It would be excellent if this site could provide an opponent finder. While it is easy to find players of the main 40k and Fantasy systems it has become increasingly hard for me to find opponents that play any of the specialist systems. At the moment I have an army or gang for almost them all and would love to actually get to use them once in a while. Thankfully Warmaster has begun to become popular at my club at least.
Would it be possible to have one organised here? Especially one that does not involve trawling through threads?

That's a good idea, we could do the easy way of having a single forum post where everyone posts where they are at, and have the maker of the thread update the first post with all the information ordered by city and country. Would be good to have a mod start it, less chance of the OP getting bored and stop updating it.
Or did you have another idea for an opponent finder?

redmanphill, where are you based?
We are always looking for players in the South Yorkshire area.

Included in the link is a registration form. Does that need more questions ? or is it OK like this ??
Opponent Finder Registration form (https://spreadsheets0.google.com/viewform?formkey=dG5ZVEp3UGI4S1d1OHV3VHJOLUJSWEE6MA..)
Results are kept here Opponent Finder (https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AgCdIVKDEvdndG5ZVEp3UGI4S1d1OHV3VHJOLUJSWEE&hl=nl)
I will neaten this up once I get a thumbs up that this is OK.

What, am I the only one interested in Finding Opponents?
-
Remember this is still Beta-test ;D
are there more fields/data needed ?????
-
Maybe the email or a shortcut to the person profile

Maybe the email or a shortcut to the person profile
I will need to figure out how to manage that 9-) but if you can skip to the profile then you can PM/mail the person without everyone setting up their mail-adress for spammers (that is why mail-adress was not included :P).
Added to the ToDo-list.

Do we really need to reinvent the wheel here?
Seems every forum tries to do something new on its own. There's at least three different populated databases already, I suggest we just spread the word and build on existing work done by others.
http://warhammerswede.blogspot.com/2011/11/how-to-find-players.html
I've been working on solutions. Best I can find is these:
* Google gaming stores. Use the Games Workshop store locator. Google "" and all the games you're interested in. Keep in mind that people who play a well-spread game like Epic 40K might be open to BFG or AI. 40K players might be interested in Necromunda or its fan-made variants that they don't have to buy stuff for. Fantasy players will be interested in Mordheim etc.
* http://nearbygamers.com/ - Probably the biggest of the "let's make a database for gamers" websites.
* http://www.accessdenied.net/ - Nicely set up, but seems to have a lot VERY OLD information.
* http://www.meetup.com/ - Good for lots of popular things, not so good for trying to find people to play old board games/wargames with. If you want something not just for wargaming, this is it.
* http://needgamers.com/ - New startup that looks great. But not so great once you realize the guy who's operating it is just doubling up on the work already done by people on the three above websites.
* http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?372312-A-List-of-Player-Finders - Where I found most of this, some dead links, and the RPG one is a non-functional website (process died halfway through registration).
* www.boardgamegeek.com is a great website, but sadly not much in the way of finding players. They really should have put a map up and let people network.

Well excuse me .... but we are hardly reinventing the wheel, instead we are looking at doing without one at all !!
The Opponent Finder simply extended on the existing ability to post data of yourself and your gaming habbits on the forum, in a proper format. Feel free to use it or to ignore it, but I dont see any good reason to register on the forums today and spam the same post on "opponent" finders in 3 different places...
You COULD have registered here in the forum, or used the form to register in the Opponent Finder (which indeed is very restricted as it was just meant to cater for people interested in the Specialist Games), right now we only now that you like Dark Future, are at least 25 years old and that you might be in DC soon........
