Hi there!
I thought I should say hello, I'm a regular over on warseer and tactical command, and as well as the small scale sci-fi stuff, I also have a love of the 10mm Fantasy bits too
I started with GW games back in the early 90's, I played a lot of epic back then (before the days of LOTR and warmaster) as well as the other core GW games.
After my epic playing friends moved on, I got heavily into WFB, and played that regularly between 3rd and 8th edition, recently my love of epic scale has been rekindled and I've been building up multiple epic forces to attempt to entice my current opponents into the game
I've been finding it harder and harder to enjoy the convoluted GW rule systems, but other systems (kings of war springs to mind) while great, don't have the same warhammer feeling, and I certainly miss it. I think that's why the specialist games rulesets appeal to me so much now, great tactical complexity with streamlined rulesets is the order of the day!
One guy on taccomms has been painting up a WM High Elf army and it's inspired me to get involved with the micro-warhammer guys as well, I've collected almost every WFB army, but I've now settled on Skaven and Dark elves, I'm keen to reproduce those armies in miniature, as well as pick up some of the WFB armies I never got a chance to collect (Bretonnians and Vampires mainly)
Can anyone give me any tips on where to start? how much is my already anaemic bank balance going to suffer?
looking forward to getting involved with the community here!

Hi Simon, and welcome
Whereas the variation of troop-types in Warmaster is not as large as in WHFB the choices of Skaven and Darkelves will allow you to MODEL almost all of their WHFB counterparts, as long as you use them rules-wise as one of the army selector units, potentially giving it a little twist with a magic item or (if your opponents are OK with that) using extra abilities.
The PITW (pain in the wallet) factor of Warmaster will largely be dictated by the size of army you want to field, starting at between 1500 and 2000 points makes for decent games, but with a Horde style army like the skaven could mean anything between 16 and 24-or-so units on the table......
As with all newcomers here, we like to point out that eg. on the Warmuster there are highly usable counter sheets that will allow you to play around with the game/rules/armyselector for a bit, gettin a feel for the army before investing in lead.

Hi Simon,
I think we've spoke briefly on warseer, did you write that massive mutliplayer WFB game? if so, that was brilliant ;D By the sounds of it you're similar to me, you like big armies sweeping across the board with lots of players.
As Lex says, i think it will cost you more if you go for skaven. Go dark elves! That's the painting project i've just finished, so i'm a bit biased.
Dark elves are similar to their equivalent WFB armies, they are elite and cost alot of points. For faster painting i highly recommend badab black wash, i didn't do any shading or highlighting.

thanks for the warm welcome guys, I'm planning on having a thorough read through the site to get myself as familiar as possible with WM
if the large batrep you were referring to is this one: http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=156929 then yes I wrote it! glad to see you enjoyed it, there was a year and a half between me starting the report and finishing it....
