So ive got all of GW core systems, inquisitor, blood bowl and mordheim
recently i have finished painting everything above and instead of starting a new collection of figures in one of the above
ive decided to start battlefleet after i decided i love the look of the game and the imperial fleet
So i like collecting forces to a points limit, usually an average game length or GT points size
So what would the points be in battlefleet?
-
Average points for a BFG game is 1500. 750 would be low end for maybe an hour game.
-
Depens on playstyle (one opponent takes long and a battle lasts much longer then again another opponent).
1500 is indeed average.
One might fit 750-1000 within the hour.
-
1500pts sounds good and it looks like i could get a good variety of models in there
what would a balanced imperial fleet look like at 1500pts?
-
hehe.. that's a touchy question. I'd read through the manuals and try out some stuff since play styles dictate a good bit of what would be balanced. You'll want some 45-60cm batteries, maybe 8 LB to counteract stuff like eldar and ordnance heavy fleets around 1500 points.
-
sorry im not with the acronyms at the moment, what does LB stand for
-
Creating the perfect balanced Imperial Fleet to take on any foe is a cool task.
In 1500 pts it is a question if you want a battleship and then what type of battleship is chosen.
So start there. IN is diverse. You can go with steamrollers, flankers, pincers, broadsiders, etc.
Eg
Emperor
2x gothic
2x Dominator
is a great core.
Retribution
2x Dictator
2x Lunar
as well
Vaaish his core setup is unique, good and cool as well.
LB = Launch bays.

well i was looking for something like this
but im getting realy confused with wat models you use for the different classes and modelsthat represent them
Emperor Class Battleship - 365
Mars Class Battlecruiser - 270
Lunar Class Cruiser - 180
Gothic Class Cruiser - 180
Sword Class Frigates x 3 - 105
Sword Class Frigates x 3 - 105
Cobra Class Frigates x 3 - 90
Ld 9 Admiral with 1 extra reroll - 125
I also have 60pts to spend :/
whats your advice
-
How do you mean?
You have basic Imperial Navy (IN) cruiser hull.
Then you add weapon modules (the rulebook/pdf is helpful) to determine class.
Eg a Gothic has only lance platforms, the Dominator only weapon batteries and the Lunar a mix.
Battlecruisers add dorsal lances to the basic weaponry.
On your fleet:
Basically a good start.
My tips:
take the leadership 8 fleet admiral. The Emperor will give +1 anyway, enemies on special orders will give another +1. Thus you'll be operating at LD9 or 10 with the Ld8 admiral. The ld9 might be overkill in that regard. Saves you 50pts.
Personally I would either take a Dominator and a Gothic or two Lunars. Not a Lunar mixed with a Gothic or Dominator.
Give the Mars the targetting upgrade.
Give assault boats to Emperor.
-
I meant with the models themselves as they dont seem very variable in representing different kit outs
-
For completeness sake, the setup Horizon refers to me using is as follows:
empy+ab
2x vengeance
2x lunar+nc
2x dauntless (torpedo. was supposed to be lance, but I started using torp ones and never got around to using the lance versions :))
50 point admiral.
1500
I'm not sure I understand your statement about the models not representing the different classes. If you look at the photos in the rulebook, it's pretty clear what weapon module to put in place to represent each class.
-
Do the models come with the different pieces to represent different classes?
-
Yes they do.
As Horizon said the ship kit is made up of the hull and weapons modules, There are Launch Bays, Weapon Batteries and Lance Decks. The pictures in the rule books show you which weapons to put on each ship. You can even magnetise the weapons to swap them around. Battle Cruisers use extra Lance turrets along the dorsal spine of the ship instead of aerials and there is an option of a Nova Cannon on ram for the front of the ship.
-
Ok so what about this?
Oberon class battlecruiser with assault boats 340pts
2 Exorcist class grand cruiser 460pts
2 Lunar class cruisers with Nova cannon 400pts
3 Cobras 90pts
4 Cobras 120pts
admiral
+1 reroll
-
I replied on Warseer.
-
Have you looked at the rule books or fleet lists? I ask because your fleet is, as mentioned, rather illegal.
-
My deepest apologies, i realised my mistake once i had left the computer for the night. I must have got confused between my pdfs anyway i have rectified it heres my new fleet
Fleet admiral
1 re roll
Emperor with assault boats 370pts
2 Dictators 440pts
2 Lunars w/nova cannon 400pts
3 Cobras 90pts
3 Firestorms 120pts
exactly 1495pts what do you think?
also how many furys/bombers/assault boats on a base is classed as a squadron?
-
I think it's a fairly ordnance heavy IN fleet. Not a bad thing. I'd swap out the firestorms for swords since I think you will get better performance from 3 swords than 3 firestorms.
As far as how many models make an AC squadron, as long as it's recognizable as what it is then as many models as you want. (you could even write "bomber" on it and that would be good) The print out chits have 5 for fighters, 3 for bombers, and 4 for assault boats.
-
The list is indeed ordnance heavy. Lets see :
16 attack craft
18 torpedoes (max.5 markers).
Dunno, I would change a Dictator to a gunship. Or 2 Dauntless to fly along the Firestorms (6+3 flexible lances).
-
what gunship would you advice?
