Title: Is there any news on SG activity at GW?
Post by: Ant on April 16, 2009, 10:08:47 AM
Since the GW website was introduced there doesn't seem to have been much in the way of additional support for the SG games. I assume those people responsible for that are working flat out on Space Hulk instead, but is there any news on what we can expect from SG in the future? For example, are we going to see any Rules Reviews again? What about the missing miniatures that haven't made it to the GW site yet (all of the Necromunda hired guns are missing)? Are the Resources sections going to be updated (some articles required to play Necro are missing: Treacherous Conditions, Dead or Alive, Pit Slave Gang and the FAQ)?

I know that I am workign with the Admins here to attempt to at least get the data up here in regards to the articles and game aids.  As for official stuff that is up to Andy et. all as usual.

Hello everybody!
Its good to see some lifesigns from the specialist games section :)
It was quiet for too long.
It would be great if some of the lost minis could return in the shop. I´ve been searching for the Mordheim Witch and the elf-,dwarf- and dog zombie for ages and on ebay they get so incredibly high prices, that it would be a good buisiness to put them back into the online shop.
The specialist games have produced a lot of great minis and games over the years and I hope there will be some lifesigns soon. I heard there will be a new Space Hulk? Will Space Hulk be done by Specialist Games or will GW do it?

Well, by the strict definition of the Big Three, Space Hulk should fall into the Specialist Games category.

It might find itself parcelled as a Warhammer 40,000 product, but I hope it doesn't.  Attention paid to Space Hulk might translate into attention paid by new arrivals to the existing Specialist range.

That they're making a big investment adding a new Specialist Game has got to be good news for the rest of the games.

Oh that's interesting. Will the game aids and FAQ be uploaded to this new SGTW site from now on or are you waiting for Andy Hall to upload them to the GW site? It could be very useful if GW allows you guys to upload that sort of stuff to this site as the articles can be added/updated whenever necessary then (we might even finally get a Necro weapons reference .pdf that isn't littered with errors ;)). Could even reintroduce a new and improved Fanatic Online.

It would be great if some of the lost minis could return in the shop. I´ve been searching for the Mordheim Witch and the elf-,dwarf- and dog zombie for ages and on ebay they get so incredibly high prices, that it would be a good buisiness to put them back into the online shop.

The Necro escher heavy armed with a plasma cannon and the escher leader with the power sword routinely sell for about £20 on eBay. GW would make an absolute mint if they did a limited rerelease of oop minis. I'd certainly make a big order if they allowed you to buy specific minis again just to fill in those annoying holes in my collection.

That they're making a big investment adding a new Specialist Game has got to be good news for the rest of the games.

I suspect the decision to rerelease Space Hulk was perhaps due to financial reasons rather than a firm commitment to SG. ;)

What investment? some cardboard? Look, they already have the new Terminator and Genestealer minis. Heck after that recent game they made with Space Marines and the 'Nids,  they practically can use the  same sprues from that game for Space Hulk, use the orginal rules or just revamp the rules  a bit and maybe even add some other 'Nid and SM choices to improve game play.

i dont see any real huge $$ on thier part other than printing and cardboard and that cant be that much....

There was talk on the old site of GW potentially doing subscriber runs of OOP models.
They announce the models up for release - if 100 people subscribe they get cast (this is an example figure).

Seems like easy money to me when £5.00 (original price) packs of models go for £40.

Second one like this in 7 days.
 >:( >:( >:(

Can anyone actually confirm or deny this old rumour?
I mean someone who actually has contacts in the back office of GW and not someones opinion or what they heard from some kid who 'works' in a GW store.

This was brought up by Rick and Jervis in direct conversation with me, March 2008 (EuroGT XIV) as one of the options the revamped MO could be getting. But at that time I was told to "be patient, little grasshopper", as there where other things in the works with a higher priority.

