Title: A dilemma. Need help to identify some minis....
Post by: Big Red on May 07, 2012, 11:58:04 AM
Hi Team,

I recently acquired some Chaos Marauders that I identified as some of the now OOP Chaos North Marauders - a command strip and two more that are documented in the OOP Miniatures thread but the other strips that came with them I cannot identify.  They are different in style to the Chaos North Marauders and in someways, the quality too.  I do believe they are GW but they do not seem to be the normal Chaos Marauders (I have plenty to compare to).  They seem to be an original casting as there are plenty of dag etc

So... I am putting up these pics to show the combined "brains trust" of our WM community to identify......

In this pic, there is the command strip and another general strip of Chaos North Marauders but the other on (front and rear shot) is very different.  There are only 5 figures on the strip compared to the 6 on the others.  The "odd" strips bear a very good resemblance to GW Marauders but aren't the normal ones.

And the bottom 3 strips are definitely the Chaos North Marauders but the rest are different in stlye in comparison to the North Marauders...

Anyone got any ideas of where they're from etc?

Ah, so you're the one who won those. I still can't identify them. Maybe they were a test strip?

It is seems that is a test, but is only a guess.

@Big Red, do you mind if I use your pics for the catalogue?

@ Dave:   Yup... and since I've had them, I've been perplexed as to their origin. They really do look like GW minis but there's only 5 figs to the strip instead of the normal 6.  The casting is very well done which makes me think it's still GW.  And they do appear to be similar in nature/style to the normal Chaos Marauders - a bit more "chunkier" than the North Maruaders.

@ jchaos79:  No problems... I can take some better ones with better background and lighting for the catalogue if you would prefer.

Im with Jchaos and Dave here, cause there were some test men at arms for the bretonnian army which looked a bit different as well, maybe they did a test for the marauders too.

Yes, the top two strips are obviously Chaos Norse Marauders, released for the Storm of Chaos.

The bottom strips include models/poses that are clearly very close to the actual Chaos Marauder infantry you can still buy, so are very likely to be GW (or sculpted by the same person that made the GW Marauders). I'd agree they're probably 'unreleased' test models.

Interesting find. I myself bought a similar (as long as i can see) strange strip last year. And, again, marauders.

You can see it here :

http://www.collecting-citadel-miniatures.com/wiki/index.php/File:Unreleased_-_Warmaster_Chaos_Warriors.jpg (clic on the picture again to see comparison with actual strip).

Same history than you. Not exactly the same original strip. One character was added and there are some tiny differences.

I suppose your strip is in the direct same range. A test. Its bigger size shows it was a first sprue destined to be molded.

When i bought mine, there was a daemon sprue with it. I could never compare as i don't have any daemon sprue, but i suspect it to be an unreleased too. If someone do can propose picts of the slaaneshi daemons, i would be interested.
