Hi there everyone!
Since I am enjoying all the nice figures posted in these forums, I would like to share my stuff too. Id like to start with my lizardmen army. It is my first army and it took about 4 months to paint them. I yet have to play my first game of warmaster, but I fear I will never find someone to play with.
The pictures are a little too dark. The reason being that I just suck at making pictures and have bad luck with the light (it was so sunny yesterday, but once I was ready to photograph the army, the sun was gone).
Anyways, here is the army:

These are magnificent! Give me your address and you can paint mine!
You have 1 week! :D
-
Wow! These are marvellous and make me want to get an army of lizards right now!
Where are you based? I'd love to play against this army if you're somewhere nearby (though if the weather was good where you are then I don't think you live near me!)
-
Wow, those are great models! I am not into the look of lizardmen, but looking at those makes me want to buy an army!
Purple - bold colour choice but it really works!
The purple and yellow skinks work particularly well!
Much kudos to you - may your monkey venom darts fly true. :)
Dave
-
Very impressive and great paint (also good photo)!
where are you located?
did you check the oppnent finder?

hope it helps, these great army needs to hit the table!
-
These are stunning, I'm sorry that I'm miles away in Berkshire!
Love the bone helmets especially.
-
Great army!! Like a lot the highlights effects and colours :)
-
A very nicely painted army!!
I really like the color choices and it all blends well together as a cohesive force. I'll be stealing some of the color schemes for my Lizardmen (when I get to them)!
-
Great painting. I also like the color choice and your highlighting. Plus you get a bonus for the nice "jungle" background in some of the pics....
-
Just beautiful, i hope you can find any opponent to enjoy your army, it's very impressive.
-
Hello there everyone,
thanks a lot for the nice comments! After reading them I got a huge motivation boost to paint even more. :D I am happy you like the color scheme. I was a little worried about the army being too colorful; for all my warhammer armies I used only very few colors and this was my first time using so many distinct ones.
Initially I planed to add another unit of saurus to the army in order to make it more symmetric (if that makes any sense), but I got distracted by dwarves. They are really cool and I painted one stand of warriors and one stand of slayers already to test the color scheme. I intend to make some pictures of them this weekend and post them here. It would be cool to get some suggestions about the way my dwarf army could look like and what I could improve with regards to the painting.
I live in Paderborn, a city in Germany. I am also quite often in Austria visiting my girlfriend (Salzburg and Vienna). There are like no warmaster players around here, at least I never met one. Though I wouldnt mind to travel in order to play a game. Right now my plan is to finish another army and play with my friends who are not into wargaming. My first victim will be my girlfriend.
-
Hey Toon, hook up with Gerald, Sia and company, there is a significant playerbase around Vienna and there are several german players I am aware of too.
And keep an eye out for a new EuroGT....
-
And keep an eye out for a new EuroGT....
Oh yes? Great news... :D
I will keep "two" eyes ;)
-
Very nice job! I really like the nice blues you went with.
-
:o :o
Now I HAVE to paint a lizardman army. That Slann is AMAZING! What a wonderful army. I can't find a flaw, really good work and I'm not trying to be patronizing, I really mean it.
I wish you guys were near me I would love to play a game with such a beautiful army on the table.
-
Amazing army
-
Topnotch paintjob! Love the mix and excecution of purple and blue works really well without making them too colorfull. Makes me wanna have a lizard army. :D :)
-
Hello friendly forum dwellers!
Thanks a lot for your nice comments. They motivated me to paint more stuff.
Here are the first units of my new dwarf army. I was trying to find a good balance between the quality of the paint job and the time required to paint them. Please tell me what you think about them and what I should improve (like maybe an extra highlight on the slayer skin?).
I glued magnets onto the first base of the warrior unit. This is why it it looks a lot thicker than the rest. I am not sure if I like that. Acutally I dont like the look of it, but the magnets make transporting the army way easier. What do you think?
-
These are absolutely stunning - I wouldn't say they need anything adding at all! The snowy bases are beautiful too!
-
Toon, I would gladly give you a go at doing MY trollslayers.... 8)
-
Great painting! I like the colors and those viking style beards... 8)
The fact of the thicker base is not very noticeable or odd, at least in the pics for me :)
-
Great painting, lot of strengh and define job. Also good use of colours. Very nice work
-
Really, really great paintjob.
I know what I´m talking about because when I did dwarfs I also painted their eyebrows, beards...etc.
Regards
Claus
-
They are wonderful, I love the colours and the basing.
-
I wouldn't do anything else to them - they're brill!
Dave
-
Thanks for the kind words guys! Really happy you like the dwarfies.
Here is a stand of nurgle dudes that I painted to see if starting some kind of chaos army is a good idea (I need some evil guys to play against the dwarves and lizzards).
I chose plague bearers because someone on some warmaster forum posted that they can replace marauders and are fast to paint. Which seems to be a good idea.
Sorry for the blurry picture!
-
That might have been me... my youngest ran a Chaos proxy with these as Marauders and actual WHFB/40K Nurglings as Warriors....
Those where slapdashed... basic coat, wash and different colors on weapons and hors etc for some variance....
Now your painting makes me want to trow them into a vat of Break Liquid... :'(
-
wow, looking for your pics, it will be a great idea start this army. The plague bearers you painted are superb
-
Those Plaguebearers look great. :) It might be mine you're thinking of, I use them as Marauders (along with some Bloodletters) and did it purely for speed. Of the two the Plaguebearers were easily the fastest and I think look the best (I really like the sculpts and the casts were much better too - the Bloodletters had a lot of flash etc). If I get some more PBs the only change I'd make would be to create a standard bearer to indicate the front rank (very helpful when you've got multiple units).
-
Hi again everyone!
Id like to share some orcs I painted yesterday. They are still work in progress (base not done). The idea behind the color scheme ist make them look like the miniatures 15 years ago when I started with warhammer. Initially I also wanted to include the red color (as in the red period), but decided that this would be too much. Hope you guys like them!

