Hi all readers.
I just wanted to share my Skaven Army with you, which is mostly done. So what happened? Bought them from a friend here who has painted quite much of it. After this I started to paint them myself and tried to keep the spirit and look of the Skaven that I bought. Which means:
- only 4x2 Skaven per Stand (instead of 6x2) .. this is a nice way to keep the army cheap(er) ;) It may not look that good, but I dont have the money (or just dont want to spend that much on miniatures:D) and even not the patience for 6x2 Skaven per Stand
- Basing almost the same
- colours for basing, coat, skin and shields the same
So here are a few pics of the already painted bought part:
(http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/1604/doomwheel.th.jpg) (http://img9.imageshack.us/my.php?image=doomwheel.jpg) (http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/7668/greyseer.th.jpg) (http://img89.imageshack.us/my.php?image=greyseer.jpg) (http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/5756/heroesrln.th.jpg) (http://img11.imageshack.us/my.php?image=heroesrln.jpg) (http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/6561/jezzails.th.jpg) (http://img4.imageshack.us/my.php?image=jezzails.jpg) (http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/8684/plaguemonks.th.jpg) (http://img222.imageshack.us/my.php?image=plaguemonks.jpg) (http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/1079/ratogres.th.jpg) (http://img17.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ratogres.jpg) (http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/4851/warplightningcannon.th.jpg) (http://img11.imageshack.us/my.php?image=warplightningcannon.jpg) (http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/9647/warlockg.th.jpg) (http://img17.imageshack.us/my.php?image=warlockg.jpg)

Always good to see a skaven army.
Very nicely painted and the photos are excellent.

-
very nice painting,
and awsome figures,
-
Too clean for skaven ;)
Again very nicely painted figs.
Are you planning on doing any conversions?
-
Thanks for the comments :)
Conversions? I dont know ... I am not that good with handling green stuff and so. But I always thought to use some "fallen" high elves characters on the skaven "hero" stands. Or maybe I could do a warp lightning in action.
But first of all I should finish some more troops. Cant wait to play full painted 2000 points :)
Greetings
Peter
-
... and again 50pts more painted :)
This time a Warplightning Cannon. Feared from enemies AND Skaven :D
Tried a little bit of OSL this time (see in pic 3, 4) from the warpstone. Poor Crewman, inside of the cannon and the ground are green from the light of this radioactive stone :)
I also wanted to keep the metallics dirty bec. its not a clean steam tank from empire.

Hope you like them.

Going on with Skritt Arquiek ... the most feared Warlock of all ;)
Finished him for our active campaign, hope you like him.

Looks great, the base is incredible, and also the rat head in the banner :).
Another aspect that I like a lot is the photography. Only for curiosity, which camara/setting do you use to take such pics?
I am very interested in your proyect because i do not have skaven range and never seen the figures so close and with all the detail. Very interesting.
-
Thank you for comment :)
I use a quite cheap digital camera from OLYMPUS (FE-200) with 6megapixels. For the pics I place the miniature(s) on white paper which is on the one edge horizontal (the place where the miniature stands) and then I bend (bend - not fold!) it and fix it on e.g. a book. I use 2 lamps ... i dont know the exact enlish words so ill post a pic:
Kind of those lamps: http://www.tme.eu/katalog_pics/0/6/4/064c34aecddd68c3656be721eb3e3912/dl-twin.jpg (bought one for ~25€)
with those "bulps" in them: http://www.tme.eu/katalog_pics/6/5/7/6578e85e51b81d2c6fca329df9be4a30/dl-deluxe_s.jpg
The cam is fixed on this stativ: http://picture.yatego.com/images/4124cde4b859a4.1/00004010abb.jpg (yep EXACT this ;))
I use "makro" settings and am about (dont know exactly) 8-10cm away from the miniature. After taking the pics I equal them with corel photo paint (something like photoshop ... kind of those programms but for free would be Paint.net) and stick them together.
Hope my broken English can help you a bit ;)
Greetings
Peter
-
All is clear Maister, Dont worry for the english, mine is horrible too.
I need some of these white light bulps, I have yellow ones and the pics looks terrible. Then I use daylight, but not always possible makes photos to the figures at that time.
thanks for the information
-
But I've also read a how-to-do topic in another forum. The guy uses normal 60W bulbs (the normal ones) and in front of every of his lamps he put a milky glass (dont know if it is the right word). Here a link: http://www.glastische.de/images/Tisch%20Milchglas.jpg
I didnt try this version but he said it helps a lot and he even made pics which were quite nice.

Niek - Niek. More lightning we need ... more-more powersss. Get the slaves-slaves in here, I want to try this machine on them-them.
(http://img44.imageshack.us/img44/2511/warplightningcannon1mp.th.jpg) (http://img44.imageshack.us/i/warplightningcannon1mp.jpg/) (http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/526/warplightningcannon2mp.th.jpg) (http://img217.imageshack.us/i/warplightningcannon2mp.jpg/) (http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/5719/warplightningcannon3mp.th.jpg) (http://img132.imageshack.us/i/warplightningcannon3mp.jpg/)
Slaves appear, trembling in fear as green and hot lightnings cut the thick air. As the fog from the machine disappeares their dead bodies cover the ground. Skritt Arquiek, leader of the main clan in the underground of Alcyon (http://warmaster.spassbuero.at/) grinned crazy. Good work-work. The horned rat will be pleased. Now quick-quick get this cannon to the others, we will need them in the next few battles-battles.
Without hesitation the technicians rolled the big machine and placed it next to the others.
(http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/6769/warplightningcannons.th.jpg) (http://img200.imageshack.us/i/warplightningcannons.jpg/)
Hope you like them, maybe you want to vote on CMON: http://www.coolminiornot.com/230141

