Title: Suitable music for Battlefleet Gothic
Post by: Lord Duggie The Mad on July 29, 2012, 02:51:51 AM
One of those thoughts that flit across the mind from time to time: what sort of music do fellow gamers find stirring for BFG.

A short list of some of my thoughts:

Holst's "The Planets" seems suitably titled.

Wagner's "Flight of the Valkires" is always a favourite

The 1812 overture - but it must be a rectiation that includes real cannon fire.

Carmina Burana works nicely if you can get it to reach the crescendo just as you start firing nova cannons etc.

Two Steps from Hell

Hans Zimmer's work fits nicely on occasion

Manowar - just count how many times they say "fight" on an album and tell me if that doesn't send a message!

Good call, Jimmy - a lot of amazing late 90s / early 00s PC games with cool space soundtracks.

I actually burned a CD of a fictional 40k movie to play during BFG :) Unfortunetly I renamed all the titles to mach 40k so i can't tell you what were the actual tracks. But it was quite a collection of great tunes.  As i remember i used music from  40k games like chaos gate ( some kickass choirs! chanting "Ultramarini" :) ) also last mohican, Starcraft, Starship troopers, king arthur, The Rock and lots& lots more.Hmm I wonder if i can post it here cause I really wan't to share it with you guys but is it leegal & stuff? i actually own all the CD because I'm a big soundtrack guy. One of the tunes I used in this video i posted before http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwsH2U8Ki8s&list=UUstMi7nMCT0gB7q-LtuZx9g&index=10&feature=plcp (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwsH2U8Ki8s&list=UUstMi7nMCT0gB7q-LtuZx9g&index=10&feature=plcp)

i think for a non-battle scene this would be suitable:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6FQMHDtcG8

imagine empty space during the intro, and then an imperial navy fleet entering realspace, and during the song, the camera slowly passes alongside every ship lenghtwise, showing all the mass of cathedral-like details...

dunno what everybody else thinks, but i think it would be fitting for such a peaceful, but imposing scene.
opinions?  :D

Wow, Seahawk, I have that same CD and love it. Also, Steve Roach (ambient) and copious amounts of metal. Stellar drone (ambient).

Soundtracks to the movies "Moon" by Clint Mansell and "Sunshine" by John Murphy

And if you haven't seen those movies WATCH THEM (I imagine if you play BFG you are a Sci-fi fan. Those are easily two of the best sci-fi movies there are IMO)

SAMPLES
Adagio in D from sunshine (also featured in many many movie trailers since then)

Welcom to Lunar Industries & Welcome to Lunar Industries(three year stretch)- from Moon (also in the trailor for a few movies I think, and the Aliens: Colonial Marines video game)

Well, iit depends on who's the "Main character" of the battle:
when the IN is under the spotlights we use Two steps from Hell
when Chaos is the posterboy then I prefere to go with Lustmord for some dark and creepy space atmosphere
