The local manager of the Chicago Battle Bunker wants to throw down with his entire Necron fleet, which, when decked out is 4820 points. I am building an Imperial navy fleet to match him (as it is the biggest fleet I have)
This is what I have so far
1 Apocalypse Battleship LD 9 commander
1 Oberon Battleship
2 Lunar cruisers
2 Gothic Cruisers
2 Dictator Cruisers
2 Tyrant cruisers (with wb range increases)
3 Endeavors 6+armor w/ram spikes
3 Endurances
3 Defiants
4 Armageddon Battlecruisers
4820 points.
I have only Falchion escorts, but i have plenty of all of the cruisers (at least 2), What do you guys think?

Maybe replace the defiants with your falchions? I really can't see them contributing much but I guess it's possible.
-
Long range lances is what you need, use other vessel to draw fire away from your lance ships. Necrons don't have shields so lances will make him consider a BFI almost as soon as he is below starting HP's on a ship.
-
I know how to play against necrons, I am just trying to figure out what are the best ships to use.
I am bringing the Defiants because A. They are cheap light cruisers and B. They have two lances, necessary against necrons.
-
I would add in some Falchions. Deploy them at the back of the fleet. Use them as interceptors of fast moving Dirges/Jackals.
The new Apocalypse will come in handy! Oberon will also lend great support.
I would drop a Defiant for Falcions.
a) you have enough ordnance to give the Necrons some thoughts....
b) the Defiant is still easy vps (if I was Necron I would use the odd shots to take them out).
Do you have squadrons in mind or will this be ld dependant?
Having a defiant per Dictator as screens would be funny.
-
I am keeping the defiants because i want to see how they roll with the new rules.
All lunars, tryants, gothics, and dictators will be squadroned in pairs of 2 with their twin. light cruisers will be squadroned together with their twins as well.
I am expecting the apoc and oberon to die quickly, as they are the biggest targets. I hate to say it, but falchions are ill suited for this battle, but I lack firestorms at this point (something i fully intend to mend in the near future)
I will take them though, probably swap out an armageddon or a tyrant for them.
-
IIRC they aren't actually getting anything outside of a 10 point drop and 1 per 500 points limit. Soo... they should perform just as they always have. Not very well.
-
Falchions are a good escort .... except against Necrons. Either Firestorms or Swords would be better. Torps provide +1 dice against armour, but have to go through turrets and the Necron save. The +1 WB dice of the Swords will usually give +1 dice too, but won't have to get through turrets. Since there's no defensive bonus to taking the torps in this case, I'd proxy them as Swords.

just for curiosity, how many tombships will you face?
Also, do you want to do an all around fleet or a fleet that is made only for fighting necrons?
How many point do you have with Diasporex without upgrades?
-
I did a 4000 point battle once.... Ork vs. SM planet strike.... (sm attacker)
It took about 7 hours... and I don't even know why (maybe because I hadn't played in a while at the time). It ended with a single strike cruiser making it to the planet, and winning it for the marines. However everything else in the marine fleet was exploded and there were 2 kroozers and several escorts floating around trying to chase (yes.. 1 strike cruiser got a ton of APs before the kroozers could turn and catch up)

Can I suggest not squadroning the cruisers with their twin in some cases. Such as your dictators, because if you do you are putting all your eggs in one basket, if the squadron is targeted, you'll lose all your ordnance (due to BFI, etc). More ordnance would be handy as well.
Also, why not take a dominator or two? Got to love those wb's!
As for the falchions, they won't be brilliant, so if you can, beg, borrow or steal some swords!
-
if it were me, i might mix the lunars in with the gothics. spread the lance power out a bit, and use the lunars as a shield for the gothics. maybe put the dictators in with another ship or two as flak. maybe the defiants?
-
I'm thinking Gothics would be golden here. I dont see them much, but against crons they should work out well.
-
You should squadron the Defiants with the Dictators, with one dictator and 2 or 3 defiants. By themselves, 2AC isn't really worth reloading, but 6-8 AC from a squadron is definitely worth it.

When's this throwdown happening again Rob? I think I want to be there to heckle.
