Title: Andy Hall - Leaving GW
Post by: CyberShadow on August 06, 2012, 12:12:16 PM

Many of you are aware of the pivotal role that Andy has played in Specialist Games, from day one, and the fact that he was instrumental in the creation of these boards and the continued support and presence of the Specialist Games at Games Workshop.

Andy dropped me a note recently, to let me know about a change in his career. His contract has come to a natural end in his current role at the end of this month, and rather than renew it he has decided to instead focus on his writing - both fiction and rules development - and take the opportunity to spend time with his new daughter.

I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Andy for all of his efforts with both GW and SG - and to remember that much of his SG work was done as a labour of love. I am certain that we would be in a far worse position at this point if it were not for him. On a personal level, Andy has always been extremely supportive of what we are trying to accomplish here, and has taken time and effort out of his regular duties to help us.

So, many thanks for everything Andy, from everyone here at the Specialist Arms bunker. We hope that you will stay in touch, and we wish you the very best in your future endeavours.
CS/Iain

As one of the "faceless masses" of mature gamers who loves the specialist games range (in fact it's virtually the only GW I still buy!) I will second these sentiments. Good luck to him with the writing career.

I guess now is a good time to finish off those armies guys!

I don't know the history that well but I won't buy anything GW related except for WM or EA... I'm worried that they will be shutting down their Specialist Game Range now... time to stock up I suppose. Maybe that's what they want us to think  :P

Glad somebody was our herald. I can't imagine playing a full game of regular Warhammer... it'd take years to complete an army to a decent level and then transporting it??? Bleh. Not my cup 'o tea.

Fear not. Andy is going to pass on my details to someone sympathetic to SG within GW so that we will still have 'a guy on the inside'. There is no reason to panic and as far as I am aware SG is in no more danger of cancellation than at any other time..... whether that is a comfort or not is up for debate. At this point, SG really doesn't cost GW anything as far as I can see, and until the molds disintegrate I don't think we need to be concerned.

Kudos, cheers, brilliant and all that. If the big A reads this, then I thank you for inspiring me so long ago!

I thought he had already left GW.

I thought he had already left GW.

??? No. He moved across to legal/IP for a fixed contract.

It's a shame to see him go, but I can't help but feel that it's becoming increasingly inevitable that those outside GW's core games development tend to end up searching for pastures new.

I'm grateful for all this efforts, and wish him all the best for the future.

Oh gosh, I am late.. but in case he reads this I will still say thank you for efforts and enthusiasm and all the best for the future, Andy! I hope you will find fulfillment in those new focus areas. Thank you!

So is there anyone "inside" GW involved with Specialist Games now?

Jervis is still there, and he has my contact details if anything comes up, so we are OK.