Very nice artillery!
Love your style
-
Thank you :)
Will you see them on EuroGT next year? ;)
-
I would like to see them. But depends on my job, I have no idea of where I can been next year.
I have never been in a EuroGT, and if I can next year I would like to go.
-
Hopefully :)
It's my first time too :D
-
There is two potential problems maintaining the "orginal" EuroGT format.
- we still need to find a party willing to "host" it, meaning to arrange all things local
- we have "lost" our Head-of-Tournament and most of the experienced OPS team
But there is still time .......
-
Well there is no need to use the pre-existing campaign system, something much simpler would suffice, especially as Euro GT's recently have been a largely WM and MH affair. In all honestly really they've become a WH-themed Specialist Games campaign weekend, at least in play-format.
Now, if only we can persuade Ben to book the CS Club for a weekend, I'd be up for helping him organise and run it. No chance of doing it on my own again though, it's just far too stressful...
-
Finished this one today but didn't have any time to post them yet. Here comes another Clanrat unit, another 40pts more on my looong skaven-way ;)
(http://img159.imageshack.us/img159/8503/clanratsviolettmp03.th.jpg) (http://img159.imageshack.us/i/clanratsviolettmp03.jpg/) (http://img165.imageshack.us/img165/361/clanratsviolettmp01.th.jpg) (http://img165.imageshack.us/i/clanratsviolettmp01.jpg/) (http://img165.imageshack.us/img165/1445/clanratsviolettmp02.th.jpg) (http://img165.imageshack.us/i/clanratsviolettmp02.jpg/)

Again another unit comes to you from Skavenblight, main city of my Skaven ;)
(http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/4866/stormvermin2mp.th.jpg) (http://img21.imageshack.us/i/stormvermin2mp.jpg/)
Here, if you want to see them all, it's now an 2000 (1950) pts army:

Thanks for sharing the army shots, they look superb. I'd absolutely love to play against that horde of rats.
-
Impressive!
congratulations for compleate your army! that is a really deed. And the finish is beatiful.
all you need is take some shots in action in your next game and show us how your rats beat their foes ;)
-
I'm curious about what you did with the rat swarms. Do you have a close-up shot?
-
That is one nice army of nasty little rats you've got there...
-
From one skaven fan to another.
That is a very nice army.
-
Thanks for your positive answeres :)
@jchaos: Sorry, but this isn't finished yet ... still some units Stormvermin, Clanrats, Rat Ogres, Jezzails, Rat Swarms, Plague Monks, etc. are missing
@Carrington: Yep, there are close-up shots. I'll add them in the afternoon but it's not much more than drybrushing and some layers on the skin parts.
Greetings Peter

Excellent - good colours and nice and bright whilst retaining that "classic" skaven colours look.
Skaven was always my main army when I used to play WHFB. I have an unpainted 4K army of Skaven for Warmaster but suspect it will be a couple of years before I get round to painting it!!! (Empire to do and then possibly Araby next?)
I will add my voice to the chorus of 'let us know how it plays' - I will be interested to see how an army without access to cavalry or flyers fares!
Dave

I will add my voice to the chorus of 'let us know how it plays' - I will be interested to see how an army without access to cavalry or flyers fares!
It wins when played by a capable player... and in the hands of a good player it can be deadly. Most importantly is that you need to be able to NOT think battlelines, brigades etc
-
Thanks David. I agree with Lex ... my have the advantage, that I've never played another army than the Skaven. So mostly there is 1 brigade (1600pts) or 1 big and a little at 2000pts.
If there is interest, I can write a battle report, supported by pictures sometime.
Greetings Peter
-
I concur.
I have had great success with my skaven force.
The few defeats I have had have been down to really bad dice rolls or General error :D
Not only are these my favourite force fluff wise but also game play wise.
-
well not having cavalry is not too much of a disadvantage for skaven, because they have the numbers and more importantly, they can pursue any type of enemy....
cheers,
-
If there is interest, I can write a battle report, supported by pictures sometime.
Greetings Peter
I would like to read and see that, so interest from this quarter.
.
-
Ok. It will take a bit bec. I'm not playing much. But at least the EuroGT will bring some interesting war-reports ;)
Just to make you a little appetite, here a quite old Thread: Chaos VS Skaven (http://www.sg.tacticalwargames.net/forum/index.php?topic=188.0)
As promised ... after the GT-weekend (13.-14. March)
Greetings Peter
-
Aaaah... Soviet steam roller tactic (aka Bloodbowl 'Da Brick') using terrain to anchor flanks against cavalry? Looks like a good plan as long as naff command rolls don't leave your flank swinging in the open?
Don't misunderstand me I wasn't saying that skaven aren't a good army - just very different from the rest of the armies?
David

Next Unit: Gutter Runners - I like green :D

I love your skaven, I really want to do a skaven army for Warmaster, but I never really liked the game. So I will just have to sneak as many of them as possible into my Epic Nurgle Army.
-
Those small guys are nice :)
-
After a biiiiiiiiiig lack of motivation, I finally found myself painting one of these again. It was quite enjoyable so I guess there will be some more updates on this topic.

Nice to see some good close ups!
I can't belive my bad luck missing two well priced skaven armies on eBay - so this makes me jealous. =-P
-
Glad to see you back at the wheel ;)
-
Thanks to both of you. Gotta keep them coming ... Still so many unpainted ratlings left.
-
Lovely! I've seen Skaven in 28mm that weren't as nice as these!

Hi MPetz, It is a real pleasure to see your last miniature paint. Also a pleasure to read you again.
Never seen this miniature at this close up, I specially love the rat with the mask. great details!
