Hello!
I like to draw but I'm in a huge rut and having trouble sketching things. One of these days I will grasp the nettle and really get to grips drawing digitally again, until then, I usually like to sketch in pencil and scan things I draw - I can get quite a good turnaround if I get inspired. I'm hoping to maybe get some suggestions based on peoples' fan publication output which might inspire me. :-X
I'm wondering - I seem to see dozens of half hearted attempts to make new codexes or army lists for all sorts of GW stuff - but only a few well made things. Do people who edit fanlists or who try to put out professional looking 'zines to download actively seek out artists? There must be so many talented artists drawing warhammer universe stuff - but I rarely see people emulating the "border doodles" we had in the Epic 40K or Warmaster rulebooks in fan publications.
I'm not promising to be a good artist - but knowing that what you are drawing will make someone's day can be really inspiring! Trying to doodle necrophynxes / a Warmaster - manual style Undead army line at the moment.
So, any editor care to advise for the kind of thing they want?
(Attached is a picture of a Wolf Lord with jump pack that I am pretty proud of for a doodle)

Personally, adding artwork to any rules I put together comes way down the list of priorities, as the rules are the most important element of the design. If they are not right, then you're in a lot of trouble; whereas art work is just a bonus.
The PDF documents I've seen tend to want photos rather than artistic photos, but have a look round a variety of specialist games forums, as these are the most likely places to find the sort of work you're looking for in my opinion.

Thanks for your honesty - just wanted to know. =)

This doesn't mean you should give up though :). As I said, there are some people who look for artwork. There was a project on another forum which did want artwork, but it finished a couple of years ago, otherwise I would have directed you there. You just need to keep your eyes open.
All I'm saying is that I haven't seen these sorts of opportunities come up very often.

Hey Stormwind, if you're up for contributing to some BFG artwork drop me a PM sometime.

Do you work with Horizon on Warp Rift / rulesets?
-
Hey,
nope Jimmy is not from Warp Rift but that should not stop you from drawing things for him.
You did read my pm?

Dark Magenta (http://darkmagenta.co.uk/), the Inquisitor fanzine, is always looking for art to accompany articles. We normally use photos of models, but mostly because of the difficulty of finding artists. I'm not sure what articles are in the pipeline - Saussure over at The Conclave (http://www.the-conclave.co.uk/forum/) is the person to ask - I'm sure he'd be happy to hear from you.

Yeah I'm not that cool 8)

OK - I'm going to have a go at these Eldar craftworld ships - but as and when I doodle things or concept s I think are relevant I'll post them here.

If you're ever in the pipeline for drawing Ork stuff, myself and a few others from The Waaagh Forum are on the lookout (desperately) for artists for The Klanz Projekt (http://www.the-waaagh.com/forums/?showtopic=47695). We get a fair amount of artwork, but not nearly enough. We've recently managed to get the permission to use a fair bit of stuff from Deviant Art, but we're always on the lookout for talented and enthusiastic artists.
It's mostly 40k, but there's a tiny bit of SG in one of my Codexes (Rebel Grots), but Orks are always fun to draw, if that's the sort of thing you don't mind drawing. We're trying to go for authentic looking, well presented rulesets, so as far as we're concerned getting Artwork, Play-testing and Miniature Pictures is pretty much as important as the rules.
Irisado has a good point that rules are the priority, but anyone going to the effort of putting out a ruleset should at least consider the aesthetics at some point during production. Especially outside of the Specialist Games community, where there is a massive prejudice against fan-rules. Adding good artwork, pictures and fluff really brings a project to life, and makes it easier to convince people that your work is worth something. In practice, the less amateurish it looks, the more interest it attracts.
There are a lot of fan-rules projects out there who want good artwork. It's just a question of finding them, really.

I think the thing that's most attracting to me is a list saying "We are looking for this specifically and here is a rough brief".
It makes me feel like I could be useful or come up with a sketch relatively quickly and kind of feel like I'm picking from a "menu" of things so I can perform better. =-P

I'm glad to see that there are some potential possibilities developing in this thread. It's good to see some trends being bucked, and I hope that you're able to follow up on some of these opportunities.

Been massively unproductive this week - art wise - though doing well with modelling.
Went to the gaming club - picked up some High Elves- didn't get a game so picked up my pen and drew a phoenix guard type high elf!
