I've just got back into a painting groove and thought I'd start a thread here to share whatever SG stuff I paint up over the coming months. No doubt this will be interrupted by other games but I'll leave that for my more general blog.
First up, reinforcements for my Chaos army. These chaps are going to stand in for Marauders (the miniatures for Marauders are great but just too detailed to get done quickly).
The Plaguebearers:

And a groupshot of the Plaguebearers with the Bloodletters:
I think it'll be a Chaos Sorceror next while I've still got the WM bug.
-
Those demons are super!
Like specially the green tones of plague beares. I use them as proxis of the chaos warriors.
Now you have the min units to play with daemon army, you could also consider to use chaos minis as proxis of demons and explore the demon list :) just change the point of view
-
Very nice! Great so see your work again! :)
-
Great job!! I like look and painting of both units
-
Thanks everyone, it's nice to be back :). Hopefully I'll have more to show soon, I've got to ride this wave of WM excitement!
-
Allways a pleausure to see a non standard army, congratulations!!
-
Always looking forward to seeing more models from you!
-
Here's today's effort. Inspired by all of the generous comments on here I thought I'd try to up my game a little.
Once the glue has dried I'll trim the grass a bit but other than that I'm pretty pleased with how it came out. Next up I'm aiming to paint some Chaos Knights which I hope to get finished as quickly as possible.
-
Again, this is fab - love the staff detail.
Mind you, trimming the grass makes me imagine you with a tiny lawn mower! What do you use, a pair of nose hair trimmers or something equally tiny? =-P
-
I know I shouldn't take that question seriously but... It'll be the scissors on my Swiss Army knife, they're the only ones I've found that are up to the task!
-
Very nice! But the public demands to see a tiny lawn mower now!
-
Despite the joke, it was a serious question, and thanks for the answer.
-
Great paint, I specially like the horns texture and scheme of colours.
-
That model is great, your paint job makes it awesome PW. Have you tried Silfor static grass tufts? You don't have to trim those. :P
-
I'm happy to see your minis again. Are you going to paint some more of your great empire army?
-
Hi, thanks for the kind words, it seems slightly uncool to say it but it really does help with the motivation to paint (and it's keeping me focussed on WM for now too). The plan is to get both the Chaos army and the Empire army up to 2000 points so that I can host some games and hopefully sort out a small games day around here (it'd be emarassing to organise something and then to turn up with unpainted stuff). So, yes, Empire will come next but as it's a largely infantry I'm not so excited about that! I'll post some army pics up soon to show you all where things are up to so far.
Back to the the subject of the tiny lawnmower, I've had a very odd accident. My Swiss Army knife scissors seem to be superglued shut. I've no idea how/when this happened but the things won't budge. Can anyone recommend something that breaks down superglue? Would brake fluid do it perhaps?
-
Use acetone based nail varnish remover. It softens the superglue. It's what I've used to break down the glue over my 2nd hand Epic Eldar and WM dwarves / elves.
-
Glorious!, this sorcerer is fabolous, i agree with Jchaos, the horn texture is just wonderful.
-
Holy heck how did this thread skip by my notice?! GOOD STUFF!!!! Keep it up!
I'm so happy there are people who are out there taking pride in their armies, I come from a shop where nobody has their stuff painted or it's just painted 2 colors and barely even assembled. Even if you can't paint, which is not the case here, making the effort makes SO much difference when you play. After all, this is a visual, material hobby, who have miniatures if they go unpainted?
Hopefully I don't offend any of you non-painters out there, that's not my intention! 8)
-
Thanks all.
Today's offering is a little different. After an hour or so of faffing about with tiny gyrocopters, my Dwarf Man O War fleet is finally done. For better or worse I decided to forgo the traditional garish colours and went with a more muted scheme that's fairly close to the Dreadfleet Dwarf ship.
The Fleet:

Dreadnoughts:

Ironclads:

Monitors:

Nautilus:
Gyrocopters:

Balloons:
Next on the paintstation, it's still some Chaos Knights for Warmaster...
EDIT: Are these pictures massive for everyone else? I resized them all (but for the fleet pic) to 320 in Photobucket but here they seem to be the original size.
-
And I am stunned, again! Great choice on the colour scheme - I used to gaze over White Dwarf in the 90s dreaming of a Dwarf Fleet.
-
I went for a Dwarf fleet on the advice of fellow forum member Marell le Fou. It's a 'loaner' fleet that I painted up for one of my friends so that we can play some games and from what Marell tells me (and the few games I've played confirm this) the Dwarf list is a fun one to use and is robust enough to give a novice player a decent game. With this fleet done I'm pretty excited about painting up my Imperial ships so that the games will look good.
Ultimately I'm hoping that I'll have at least two painted armies for each of the games I play so that I can host some great looking games in my games room. To date, the SG inventory is:
Warmaster
Empire, Chaos, Undead, Dark Elf, Dwarf, Orc, Kislev (Empire and Chaos are the 'live' painting projects)
Man O War
Dwarf, Imperial (dwarf fleet completed)
BFG
Imperial, Orc
Epic
Imperial Guard, Space Marines (about 4500 pts each, painted)
Blood Bowl
Skaven, Orc, Ogre (all painted - I used to have about eight painted teams but had a cull a few years back when my children were born, thankfully I kept these three)
Space Hulk
All still on sprues (but I do have a painted set of Grindhouse Games' Incursion which is basically a refined version of the game set in WWII)
Dreadfleet
This is part painted (see my aborted blog), to be honest I bought this for the gaming mat and the terrain (all of which is great for MOW). I don't imagine I'll ever really get excited about playing this
As yet, the only games I can host using fully painted armies are Epic and Blood Bowl. This blog is my attempt to change that!
-
Wow, your dwarf fleet looks great! I'm going to paint my WM Dwarves in your color scheme.
-
Thanks, it's certainly an easy scheme with paints/colours that cover well. The green is:
Gnarloc green
Badad black wash
Snot Green
Goblin Green edge highlight
What made it easier is that the metal (chainmail) got the same wash as the green so it doesn't take too long.
-
Man O' War - classic!!!
Nice painting. Simple but very effective.
It works lovely on the dreadfleet map.
Our group plays Uncharted Seas on 3 Dreadfleet maps I paid a seamstress to back with black felt and then sew together (it makes a seascape table roughly 5 feet by 8 feet). I chose a Dwarf fleet too because they are simple to paint, no fiddly masts and their turrets means it's less fiddly to keep track of fire arcs etc with as many ships.
Dave
-
Your gaming group sounds great, everytime I think I've 'built' one people move!
On Dwarf fleets - I must admit, the lack of masts and sails was a major draw (faffing around with maps and paper sails is certainly putting me off painting the Imperial fleet for now).
-
I just noticed the sneaky use of WH40K epic eldar transfers there! Harumph, the rune smiths won't like that one bit! =D
And my Lord, the last thing I need right now is to get the buying bug for Man o War, I need to concentrate on Warmaster or I'll never get anyone in my club interested!
Oh man, when I was 7 years old I would draw pictures of these and imagine owning them:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OOP-Citadel-Warhammer-Man-O-War-High-Elf-Eagleships-/221110712475?pt=UK_Toys_Wargames_RL&hash=item337b39b89b
I even painted watercolour pictures of them. I wonder if I still have one - I should scan it and post it for a laugh. =-P
-
You're a proffessional, a genious!!
-

Good spot, there's a bit of Chaos Space Marine in there too, I can't imagine the Runesmiths will like that much either!
-
With the Warmaster One Dayer on the horizon, I'm working on my Chaos army, this time it's some Khorne Knights:
I was pretty pleased with the banner, the icon is from the Chaos Space Marine's transfer sheet which seemed to stick to the contours of the banner after a couple of coats of Microsol.
And, here's poorly-taken photo of the army so far (I think it's around 2000 points):
Next up, a couple of units of ogres.
-
Brass and blood! Very pleasing. =D
So is this an allied army?
-
It's meant to be a chaos mortal army, the daemons are pretending to be marauders because the actual marauder figs were taking me too long to paint. Once they go it'll be Chaos undivided with a hint of Khorne.
-
Beautiful red theme chaos army!!, awsome!
-
Thanks. :) When I get the time I'm going to repaint the Harpies in read/flesh/black. The green paint job doesn't fit the theme (though I quite like them). I think once they're in the 'uniform' colours the army will come together a little better as a coherent force (just the Nurgle dudes will stand out then and they're a little more muted).
-
Very nice fleet! I really like how the green makes the models pop.
-
It's been a big day for Warmaster here. First I took delivery of some FW buildings which look even nicer than I'd hoped. This event inspired me to get painting and I've finally finished two units of Ogres and repainted the Harpies to better match the army's colour scheme.
The Ogres:

