Title: dreadfleet
Post by: rcdenny on September 19, 2011, 01:12:40 AM
so...will i be bummed that i didnt buy 10 of these to resell on ebay like spacehulk? however, i actually wanted a copy of spacehulk, so it's a different typy of dissapointment as i'm now bitter at the price i'd have to pay to get one, or at least all the pieces to one..anyway; dreadfleet: cool game or will it end up in the same box as the thousands of wizkids pirate ships i have?

Great models, briljant concept..... (but obvisously not a new one) and a real pity that it is NOT in Warmaster scale. that would have been a blast !!

I have been on the fence on this game, but a lack of funds and space at this point has decided it for me.... just. The concept sounds good, and the miniatures are really great. However, aside from fantasy naval now being my thing exactly, it seems that the game has fallen into the common trap of every unit being 'special' in some way. The fleets also seem a little unfocussed, as I would want to pick a race and go with it, instead of a side consisting of a number of races. That said, the sea mat looks incredible and it looks like it is actually a £70 game, rather than a £50 game for sale at £70. I will pass on it, and I dont buy these things for resale.

Yeah, the miniatures (plastic) and all including the map are incredibly good.

This game is really a boxed game like FFG releases for example.

I think (although I may be wrong) that each ship is more like a special character than a typical representative of their species/race. Think of it like the Dirty Dozen or two teams of superheroes clashing.

I actually think it looks quite good value for money. I particularly like the sea mat.

I'm thinking of getting one just for the mat and the terrain. If I don't rate the game I can always get my money back (probably) by selling off the ships as individuals.

I think I would be tempted to get it if I had one or more basic MoW fleets.......

Each of the individual ships in the box would make a nice "flagship"  for a fleet, and my gut feeling is it wont be too hard to mash the two .....

but ...

has anyone been able to do a scalecomparison yet ??

If the dice are standart GW dice then you can guess how big they are. Definetly too small for Warmaster but I think alittle to large for Man o War but I havent seen alot of MoW Ships in real life.

While the ships look great (very tempting), I think its going to be to much money for me without knowing the ruleset. Maybe Ill pick up some single ships on ebay when its out.

If its anything like we saw with Space Hulk - and I strongly suspect that it will be - the ships and sea mat will be expensive on the secondary market. With Space Hulk, the miniatures were expensive, with a full set getting more than the cost of game initially. That said, I may pick up a set of rules from eBay, as these will be cheaper.

I think mostly because they are useable for 40k which increases intrest enormously. I dont think its going to be that bad with the ships but we will see.

I like Naval games, but I think I will pass on this.  I'm not that interested in a board game, GW or not. I like the matt, but I can give or take the ships.  The Skull islands are too much for me.  Your results may vary.

However, I'm really glad Games Workshop are actually try to make a new game.  I mean if your name has Game in it... right?

Actually that turn sounded suspiciously like a Superhero game I just to play with the Spawns when they where younger.....

Not being a naval player myself, how do these scale with Man o War and Uncharted Seas minis? Might they see action as cinematic flagships? Or are they too big for that?

On its own, the box set seems too specialized to be anything but itself. You couldn't just go ahead and build a naval game from it, the way you might do with BoFA or Space Hulk.

I've been tempted, but in the end I find the miniatures a bit too over the top and I suspect there will be too much randomness in the rules for me to stomach.

The Dwarf ship is quite in scale with MOW to be an "Admiral" class ship. Looks like a good hybrid battlecruiser/aircraft carrier which is the sort of bizarre abortion GW and the Russians love.

I don't have any other MOW fleets for comparisons.