Nice work Toon.....
Orcs on the beach 8)
-
Very nice Orcs :)
-
Mate those are amazing! The green skin tone and the blue paraphenalia work really well together!
-
superb work, totally inspirational stuff!!!
-
The bright colours really work at this scale and you've avoided them looking so bright they're garish.
Top painting!
Dave
-
Thanks for the nice words!
Here is a unit of Araby flying carpets. Painted by my girlfriend. She claimed all my araby stuff. I bet she will never ever paint everything.

Awesome stuff. Can you go over how you did the Plague Bearers and Orcs?
-
:o :o :o :o :o :o :o just stunning....
-
Really nice! 8)
-
Looking good!
-
Great painting job!
-
Your girlfriend painted them?
I believe I am experiencing the emotion known as jealousy, Captain.
-
They look great!
Your girlfriend painted them? She sounds like marriage material.
-
Thanks the compliments, my girlfriend was very happy to hear them.
@Dave
Almost with all colors I do the following. I apply the base color, then use a wash (that is darker than the base color) and then use the base color again to highlight the raised areas. Later on, I sometimes apply additional highlights. The paints used are the new ones from GW. They are, imho, great and I am especially a big fan of their washes.
Orc skin:
1) Warboss Green over all the skin areas (I dont really care that much about blacklineing, as the wash does this job automatically)
2) Wash with Athonian Camoshade
3) Again Warboss Green on the raised areas
4) Final highlight with Nurgling Green
5) Glaze the entire skin with Waywatcher Green (the glaze makes the highlights look smoother for some reason...)
Orc weapons:
1) Ironbreaker (dark silver color)
2) Agrax Earthshade wash (it's dark brown)
3) Ironbreaker again (on the things you want to look sharp
Orc blue:
1) a Dark Blue (dont know the name, since my paints are not labeled correctly for some reason)
2) Drakenhof Nightshade
3) again the same dark blue
4) bright blue highlight
Plague bearer:
1) Nurgling Green (I dont really care that much about blacklineing, as the wash does this job automatically)
2) Wash with Athonian Camoshade
3) highlight with Nurgling Green
Hope that helps. If you have any question, ask please!
-
Wow....Congrats to you for this girlfriend....and congrats to your girlfriend for this painting job.
I know how hard it is to pain all the small ornaments on the carpets.
Especially I like the colour scheme she used....it´s definitely something I will borrow for my last Flying Carpte unit.

Claus

Hi everyone,
this is a diorama my gf and I made recently. The orcs are painted by me and the imperium guys by her. It was a gift for our friends. My camera unfortunately swallowed most of the red highlights. Just imagine the imperium to be highlighted 4-5 times. The river was very difficult to create, since we used the artificial water for the very first time. It required 4 tries to achieve the final result (which still leaves a lot of room for improvement). Hope you like it!

Excellent work!

Impressive
How is she still only a gf?:)
-
Beautiful diorama. Congratulation to both of you for your great cooperative work.
-
Some wonderful classic models getting some love there. =)
-
Wow. The banner is AWESOME!
Nice diorama.
Dave
-
Wow! The diorama looks great!
How did you make the mountains?
-
Brilliant work! I wish I could paint like that :(
-
amazing! considering the scale and the detail of the painting I can only say that I am truly amazed!
-
Thank you for the positive feedback, everyone!
@fracas: We are working on the gf-thingie ;-)
@BlackEd: Creating the mountains was surprisingly easy! We used styrodur, simply carved out the mountain and the rocks with a sharp knife und drybrushed it with various shades of grey.
The actual challenge was glueing the rocks to the styrodur base. We couldn´t find an adhesive which glues the parts together without dissolving the styrodur (we had the same problem with the artificial water. It has to be heated prior to being poured, so ultimately we had to coat the riverbed with green stuff to prevent contraction of the styrodur and resulting air bubbles). In the end we settled with pinning the rocks in place using sewing pins. Working with the styrodur was in fact so simple, cheap and yielded such nice results, that we can´t wait to build more warmaster terrain :-)
-
Just for the understanding of all, that is a WARMASTER sized piece ?!?
-
Yeah, sure, it's Warmaster.
-
Whoa wait, whoa, what.
I assumed these were just old school warhammer 28mm models. I am having to rub my eyes and look again.
Mindblowing.

