I'm a complete newbie to warmaster, I dismissed it as 'tiny warhammer' for many years and only recently have I had the blinkers pulled off my eyes to show me that the specialist games (I'm heavily into Epic Armageddon after a 15 year hiatus) are just better all round games
As an avid WFB player for many years, and a stalwart of the bad guy armies (closest I ever got was 300 points of dwarfs back in 4th edition which were sold off quick!) I've been thinking that I'd like to collect a bretonnian force for warmaster, columns of brightly painted knights and grubby peasants really appeals to me, so if you're willing to help out, I'm looking at putting a 'shopping list' together for the basics of a solid Bret army... are there any good proxies available for OOP units? is there any forumware people could point me towards? are there any solid trebuchet equivalents?
after Brets I like the look of the vampire counts and possibly orcs and goblins (I'm in love with the giant and ogre models)
I'm looking for a shopping list to cover all of the major army builds for those three armies if anyone has the time and/or desire to type something out
All the best!

Just to say brets and vampire counts are on the "expensive" group of figs. Quiet researched. Orcs and gobs are a little less expensive on ebay or forums. Say 10$ approx per unit for brets, and 7-5 for Orcs and gobs. For unpainted units.

I've been scouring ebay every day for the past 2/3 months looking for different things.
I've only seen a smattering of Brets there, though - more VC counts units - but no VC Counts army. Orcs and Gobbos are one of the "founding races" so are much easier / cheaper to find! =)

i too am nearly completed collecting the core armies sans chaos
to build and field as demo armies
personally already have Kislev, want lizzies and skaven but both are rather pricie and rare on ebay

I am also just new to Warmaster and I have to say after 3 months of E-bay scanning I have seen almost nothing for Bretonians in terms of good deals. The same can also be said for Araby, Kislev, Dark Elves, Daemons, Lizardmen. Purchasing from GW may be the only way you will get an army in any small amount of time. Of course there is currently Dark Elf AND Lizardmen armies on E-bay right now just to spite my words lol.
Don't worry about Bretonians missing OOP models though as they did not have much to begin with.

To come up with a shopping list the easiest way to address that is to take the relevant Army selector.
Assume you want to play 2k lists (smaller is OK for quick games and during bootcamp, but 2k will make for a challenging game)
Remember that 2k actualy doubles the numbers in the selector
2 packs of characters
2 x the number for each mandatory unit
at least 1 each of every other unit (if you have the funds to spare, it is a safe bet that those units that have a max cap / 1000 are probably worth their points, so invested in getting some of those extra !)
The above will give you slightly over the 2k mark and will allow some tailoring of your lists for different opponents/scenarios/terrain
For Bretonians specifically you want to take into account that they have the special Breakpoint rule, so take enough knight(variants).
Blister-2-unit wise you may consider to underpopulate your cavalry stands to get the extra millage from the blister and to remember that bretonian archers even allow single figure snippage. This will allow for some variation in placement and for eg. a unit that is just a line at the back of stands with stakes in front. Again this will get you extra millage from the blisters.
Also consider that Empire Crossbowmen or halbediers, and even flagelants may be used as alternative units for regular Bretonian infantry. Just put them in the correct livery for the Lord that hired mercenary troops.....

If you want a cheaper Bret army I'd suggest TBLine:

The sculpts are amazing. Easily on par with the early WM stuff if not better, and at half the current price of packs.
Also, this is what you get for looking at too many WM threads. :P

Those look good but I still can't find a good Trebuchet model. I've looked through the threads and found links to a 6mm one and a much too large 10mm one, but nothing quite like the old GW one with crew.

thanks for the advice everyone, and Dave, it was your HE plog over on taccmd which really inspired me so credit where it's due.....
I kinda like the look of the dwarfs now..... but I have so many epic armies in the pipeline too.....argh! :D

Yes, come and join us - I have about 5000 points of High Elf models I've bought for cheap - now in the process of getting the first 1000 pts or so shipshape for painting!

I am not bretonian player, but here is an advice: as breakpoint is calculated only with knights you would need a few numbers of them. You can base 3 models per base (cutting the strips) and have 3 units every 2 blisters. Cavalry look cool this way (is not only for save money)

@Stormwind, have you seen the Old Glory Trebuchet?: http://www.oldgloryuk.com/disp_item.php?c=343&oc=4162
I'd also second Dave's recommendation of TB line mini's, they are as good as he says.
