Just spotted an online advert for some rare WM stuff. The seller is asking a high price but does have some nice stuff including the Storm of Chaos pack. Here's the link:

Perhaps one of you collectors might find it of interest. It's not my stuff by the way.

Anyone know WHO it is ? funny that he mentions staying IN the hobby if/when he gets hands on more rare ?!?
-
I guess no ones gonna buy this for 600$, I mean of his list he has 4 rare blisters but the rest is still available.
-
600$ ??? we are crazy of what?
Well, buying this lot only will make the prizes still raise and raise... As well as warmaster is not a strong game in the sector, people who want make money (especulate) are not helping at all, there are a market of oil, gas, houses, and art out there, do not convert a hobby of toys in a torture.... just my opinion ...
-
just mailed him with a fair offer ;)
I cannot abide profiteering of this nature.
-
Fingers crossed for you Azrael. His $600 is way off track although I've seen some pretty impressive prices for oop WM stuff. As someone who has bought a SoC character pack myself at close to 5 times its original cost I suppose I'm as much to blame as everyone else for the high prices rare WM stuff commands.
Personally the high prices don't bother me so much (though this one is outright daft). What does bother me a little is the thought that I'm bidding against fellow forum members when I try (and always fail) to pick up rare stuff. I can't imagine that there are that many collectors out there who aren't also forum members.

The prices are always what the market will bear. There are only two things that really annoy me about the aftermarket:
1) People who post some ridiculous asking price and then just sit there and wait for months and years with no one buying. It's a waste of everyone's time.
2) Recasters and other fraudulent sellers who take advantage of the high prices on the real thing.
I realize I'll probably never be able to afford the Dragon Princes I want, but if someone has the cash and wants them that bad, well, good for them. A robust aftermarket means that the game is still being played and that people are still growing their line of minis. It's only when most people stop buying and lots start selling that the few who are still buying get the great deals-- but at that point it's a dying game and that would be pretty sad.
At some point, maybe GW will put some rare blisters up on the web store (like the Emp Dragon) or unload some at a convention and we'll all have a laugh about how much we paid when they were rare.

Got to say, I think the games heyday is about 9 years behind us.
My next comment may be controversial, but I will stand by it.
If people want to recast the rare units that GW refuses (for whatever reason) to recast, then I will buy them!
Putting aside my OCD to collect all the rare units for my armies for a minute, the high elf spearmen are not fit for function, these come with broken spears, straight from GW, whilst the swordmasters and phoenix guard are a lot more robust.
I would quite happily replace all my 10 units of spearmen with these alts, just because I know I will not be putting models back in my case at the end of a game with a few more missing spears!!!
Obviously I do not want to purchase, them at £30 a unit for new or recast, but as long as I know what I am buying then, I for one have no problem with it!

Just FWIW, the Kallistra High elf Spearmen are a good deal more robust, and a pretty good proxy.

Not a fan of the kallistra stuff in general.
A bit too tall for my liking. :'(

600 is really a mad price. As said it is some few rare stuff with lots of common units.
It's not clear is the SoC pack is complete or if only the two elves figs are present.
Anyway we saw SoC go for important price this year, but not so high.
Let us know if you could buy it, Azrael.

The SoC are all there in the second picture with Valten on the same strip as the mounted Karl Franz (I think that's who it is). Of all the alt/oop units that pack is definately my favourite, they're superb little figures ready to lead WM armies. I'd have thought that it'd sell really well if re-released but I don't imagine that'll happen any time soon.

Recasting is bad for the hobby in general. Not only is it a crime (IP violation) but it also discourages companies like GW from carrying lines like Warmaster. The reason we see stuff go OOP is lack of demand for a line-- recasting didn't cause that problem but it certainly would contribute to it if it happened more often. It also lowers the quality of the minis out there, since most recasts I have seen (and, no, I've never bought or owned one) have been of extremely poor quality. And recasts are usually fraudulently presented as the real thing-- which hurts buyers and sellers who have no intention of ever going anywhere near a recast.
I sympathize with the situation, since obviously we're all in the same boat with this. I've re-glued my HE spearmen more times than I can count-- I recently bought some steel rods to reinforce the broken spears. My DE Corsairs and Dwarf Rangers constantly break off at the knees. My B5A Elf Cavalry's spears break fairly often too. And that's with a great deal of tender loving care. Plus, I've been aching to own a unit of Dragon Princes for years.
You're right in that the game isn't played nearly as much as it was back in the day. But it does seem to have stabilized thanks I believe to Warmaster Ancients. And frankly, Warmaster players have wrestled with support issues since the game first came out-- I recall my local game store saying that GW was dropping support for the game less than a month after it came out, when all that was out were the High Elf and Undead armies. Yet the game has held on, and frankly has received a lot more support from GW than we could have hoped for (Exhibit A: the marvelous Araby Army, a whole new force that isn't even represented in warhammer).
Losing Kislev, some rare units, and a few sculpts from existing units is a small price to pay for continued support in general from GW. The Copplestone minis only add to the range, and Eureka is actually growing their 10mm fantasy line, so if nothing else we hopefully won't need to pay US$50 or more for bears in the near future. We already have several good High Elf infantry alternatives that are NOT subject to breakage. Add in MM and OG and you have figures and rules for nearly any historical period or fantasy setting, with very few exceptions.
Plus we have a very professional fanzine that isn't hit with cease and desist letters from GW. And a downloadable rulebook that gives us the tools we need to recruit new players. Things aren't all roses in the WM world, but things are ok, and I'd be very angry if a few players took matters into their own hands and ruined things with GW by winking at a recasting market. I realize that's not what you're calling for but somebody has to say this.

I could start a rant about IP violation, but I will save that for another day :)
Off to read the lord of the ri.... oops sorry I meant warhammer 8th edition ;)
-
I must say that I have (in person) not (yet) seen any re°casts that are looking decent enough NOT to fall through
-
Maybe off topic, but I think worth sharing.
I had an acquaintance a few years back (like 10 or so) who recast GW models for his own use. (They looked bad.) He wanted to be an Outrider. So he submitted pictures of his badly painted recast armies, and became an Outrider. I do not know if GW ever found out. If they had, he would have been in a world of hurt.
I always thought it was a rather obnoxious thing to do.
