Title: Sould Stealer..... a dark elf spell
Post by: calmacil on February 09, 2012, 01:40:29 PM
I just read something on the net that suggests i've been doing this spell wrong, so i'd thought i'd just check. It's great if i am wrong, because the way they're doing the spell is alot better than my way  :)

Soul Stealer says..."the target unit takes three attacks worked out in the usual way. Targets get no armour saving throws"

I assumed "worked out in the usual way" means i roll 3 dice, and any 4+ are hits.

The post i just read suggested those 3 hits are automatic (eg. you don't need to roll)

Which is the correct way please?

Automatic hits with no AST ---> automatic wounds = standkiller

Roll attacks, hit on 4+ (whatever the defensive status of the unit), als wounds scored count.

And as things are not strictly worded otherwise, driveback as usual.

Thanks Lex.
Yes does sound too good the way he did it. Ah well  :P

It's range touching. So if any damage is caused those hits will add to the total combat result.

Uhhhh   does it say so in the spell description ??

Spellcasting is done as part of the "missile"  phase and normaly applied as such, so unless the spell description specificly states this differently........  very nice to get rid of nasty supportlines !!

Yes it says it adds to combat in the spell description.

I was thinking it would be a nasty spell for a sorceress on a manticore joining the combat.  8)

Roll attacks, hit on 4+ (whatever the defensive status of the unit)...

I've been waiting for this discussion for quite some time. Where it is written that "usual way" in case of spells is "unusual" and there is no terrain modifiers for rolling "to hit". I would be grateful for help as it seems we've been playing wrong for a long time  ;).
My intuition is on Lex' statement side, but I couldn't find it in the rules, so I assume it is 5+ in case of defended and 6+ in case of fortified i.e. usual way is just usual.

Getlord,  I agree with you. Lex simply showed a common situation, ie in the open. We all can imagine how most of magic lightnings strike the stone walls instead of enemy soldiers behind.
