Well, the chaos fleet I thought my friend had sold is in fact still in his possession and is his main fleet. So in the interest of diversity I have decided to throw together an Imperial torpedo mania fleet. I don't have the slightest clue if this is viable but I am sure the good people of this forum can set me to rights. Thanks in advance, cheers.
Fleet-Admiral w/ reroll- 75
Emperor-365
Mars-270
Dictator-220
Dictator-220
Dictator-220
Dictator-220
Dictator-220
3 Cobra-90
3 Cobra-90
Total-1990
Also my principal opponents will be chaos and eldar, not sure as to the composition of said fleets. If there are any do's and don'ts of facing off against these two races I would be very interested to know them. Thanks once again.

And that is so daft... Why on the &7171 would you want to play with that?
It will be viable due abusive AC/torp spam. But fun? Nope.
I'd also advice to start at a lower point level, eg ~1500points.
You have 32 AC and 11 torpedo markers.
A Chaos fleet with Despoiler + 6 Devestations would have same amount of AC and 460pts left to spend.
A Tau fleet could field 4 Explorers for 920pts and have 32AC.
So IN is an expensive AC fleet.
I will advice more diversity & gunnery.
If you like AC keep this:
Emperor
Mars
2x Dictator
still 20 AC.
Add:
3 Cobra
6 Swords
Dominator
Gothic
Lunar

Wow umm interesting take on imps. Try starting with a 500 pt list first tho then 1000 then 1500 etc. It will help us help you and give you an idea of what ships to look for. Starting at 2k give you a lot of options but if you build that list your going to regret it when you have to pick a 500 pt list from it :D.

If someone playing me turned up with Emperor, Mars and 5 Dictators....
The polite version is would wait until they have moved their ships & counters for first turn, then shake them by hand and congratulate them on their win, and look for another game.

Or laugh when he rolled all 1's on leadership :)
Naw, I'd play it. Other fleets can ordnance spam better, so why not?

I agree.
This list is a bit boring, but not too strong and can be beaten even without a specific "counter-list".
At all it is based on most expensive imperial cruiser.

Alright, I guess you can have too much of a good thing. I have revamped the list and it has more diversity now.
Fleet-Admiral w/ reroll-75
Emperor-365
Dictator-220
Dictator-220
Dictator-220
6 Cobras-180
2 Lunar-360
Dauntless(lance)-110
Dauntless(lance)-110
Dauntless(lance)-110
Total-1970
This list still has a lot of torpedos but I don't think it is overkill(let me know). I like the dauntless light cruisers it seems like their speed and manuverabilty will come in handy in many situations. As for starting at 2000pts, I won't be. I am just trying to get a finished list and then I will start playing games as I get the pieces, I probably should've mentioned that. The first games will most likely be at 1000pts and go up from there. Well thats the list for now, let me know what you think. :)

As an addendum, I have 6 Sword class escorts that were a gift from a few years back. Would it be a good idea to replace the 6 Cobras with the 6 Swords? That would bring the point cost up to an even 2000pts if I am not mistaken. Just a thought, let me know what you think.

I would go with the swords if you have the points. That leaves you with an Imperial fleet that has an unusually strong amount of AC, enough to effectively minimize the Tau and Chaos AC spam lists, and still pack enough torps and big guns to be a direct threat. Looks decently competative to me, for sure.

Ordnance is not overpowering like it was when 1.0 came out. The key would be to remove the torp markers and fire on the attack craft waves until you can let lose on the ships themselves. My buddy playes a very heavy ordnance chaos fleet and we tend to split on win/loss against my all comers IN.