Well actually new Space Hulk is suppose to be a fully 3d, plastic modular kit. Kinda like the 40k building sets and GW always b*tches about how high are the costs of making plastic moulds. There should also be the rumored electronic timer gizmo with sound effects. I wonder how much would it cost with 10 terminators , 20 genestealers and a fully plastic gameboard. GW learned their lesson with the "assault on black reach" which was such a good deal that people bought like 5 boxes got entire army then sold all they didn't need and ended up earning some money. I think that SH will be realeased sorely for the purpose of promoting 40K and I hope there would be decent rules not just 40k inside corridors. You know like " ok here are the Space hulk rules but you know what? You can always throw them away and play good old 40k on this awesome gaming board we made" :)

As for minis...it's just so sad to not being able to buy some of those awesome miniatures. Gorkamorka muties anyone? (god why, why i haven't forceed that and sold my precious muties :( ) They re-relased some old school chaos for WFB, why couldn't they relase some SG stuff. i still got the catalogues from 80/90 there are sooo many cool miniatures that should be avaiable. Not to mension I don't undearstand why I can't buy Scum and bounty hunters for Necromunda.

I think it will just be plastic floors not fully 3d walls and the timer sounds weird. Somebody on the warseer site said it will be coming out in November.

Actually the "timer" rumour is alive for like since the last SH edition and there's a slight confirmation that the new space hulk will have "batteries  included " label so my guess is we get the clock...or a radio controlled CAT unit, who knows.

Chaos_Rabbit619 ----------

Yea I know :). But even the allmighty ebay can't provide certain minis. Have you checked it for GM muties? They rarely pop-up and when they do It's like one guy for 20Ł. And back when the box was released it was 20Ł for the whole gang. Some minis are more rare some aren't but that's not the point. The question is why GW is forcing me to go fishing on ebay when they have all those casts at their disposal.  And they can't deny that there are rules those, this is their argument for not providing certain models in the online shop. I just don't get it.

The Necro escher heavy armed with a plasma cannon and the escher leader with the power sword routinely sell for about £20 on eBay.

Wow this is getting truly ridiculous now. Some loon on eBay is trying to sell said escher heavy with plasma cannon for £50! (link) (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GW-Necromunda-VERY-RARE-Escher-Heavy-with-Plasma-Gun_W0QQitemZ280341475307QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Toys_Wargames_RL?hash=item280341475307&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A10|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A0|293%3A1|294%3A50) If that thing sells then I'm definitely going to sell my whole collection and buy the Canary Islands with the ludicrous profit that I'd make.

You think at that price they would offer free postage  :o

Wow...not a while ago I almost cut her face off for some spare parts :o I think i leave her alone now :) I guess GW could sell her for 20Ł in the online store and people would still buy her.

On the "if GW released <insert favourite figure here> they'd make a mint because they go for <insert ludicrous price here>" front.

The reason they sell for that on Ebay and elsewhere is precisely because GW don't make them. If they did, I'm pretty sure both prices and levels of interest would drop.

My three ha'porth, for what it's worth,

Mike

Well Mike, your theory can be tested with the space hulk release.
It looks like prices are already coming down on eBay :)

I think the limited number and pre-order thing they are doing for space hulk is a testing of the water.
It has been suggested on this site's predecessor as a way to get the rare models back into production just for a small but fully paid for run.

The Space Hulk is very exciting as it does show they do have plans for stuff, albiet 20 years later but they do.

I really believe if they would do more add ons they can make Space Hulk a very lucrative game for them.

IIRC the big problem with most 'old' games is the card printing, and this is likely why SH is a 'limited run', as they don't want to commit to keeping something with so many card sections in stock. Again IIRC card actually costs more to produce that figures, which might be one of the reasons why GW's latest terrain offerings have all been plastic, as in the long run they might actually be cheaper to produce than card buildings, etc...

Good points, I am just happy to see some "life" with Space Hulk and maybe just maybe other games.
