Reading through the Wood Elf rules and I wondered what people thought of the list.
The list appears to introduce the 'no save if you roll a 6' rule which appears to really go against the theme of Warmaster where each stand represents ~8-10 'men'.
Personally at this scale, my initial thought is one of surprise that we see it in the game. Open to what other people's experience with the list is if they have played it?
Anyone?

assuming you are looking at the Wood Elf rules in the Alternative Armies ??

Regarding the WE army - I know a man who has played with WE during our last 3 tournaments. He never raise above 8-10th place of 12. His army consists of core infantry, driads and special units with no cavalry at all.
My own impression - this army is not simple to play and looks weak. Such super-units like Waywatchers can not solve the problems of unlucky command. Their special rule looks a bit unused at first glance but does not cause hostility.

Hi Lex - yeah from the Warmaster Trial Armies 2009. Is there another source?
Thanks Bel for that. I was looking at the force and thought of this as a 2000 point competitive list: http://wm-selector.appspot.com/army_selector.html?list=woodelf&label=&print=&0=6&1=4&3=2&4=2&5=1&6=1&7=2&8=1&9=1~SwF*1&10=1&11=2~1*1~ScD*1 (http://wm-selector.appspot.com/army_selector.html?list=woodelf&label=&print=&0=6&1=4&3=2&4=2&5=1&6=1&7=2&8=1&9=1~SwF*1&10=1&11=2~1*1~ScD*1)
Glade Riders and Wild Riders are interchangeable
The Warhawk Riders and Glade/Wild riders are there to pick off threats coming from behind the forest or to go for artillery
The rest of the army benefits from the defended tree lines
The 2 wizards reek havok on anyone coming too close to the forests (Fury of the Forest and/or Call of the Hunt)
Not sure if I could get enough of the army defending from the forests however.
The break point of 9 is reasonable seeing that if necessary, I am limiting or eliminating the effectiveness of Cavalry and Chariots
Thoughts?

what about more user-friendly presentation of the list?
For example like this:
Unnamed2000 Pts - Vampire Counts Army
1 Vampire Lord @ 165 Pts Strigoi
1 Vampire (Vargulf) @ 170 Pts Sword of Might [10] Winged Nightmare @ [80] Pts
1 Vampire @ 80 Pts
2 Necromancer @ 90 Pts
4 Skeletons @ 120 Pts
4 Zombies @ 140 Pts
2 Grave Guard (Crypt Horrors) @ 120 Pts
2 Fell Bats @ 130 Pts
4 Black Knights (Vargheists) @ 440 Pts
7 Ghouls @ 385 Pts
4 Dire Wolves @ 160 Pts
Break Point: 14 Total Army Cost: 2000

There as always a lot of hubhub on the subject of having armyselectors for an "army" that at its best would be like a allied division for a Bretonian army, all on account of the limited numbers of woodelves in GW lore.
There are at least 2 other (earlier) lists. The list that ended up in the Trial Armies is a "normalized" version of one of those, in the original list Waywatchers where one-shot artillery, hence the ignore armour, instead of a generic +1 to the AST of the target (like handgunners)

ah. Very good :)

what will you do against armies who play in defensive style?

LOL..... the Wood Elf list is based upon the principle that ANY army they face WILL be the attacker! The only reason that you get enough wood elves on the table to call them an army is in defensive of their home.
The original draft for the woodelves had them place 2 (or 3) objectives on their side of the table which essentualy give either VP, or where capturing (one or more of) them counted as a game-ending condition (same way as "Death of a General").

Aha! Never thought of that.
I guess that would be a quick game. :D
