Due to a spot of bad planning on my part I had run out of things to paint 3 weeks before payday with no undercoat to be found in the house.
So I decided to finish off a slotcar project I have had on hold for 5 years.
After spraying the car mettalic red I wondered if I could use a gloss spray to any effect.
My friend uses it all the time (as he is a tight wad ;)) but I was dubious.
I didn't think the acrylic would adhere sufficiently.
So I tried it out. ???
The results are amazing.
The metallic red is the best I have ever achieved (i.e. RED and not PINK).
So I dug out all of my old metallic auto spray and got down to spraying 8 units of knights and 4 units of warriors in various colours to match the 4 powers.
Yes I can paint again :)
Doing this cuts out a major portion of the work required as in effect you just have to pick out the detail.
The paint adheres fine as do washes, inks are a bit hit and miss but it is something I am prepared to live with for the time I have saved.
I will post pics when I have finished them all.

Hi Azrael,
did you finish those champions of chaos? It will be great to have a glimpse of them. I think your idea could work really good. You have tons of them and always surprise!!
-
Sorry for the delay other things have distracted me :(
I managed to finish some of these yesterday and I was going to post some pics but then SH turned up and everything else faded into unimportance :)

As promised.
Here are my chaos warriors.

They look really good. From the description I'm guessing they were also pretty quick to do which doesn't actually show on the models so I'd count that as a major success. Seeing them has made me all the keener to trade my orcs/elves for some Chaos toys!
My one criticism is the bases which look ok but which (to my tastes) might be nicer with a bit of sand and static grass (in the style of Maister.Petz/Pugwash). I'd thoroughly recommend Vallejo grey pumice which paints on and can be spread thick enough to disguise the bases of the strips really easily.

The results seems amazing, and it looks like that you can rise a whole army in one weekend!
What a success!!

After a slight delay :P I have come back to this project.
Here are my nurgle knights and warriors.

The dark (BRG) metallic green works very well with these.
Used a selection of browns and metallics followed by a generous black/brown wash.
Tzeentch next.

looks great! I specially like the banners, they caught the nurgle feeling :)

I'm blaming you personally for the fact that I'm now trawling ebay for a WM Chaos army! I've now convinced myself I could paint one vaguely quickly... All I need to do then is to track down the Storm of Chaos character pack (which I agreed a deal on yesterday on BT and then got gazzumped >:( ) and then I'll be ready to try my hand at running a WM Storm of Chaos campaign using the old Mighty Empires rules, the new ME tiles, and a smattering of the campaign rules from WM Ancients. That's the plan anyway. If I can work it out properly, and if people are interested, it may even be an online campaign... But that's a project for the new year, before then (apart from buying more toys), there's a house move, and lots of teaching to get done.
Apologies for the thread hijack, I really just came on to say that they look really good and that I'll be stealing the technique.

NP.
That was the idea of posting it. To help get others to get their armies painted quickly.
I am very lazy by nature so anything that lets me knock out 2k points in a few weeks is a win :)
Do make sure you do a light dullcote between the base and starting to paint.
As for the storm of chaos characters GOOD LUCK.
I have never managed to get a set :(
I will be up for a campaign online or face to face :)

Try here for a chaos army

postage and the exchange rate might make it unreasonable but who knows.

Here is the tzeentch contingent.
Not that happy with them if I am honest.

And the last lot, my favourite chaos power Slaanesh.

So managed 9 units in around 9 hours.
It is definitely a useful technique for painting heavy chaos troops fast.

It's the marauders that are particularly difficult to paint. Nice figures, though.
Go figure.
