Okay, your theories on how the new book will screw up all our work..
I am thinking Nova-Cannon escorts!
-
I figure that it will leave the current SM and IN lists badly out of balance. I anticipate character ships that are overpowered for their prices. Possibly some new cruiser or SC pattern not previously seen. And a new battlebarge that somehow will make the original SO look positively balanced.
I also think we might see an old space fleet ship or two make a return. And we might see fluff re SM and lances get shaken up, since that's the direction that most of the non-BFG fluff has been heading. We may see Chaos strike cruisers and battlebarges, as well as marks of chaos for space marine ships that have fallen.
Another likely list would be the fleet of the Tyrant, which would be a hybrid such as Armageddon.
We might also see chapter specific BFG lists for some chapters, such as Minotaurs, that specialize in anti-ship operations.
I also anticipate some sort of strange new weapons.
-
And bombardment cannon escorts with special rules that let them kill any ship with a single blow!

I wouldn't be surprised if they made bombardment cannon escorts, and gave them str3 lfr bombards. Even ones based on boarding or somesuch.
Although it is forgeworld so the chances of it being something absurd is pretty high, as well as the chances of it being very unbalanced in one way or another.

How about this? "Movie Marine Ships"
Escorts now have six hits, strength twenty 60cm lances that hit on 2+, five shields, 7+ armor(thats right... 7+, you need to roll a 7 on a d6 to cause damage!) and a 2+ save against all damage. They also have a +6 to boarding actions (so they can never fail)
Hit and run attacks are FULL critical hits, +6 to the dice roll.
-
Ah, glad someone remembers the movie marine rules from WD :D
I never got around to playing a game against em, I always wanted to play an apoc battle :)
-
Here is how to kill movie marines. Jump over the table and shank your opponent with a sharpened measuring stick.
-
I never really had a problem with movie marines. I just figured one leman russ for each of them with my AC list.
-
IA10, it'll be so big of a mess even wikileaks will have a file on them. mhwuaua.
-
Just out of curiosity and poking my nose into something that might stink...... but
if all your regular opponents are sensible players that care about the game and will defer to the 2010 FAQ and the community rulesset, then how will IA10 screw up the game ??
I would just consider it an option to aquire more models (albeit probably VERY expensive ones, knowing FW)
-
I think this is probably all unfounded hysteria, so I've mostly been ignoring it.

You haven't heard my regular opponents views on the 2010 FAQ yet. Some blister paint. ;)
That said, I think that the FW thing is overblown. If you believe the hype, you'd think that they made escorts that transform into giant robot Bayonetta's with a planetkiller beam in each hand and one in each foot.
As I said before, we're likely to see some non-FAQ SC variants and some character ships, with maybe a new escort or two.
-
Fund that escort, Baron.. fund it now...
-
It can be difficult to gauge the tone of internet messages sometimes. So I apologise if I have misunderstood
All this does sound reminiscent of the sort of frenetic posting you get on that other GW website whineseer.com though

Why, you want poledancing ships in BFG? I have the Falchion and the Iconoclast. They're so awesome they give each other tongue baths on stage.
-
Unless FW intend to release a brand new set of BFG-minis along with IA10 I seriously doubt it will contain anything else than some fluff/FOC or possibly a scenario. After all it's only 3 pages we are talking about.

Since they have been talking about how BFG is profitable to them, I would not be surprised if they did release a few new minis.

Wrong!
The FW strike cruiser is cheaper then the GW strike cruiser.
The FW Tau fleet is MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH cheaper then the GW Tau fleet.
-
And looks nicer too, despite having to file off all that GK iconography.
-
ive had excellent results ditching the I bridge and sticking on a spare chaos cruiser one. apart from that is the book with sword through it, which i think is generic enough that you can get away with it.
the escorts are still quite pricey though.
im expecting mostly scenarios, with possibly a fleet list and an SC variant.
-
New ships are awesome. Don't get me wrong.
Space marine fanwank? nothing is awesome about that. period.
-
Yeah... 12 pounds for GW strike cruiser vs 6 for FW strike cruiser. The escorts are 1.50 more though, but I like them a lot more. Too bad they have not made a FW battle barge, I'd get some of those. The strike cruiser is one of the few cases where it's less expensive. And I suppose the money you save on those can make up for shipping and some extra stuff like thunderhawk models.
