Hi
I just got my thunderhawks - they are in new FW blister.
What puzzles me is that they are came with 4 Epic infantry bases - and as I've heard everyone in using 25 mm square bases for them (getting them not problem)
So should I mount them on epic bases or on WHFB square ones?
-
I prefer the WHFB movement tray blocks but I think you would be allowed to do both.
-
the rules these days require attack craft to be on 20mm squares. The fact they were sent with the current strip epic bases is because GW doesn't make the old square epic bases anymore.
-
I will say this: Mount them on whatever you and your group like best. There are token cutouts posted to the board that you can print out on thick paper that you can use if you ever went to tourny.

On this note, how well are they designed. I have never gotten a bad FW mold, but I hesitate to purchase something so very... small. So my 2 question is how well are these Thunderhawks made, and do you usually need 10 to a game or 20 (essentially if I were to buy, should I get 1 pack or 2 - I usually play 1500-2000pt games?)

Again, do what you like. I've seen two on a WHFB square base; I've seen 5 on a current EA strip base. All is groovy in my opinion. I prefer the look of large flights of fighters but I know I can't "play them" in some tournies (OTOH, I couldn't care less so :D). I like to take the round parts on left over sprues and cut them to various heights to mount the FW bombers and THawks on as it gives a varied look.

First off you can get a good idea of the level of detail by checking Spellscape's (awesome) work here (http://sg.tacticalwargames.net/forum/index.php?topic=4529.0).
As for the number required just take your fleet (in this example I'm going to go for 1500 6 SC 1 BB and some escorts plus MotF which means 6*2= 12+3=15 markers required and if you position your markers such as on Spellscape's (2 per base) your looking at 3 packages, of course if you were to mount one per base then you could get away with 2 packages and have enough left over for an additional BB and SC worth.

My regular opponent and I use the square bases to represent single markers and the 'strip' bases to represent two markers, being twice as wide. Also allows one to be a little more efficient in terms of the number of models needed. Barring official tournaments I don't really see an issue with it.