The Harpies:
Next up it's Tiny Archaon, Lord of the End Times. If things go to plan he'll be stood atop a world of skulls in true GW style!
@beserkmonkey - thanks, once I finish my Warmaster binge I think I'll be heading back to Man O War to get my Empire fleet painted up.
-
Nice work...I like the redo on the Harpies :)
-
Thanks TST, it was Kesseki's fault - his post reminded me of the importance of keeping a strong theme across the army and once I'd got the idea into my head those green harpies had to go!
-
Nice creatures!!.
My fault?, o_O, what have i said?...
Your armies are my envy :-(
-
My fault?, o_O, what have i said?...
You said the right thing! I'm really pleased with the Harpies, not because it's a particularly great paint job (they're pretty basic really) but because the colour choice is right for the army. For that I have you to thank!
-
Those ogres are superb! great work, Armies of chaos are rising.
-
You're also to blame for this! If it wasn't for the Warmaster gaming day in November I wouldn't have had the motivation to get this done.
The best thing is that with these three units done, I now have my first ever painted Warmaster army. I think it must be about 2200 points or so, I'll get the out for an army picture once Archaon is done.
-
:)
-
Fabulous, the ogres especially feel very characterful!

Thanks to you for showing us such a good army!

The last (for now) Chaos models. First up, it's a dude with a trumpet:
He's tooting his little heart out because this chap has turned up to lead the army:
It turns out that it's pretty hard (for me) to take pictures of miniatures that are largely black. There's shading on that horse, I promise!
-
Wow... Archaeon Himself! Beware people from the Empire!
-
Here's the army as it now stands:
The list so far:
General
2 Sorcerers
2 Heroes
1 Hero on Dragon (the Daemon Prince)
2 Chaos Knights
2 Chaos Warriors
2 Ogres
4 Chaos Marauders (the daemons)
1 Chariots
4 Hounds
1 Dragon Ogres
1 Harpies
1 Spawn
That's just a bit over 2000 points I think. I'm pretty happy leaving the army at this stage for a bit but before too long I'd like to pick up and paint the Khorne hero on Juggernaut that comes with the Daemon Character pack (to lead the Khorne contingent), the Epic Mortarion figure (to lead the Nurglers) and another unit of Harpies. Then (if I find myself playing bigger games) I think my pile of unpainted lead includes:
Nurgle Daemon Prince
6 units of 'proper' Marauders
2 units of Marauder horse
2 units Chaos Knights
3 units of Chaos Warriors
Hero on Chaos Dragon
-
Your Red Chaos family is so awsome!!. I love it
-
Not a very exciting update today, but I've finally finished the base for my Warmaster Hamlet:
The buildings can be removed once it gets busy in there so it's hopefully going to be a practical bit of terrain for gaming. I know my infantry are going to love hanging out in there laughing at marauding Chaos Knights...
-
That's pretty cool. The possibility of remove the buildings is very usefull during the games.
Good work!
-
You have all in mind ;-), wonderful village.
-
Another not very exciting update, this time, it's static grass! I bought myself a painted Dark Elf army on ebay a while back and decided to redo the bases so that they matched my other armies. Several months later the job is finished, the paint job isn't perfect but they're good enough for the table.
Here's a picture:
And, if it works, here's a very wobbly film... [edit: it does work, it seems to open up in photobucket. Though it is rubbish!]
(http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h291/Levinas/Warmaster/th_P1000935.jpg) (http://s67.photobucket.com/albums/h291/Levinas/Warmaster/?action=view¤t=P1000935.mp4)
-
Itlooks very nice!!, though the photos can be better, i'm sure your army is still better in person ;)
-
This one's for Mick who threw down a painting gauntlet...
So, speedy for me, here's the latest unit to join the Chaos horde, just in time for next weekend's game:
The eagle-eyed amongst you might spot that the character pack musician has joined this unit. For some reason the unit was missing a knight so I prised this little chap off his two pence coin and pressed him into action. And no, it's not a demotion, this aspiring champion now has his own unit of knights and is simply delighted.
-
Great, sometimes a missing figure makes able unique units. Take vantage form the disadvantage :)
-
Blends in perfectly, PW. = )
-
Thanks guys. It was a pretty happy fit really. The prevous owner of the Knights had snipped a couple of strips too which meant that I could have a little more variety in terms of position - I wish I'd done this with my other ones as I seem to have a lot of one strip and relatively few of the other. Next time!
