Plastics will stay as is but the metal models are being recalled and to be recast in resin?

The GW games i play are predominantly metal: Warmaster, BFG, and LotR. I have an all metal SoB and Khand army already.
I wonder if these game systems will switch as well.
-
Or it is the closure of Warmaster, BFG & LotR (sbg).
:(
I do not think BFG / WM is high on the to do list for GW to be recast.
-
It was bound to happen sooner or later (specialist games ending I mean).
Might be the last chance to stock up and finish off those armies!

They've just announced a "Finecast" line but more details will hit next week and they go on sale at the end of the month and what has shown up in the lists to the stockists has the prices go up.
-
didn't see and SG models listed, did you?
-
This looks to be more along the lines of the warhammer forge that keeps getting mentioned.
I can't see any reference to any Specialist Games?
-
Nein mann.
Warhammer Forge is to Warhammer Fantasy as what Forgeworld is to 40k.
GW now introduces a finecast line. Own resin productions.
Very expensive. Various 40k/fantasy mini's.
Doh.

No, these are definitely ex-metal models now being cast in resin instead. A different type of resin to that used by Forgeworld apparently.

No, no you can't, can you ...
IMHO, Specialist Games will be quietly dropped sometime in the near future :(

LOL
Isn't this the case already.
The whole arm of the company has been quietly wound down for as long as I have been involved (6 years) in it.
If you have a particular yearning for a certain army/game then buy sooner rather than later :)
-
I have heard from a friend and manager, who I specifically asked, what is happening with SG? He told me that they would remain, in metal. I trust him but am wondering why they would still use metal.

Prices are going up in the switch-over as well. Example: BT Emperor's Champion in metal is £8.20, in the new super-duper resin he'll cost you £9.50.
Just something to keep in mind if SG are moved to the new material.

Just bought some Araby and a few Eldar Super Heavies.

I've just bought about 30 blisters of Warmaster stuff to finish off my various armies
(can't afford to get a full VC army as well, the only army I don't have have and want)
I asked the order guy what was happening to SG re the switch and he was pretty cagey and non commital however the interesting (alarming?) bit of what he did say was " SG only sell a tiny fraction of what the big games sell and they only do about 1 big casting of them a year. I wouldn't worry about them running out of warmaster for a long time yet."
To me this implies that they have the stock ready for what they would normally sell in a year but when its gone - no more?
i.e. no need to panic buy now but in 6 months?....

Ditto!
That said I am trying to get the funds to buy an araby force ;)
-
A fellow posts to the taccoms forum that SM landspeeders are out of stock right now.
-
I was told that the Specialist Games moulds will be replaced and things will be made in resin, but not until their current moulds for metal wear out- so it may not happen for quite a while.
I heard this from a GW store manager, so take with the appropriately lethal dose of salt...
Having seen the resin models, I'm not particularly looking forward to WM scale resin models (bubbles, huge amounts of flash, easily broken pieces and warping/ models splitting).
-
Finecast indeed :)
-
urgh,
I have seen pictures of finecast models bought by people.
Flash, moldlines, airbubbles! Horrible things.
-
Flash, moldlines, airbubbles!
I saw some in person at my local game store yesterday, and besides being 28mm (ugh - who cares?) I saw all these things as well.
-
Received my Skaven and Araby units from the fulfillment center in Tennessee. Mix of blue warmaster blisters and the white generic Citadel blisters, but otherwise nothing amiss.
-
Yup.
I received my Araby, Chaos, Empire and Orc and Goblin Warmaster blisters fine too.
I don't think it is going to be an issue until GW stock starts to run low. When (if) this is going to happen is anybody's guess - expect panic buying after the first two or three of posts of "Can't get hold of X anymore."

I would also note that after a month and a halfs delay I got my:
Demons, Bretonnia, Chaos and O&G Order in.
-
I ordered a full Empire army about a month ago - just in case and there are fair few miscasts and the quality of the castings isn't as good as it used to be. GWs quality control has gone downhill recently. I also think these molds are on their last legs.
From what I've heard Specialist games will continue to be metal minis and there are no plans to convert them to Finecast (hate that name). The warhammer and 40K metal minis that have been recalled will be melted down and the metal used for Specialist games stuff. Now whether they replace end of life molds or not is another question for another day.
-
yeah, the old molds may be why there is no plan to switch to finecast for SG
