Title: Mordheim and new editions.
Post by: Ale on June 03, 2009, 03:27:37 PM
Why do you think that GW hasn't made new editions of the game? I'm talking about new miniatures, rules, and more...

Bye.

You're asking why they haven't made new editions back when they supported Specialist games or why they don't make anything nowdays? Becouse as for part two of the question they stopped supporting specialist games and concentrated on their core games, that means no new rules, no new miniatures no nothing.

Yeah, It's some financial thing, same reason for the price raises on all the WHFB stuff.

A new edition of Mordheim would require them to activate lots of resources which would not be profitable considering the few miniatures this would sell them.

There's a really neat article about the demise of specialist games here:  http://www.stephane.info/show.php?code=specialist_games It really answers most of the questions. And since it's not official GW forum anymore we can talk GW policy here...I guess :-X

I wouldn't go that far on talking about GW policies as this site is sanctioned by GW. Let's not get into blaming GW for this and for that. We all have our concerns but unfortunately or fortunately we keep buying their products or playing their games. ;D

Most SG games except for Bloodbowl are not completely supported by GW for whatever reasons. If you really love the game it can be played without much info from GW.

We will be finalizing an FAQ we started last year but besides that Warhammer comes out with so many cool models you really don't neet Mordheim specific.

The other question to ask is what rules have you access up to Ale? If you've not had access to Fanatic Magazines, track them down via ebay so as you have access to a wealth of other material. Tom's Boring Mordheim Forum has a whole heap of stuff that Da Bank here has linked to so contact him also.

That said, it gets down to the financial side of things and the fact that GW's a company needs to survive. As such they invest into products that will sell more mini's and it has been stated repeatedly that the company aims to sell miniatures over developing rules further et al. As Bank says, Mordheim, due to its fantasy setting, in its own way has new models released every month as WHFB is the overall setting the game is based in and all the models and rules come from that setting. Alo of the collectors range of miniatures whilst not specifically Mordheim aren't specifically WHFB either but suit use in Mordheim better.

Rules wise, a variety of sources online independent of GW develop expansions for the game but as a whole, the game works relatively well as it stands, a few FAQ issues aside.

Cheers,

Ram.
