Looks like its actually happening a re-release of Man O War has been rumoured for the Septemeber secret release for a few weeks now but Harry on Warseer (he's a very reliable source) has given a very strong hint that it is. The project has been code named Rubber Duck within GW.
From Harry on Warseer:
When I first heard about this ... several year ago and what I hinted at in The Watchman back then was that they were looking into Naval combat in WARMASTER scale. I also heard that Rick Priestly was interested and if he had his way we would see naval battles for Warmaster historical before we saw it for fantasy. It was all just pie in the sky back then and as a result .....
... I had forgotten about this.
So when this rumour cropped again I failed to put two and two together initially.
But I have put it together now and I only have one thing to say .....
BRING IT ON!
In other rumours
Man O War in September.
Big box, Space Hulk format £70
Two fleets only, Empire and Vampires
All plastic models including islands
Written by Phil Kelly and Jervis
No other expansions or fleets, complete game in a box
These are all just rumour for now but it's been a looooong time since we had any rumours for Warmaster.
-
Yeah it's happening, i've known about this since '09 :D
There's a good looking dark elf ship coming out, good scale for warmaster. Hence my DE WM army ;D (i won't say anything else though)
-
Looks like we have conflicting rumours here.
Empire and Vampire Fleets only in a box? Single box, big splash?
Someone else thinks Dark Elves too? (which suggests supplements or at least a third fleet?)
I do hope they are the right scale for Warmaster!!!!

So it is not blood bowl that is being relaunched then?
A lot of evidence did seem to point in that direction also.
Not bothered either way, I will buy it if is either of these :)

Id prefer BB though :>
-
Sure it is not bfg?
-
As an aside I play the cyanide BB game, add me a friend, same user name as here :)
-
the cianide BB game? that isnt the fumbbl one right? its the GW supported one, right?
-
Why vampire counts? Sylvania is landlocked.
I enjoyed MoW, but it had some pretty big problems. Quite aside from balancing the fleets, you needed more room for your ship templates than you did for the playing area :o

Thanks for the info Calmacil. Care to share anymore info as I'm hearing conflicting things now that it's not Man O War as such but a naval based game in 10mm. Dark Elves makes much more sense than VC.
Yeah a lot of people thought it was going to be BloodBowl as its the 25th anniversary guess that's for further down the line.

I've already said too much.
I think it's best left to GW to decide when to release the info ;)
-
As a Man O'War player, I would just LOVE to have this game in an approx Warmaster scale...
-
There's the Vampire Coast in Lustria- pirate vampires are not new to fantasy, although they do seem an odd choice for a 2-fleets only release.
-
Hmm... I suspect September may be a mismatch, considering White Dwarf confirms second part of Sisters of Battle codex and Ogres coming in September.
But given there's been some pretty reliable rumour mongers going on about a secret release, maybe October or November then? All I know is I'll be interested to see what happens :).
-
10mm sailing ships would be huge... MoW stuff is around 2mm, I'd be very surprised if they did them in something 5x as big.
-
They are huge
-
And GW dont know there is MoW anymore, so there is no incentive from their end to stick to that particular scale
IF the rumours are true, then the games would be more likely be based on something akin to PotC then be true to the MoW/Warmaster background ....
-
I really hope it will be a naval 10 mm game.
The old empire ship for warmaster from forgeworld is really great. Several ships like this would just be awesome !
-
Calmacil - when you say they are "huge" do you mean you will be able to actually place warmaster stands on the decking of the ships to represent crew or "marines"???
I have an old Man O War Black Arc skull and a brigade of Warmaster Corsairs so I was thinking of making my own Black Arc using styrophone and cladding it in balsawood. I was going to make it big enough to hold 4 warmaster units on its decks. I might hold off this project if there are going to be ships big enough to mount warmaster stands in commercially available!
It's August now and there's no mention of a new shiny game/range in White Dwarf so it looks unlikely that it will be a September release?

Not got a clue when it's out. I've not read anything on any forums, it's probably on warseer, it usually is.
It's already been boxed up and is all ready to go. I haven't spoken about this game for a long time, so can't help you with release date.

That said you cannot get many empire stands on the warmaster empire ship ;)
-
I am going to use uncharted seas models with my warmaster. Close enough scale wise.
-
If they are boxed up and ready to go then my best guess would be a November release, ready for Christmas.
It doesn't really matter - we're not small children, we can wait.....
Or just buy other manufacturers ranges like Fracas suggested!

I'm just having a hard time believing this.
Not that I doubt you guys, but all the recent boxed games have been aimed at pushing GW's 28mm line. Warmaster's biggest champion has left the company. Releasing a boxed game will generate calls to expand the line (at very least, to add more fleets). Where's the upside for GW in this? It just doesn't seem to make sense, except to counter the fervor for Uncharted Seas, which doesn't compete w/ GW and has levelled of a bit in any event.
Anyway, I hope I'm wrong, and I'll be first in line to buy new models if they come out, but I'm a little skeptical about the whole thing.
-
Makes more sense to release BFG as 2.0 given all the recent work
-
In fact, thinking about it now, it makes much more sense if they're releasing a 28mm ship (or pair of ships grappled) as a terrain piece. Then they could have a boxed game that expands and uses their main minis line-- much like Space Hulk did for 40k.
Sorry to burst people's bubbles, and this is totally a guess on my part, but it fits better w/ GW's strategy than a 10mm naval game.
-
With GW's current trend for large models and terrain pieces I can definitely see 28mm ships and rules rather than 10mm scales

It's not out and I'm already a bit dissapointed based on what I've heard so far?
ONE ship of each race in the box??? (4 ships in the box?)
Limited release with minimal, if none at all post "big box" support?
It's not Man O War Fleet naval warfare with multiple ships, its one on one ship action?
Ships are roughly the same scale as Uncharted Seas, or only slightly larger - i.e. not compatible with Warmaster minis?
Meh!
Dave
-
It's impossible to be sure...
Rumors says there will be more or less 4 ships.
Scale seem to be Warmaster one, 10 mm.
No further releases for this game, this seem to be agreed by everybody. Like the Space Hulk edition two years ago.
-
The factions chosen seem similar to the ones you can get for Uncharted Seas (Elves, Vampires, Orcs, Empire). Interesting development!
The "no supplements" thing is par for the course, so I hope the box set has a good variety.
-
Sigh, again GW misses a trick by effectively letting their competition slip into cracks in their own Hobby line.
-
They are huge
My mistake. Those i saw were 3-up's :( Not warmaster scale, it's much smaller scale