Yeah, I figured you had missed that from your first reaction 8)
-
I am speechless! The quality and the detail you have achieved is simply amazing!!!!
one thing though, I just noticed your gf's arabians and I would love to replicate the cream and brown colours on them. could you share with us the colours she used?
-
@Meraklis: (TooN´s gf here) Sorry for the late response, but I had to wait for my bf to come home, because I had a picture of the cream colors on his mobile :-) Unfortunately, as the araby models were only test models and I have been painting high elves for the last months or so, I can´t remember how exactly I painted the brown (I started with a layer of scorched brown though and then highlighted with 2 lighter colors). For the cream color I simply painted 3 layers: Khemri Brown - Rakarth Flesh - Bleached Bone.
Hope this was of any help :-) Looking forward to see your araby models, I find it is the most beautiful warmaster army!
-
thx a lot!
by the way, I would love to see some of your High Elves... any links?
-
Ask nicely and maybe they bring them around to Bergen op Zoom to the Playtest event, and you can come look in person 8)
-
hehehe
pretty please?
btw I would love to join the event but my wallet can't stand it...
maybe next year? are you planning to run this annualy?
-
Hey Meraklis,
thanks for your interest in the high elves. I didnt take many pictures of the army yet, but once I do I will post them here.
-
Wow, what a great minidiorama. Excellent work!
-
I just noticed that the resolution of my pictures in this thread was changed (i guess the upgrade to imageshack.com messed things up) and they were displayed in a horrible way. Now I fixed everything and, while doing so, I added some more pictures of my lizardmen in this thread's first post.
-
Serious question: How do you paint your snowy bases? I really want to emulate that for my Dwarves!
-
Lizards look great .
Stuart
-
I used only GW products to make the bases:
Astrogranite (Citadel Texture Paint)
Drybrushed with Etherium Blue
Washed with thinned down Drakenhof Nightshade
Last, GW snow was added
-
Ah, thank you! I will try to emulate that, with codex grey, space wolves grey and asurmen blue wash.
-

-
Absolutely stunning work as usual!
-
wow, those elephants rocks
-
Yess they are really nice ! And Elves too.
For my part, i like elephants in a more brownish colour, but they are very well painted and the painting job is clear and luminous. I like that.
-
Very nicely done , both the elves and the elephants . Excellent work .
Stuart
-
Excellent! How did you get that creamy white on the Elephants?
Dave
-
Thanks guys.
For the cream color I simply painted 3 layers: Khemri Brown - Rakarth Flesh - Bleached Bone.
-
Each layer just simply painted on top of the next or was there any fancy diluting of paint with water or blending etc?
Curious because I like that effect and I'm not so good at painting white.
I've cracked black at this scale but not white yet.
Dave
-
Nothing fancy, but I use quite a lot of water. When using such diluted paint you might have to apply several layers of the same color.
On another note, you should post some pictures of your miniatures some time too Dave.
-
Cheers
I'm slightly ashamed to admit I don't even own a camera! Bit of a luddite really.
The missus takes all the family pictures in her Iphone.
I've tried taking pictures with a blackberry and they are grainy, fuzzy and just not worth it.
One of these days I'll pull my finger out and buy myself a nice digital camera with a macro lens to take nice mini photos.
Dave
-
All my pictures are taken with an iphone 4 ;) no excuses please!
-
love those elves!
love those elephants!
show me more :)
-
Your elfs seem to me somehow "evil/dark". I like them 8) Excellent paint job!
-
Really great painting , the army will look amazing .
Stuart
-
Those are both awesome!!! the elephants are so darn good! Love the different highelf colors as well.
-
Due to work I neglected the warmaster hobby during the last months. I hope I can change that in the next week. Yesterday I managed to take some pictures of my high elves. I will try to post some of them (if I manage to upload them somehow).
Do you really think the Elves look evil? I never thought they would, as they are bright and shiny. But I like the idea of them being evil :)
-
Imageshack now apparently charges money for direct links to images. So here are two links to my elf army:
https://imageshack.com/i/pbrq0Cwtj
https://imageshack.com/i/exkcqIbFj
Does anyone know a good way to host images so I can post the rest of my pictures?
-
If you have a google account you have a picasa space. I think it's up to 15GB or so.
-
Picassa web is pretty good, I've been using for a few years now to upload photos of figures - I've only used 350MB of my 15GB of space.
Keep with the old interface not the Google+ version that is hard work, if you just want to link to photos from forum posts. Its probably great if you want web albums and sharing and all that stuff.
-
I use photobucket and i didn't have any problem in years.
Your paint is awesome
-
Really nice work. Thanks for the photos. Sets a high standard for us all to aspire to!
