos and landraiders plus untold numbers of marines. These could probably be used to substitute for a few more units...
Would it be possible to make a half decent army out of these? Please bare in mind I have never played epic and all I know is that "Your shadowswords pwned my titan" (I have heard this said alot).

You probably have enough to do a 2k game with them (2-5k are what the lists are balanced for, 3k is average).
20 stands of Marines could be gamed as two units of 8 retinues, and one unit of 4 for a forlorn hope. That's 675 (275 + 275 + 125). If you have Rhinos to mount them up that be an extra 100 points (10 each). The Juggies could be proxied as two units of 8 bikes (that's another 600 points). You can also use the Landraiders as well (75 each, formations of 4-8). The Dreads are 50 each and bought as upgrades.

Thanks for the advice. Would this be a balanced army?
I was digging through some of the SM stuff and found 16 stands of bikers, 12 stands of assault marines, 8 terminator stands lots of devestators and a bunch of bits that I think I could convert some planes out of. There were also alot of trolls, minotaurs and old robots that I would like to try my hand at making some oblitorators with.
I really like the look of infantry with rhino transports so if they are good or bad I would really like to include some.
Is there any chance you could help me put together a list?

Raptor Cult (6 stands) 210pts
Terminators (4 stands) 260pts
Chaos retinue (8 stands + 4/8 rhinos) 275pts + 40/80pts?
Chaos retinue (8 stands + 4/8 rhinos) 275pts + 40/80pts?
Forlorne Hope (4 stands + 2/4 rhinos) 125pts + 20/40pts?
Chaos Bikers (8 stands) 300pts
Armoured company (4 land raiders) 300pts
(I wasnt sure if you could fit two squads of marines into a single rhino or if it was just one? I vaugely remember in 40k being able to fit 10 marines in a rhino but it has been a long time since I have payed much attention to it.)
I would like to throw in some demon units especially on the terminators, raptors and the forlorne hope. I will happily use the old chaos androids (look a little like necrons) or some of the beastmen for this. I would like to try and get some drednaughts in there and/or some oblitorators. Maybe some flyers?
I wouldnt mind at some point converting some of the bigger warmachines. But can I get by without them at the moment?

There's always the possibility to repurpose WM demons for Epic.

That's a good core army. You'll eventually need aircraft and/or AA units and something to take on war engines, but at 2000 points, you're fine.
I'm a big fan of the Havocs upgrade. It makes the formation expensive, but it packs a ton of firepower and is very durable. They make a great garrison and if you do that you can set them up on Overwatch. It's very good area denial.

You could use the mounted units (Juggers, Disc Riders, Beastriders) as proxy bikes or, since you have plenty of those, proxy them as daemonic beasts if you want daemons. You could even cut off the riders if you wanted to.
There is a Fanatic Online article about scratch-building Death Wheels. I don't think it's available directly, but I'm sure you could dig up a copy with some internet searching. I haven't priced it out in a while, but I think buying the main parts of it (40K Chaos sprues and such from GW) was something like a minimum of $50, but that gave you enough parts to build about 3.
There are also a variety of potential proxies for other daemon engines if you look around hard enough. Epicomms has a lot of fan sculptors doing stuff so you might be able to get them to trade with you.
Don't use the Androids. They are worth a lot on eBay. People use them to proxy Necrons and they are rare. You could probably sell or trade 2:1 or better for daemons if that's what you're looking for.
