Hi, I'm about to start a 1000 pt Chaos force for the Tale of WM painters and I'm after some advice. What about:
General 125
Sorcerer 90
Hero 80
Knights 200
Chariot 95
Warriors 150
2 Marauders 120
2 Hounds 60
Harpies 65
985.

Looks ok.
I prefer the marauder-warrior-ogre-marauder inf brigade, but try that one out later.
A double sorc AngerOfTheGods-bomb is a very effective defender. And you have the points for it.
1000p? These battles tend to be over in 30 min, but that is probably no news for you.
2 hounds for every 1000p in a Chaos army is the way to go. These little basterds are awesome kamikaze units and they do give you that extra numbers when counting break points.
Maybe change the Knight for another Chariot and add one Ogre? Break then becomes 5. ;)

As you have 1 infantry brigade and 1 1/2 cavalry brigades you could also consider to change the hero for another chariot or marauder infantry.
I would also agree with wmchaos that knights are a little to expensive for 1k points but thats up to you.
-
Keep the knights, but I would dump the hero for something else.
-
Definitely drop the heros for some more units.
-
Just my opinion:
no hero
no knights at 1k points;
take more chariots, and maybe ogres
-
Thanks everyone. Miniatures in hand/My painting whims are dictating the use of Knights for now but they might get dropped if I get other stuff done quickly enough. My new list is:
General
Wizard
3 x marauders
1 Warriors
1 Knights
1 Harpies
2 Hounds
1 Chariots
And a couple of magic trinkets to get me to 1000.
That's one infantry block, a cav block (although the hounds may just skulk at the back working on not dying), and some flying nasties to generally get in the way. Hopefully two command stands can get that lot moving. If the Knights do end up going I guess it'll be in order to buy another chariot unit and something else. Perhaps Ogres as the figures look excellent...

THis was the 1000pts army that I ran for a while until I expanded to larger games.
General 125
Wizord 90
2 Warriors 300
2 maruders 120
2 chariots 190
harpies 65
890pts
Either add some hounds for the fast attack, another unit of chariots to really add some power to your cav or stick in a unit of ogres for some extra infantry power.
The maruders support the warriors and that gives you one badass fighting brigade that will be able to take on anything that can be thrown at you in this scale. The chariots are the cheaper knight alternative which tend to be alot more successful in smaller battles. Just make sure that your harpies can try and delay enemy heavy cav and try and throw down some 'Anger of the Gods' to cause some more command problems. I really found that chaos work alot better when they get to 1500+ points when you can legitimatly take three characters..

Dont you mean Angor of the Gods........ would be seriously disturbing to see a whole unit of harpies doing your Avatar's little dance......

OK, so... WANTED: unpainted chariots! Looks like I'm going to have to accept the reality of the situation here!

I have to say I make that joke pretty much every time I try to cast that spell. Usually twice a turn. I only get groans now.

If the joke dont work anymore, maybe you should try the dance before casting the dice

Oh I am pretty much doing that dance all the time...
