Anyone know the status of new Epic models and/or armies? This question can go for Specialist Games in general. I am grateful for the resurrection of these boards, however!
-
AFAIK, there will not be any new Epic models. Just like nearly all Specialist Games games, there isn't any support for them now apart from existing stock listed on the GW website.
Basically, until the moulds wear out there's stock.

Thanks for the links! The necrons look pretty close!

Although it hasn't said as much in quite as explicit terms as this, GW has, to all intents and purposes, confirmed that there will be no new developments for Epic. On that basis, don't expect any new models in the near future, or indeed ever.
-
Shame. I enjoyed Epic Armageddon probably more than 40K. Love BFG also. GW should've finished the line before closing further development. It seems they do this quite a bit, always leaving us wanting more to no avail.
-
Based on the lists that they support (note chaos not included) what have they not produced?
If you are referring to all the new 40k vehicles, why would they hamstring 40k?
GW did support their epic line. There is not much there that they left without a mini. They cannot account for community lists.
-
Frogbear - remember that there are tonnes of units they don't provide - not community lists or new models, but things like Tyranids which go for a mint on ebay as they've been OOP for a while.
-
There is no gw tyranid list
What do they not provide?
-
Orks
Marines
Eldar
Imperial guard
White scars
Snagga snagga list
These are all the gw lists and they all have supported minis
-
There is an argument that other established races in the 40K should reasonably expect lists and support - Tau, Necrons, Tyranids. Thats before you think about the fringe races such as Inquisition, etc. I dont think that it can be argued that the initial intention WAS to cover a variety of not only races but variant army lists (illustrated by the development of Marine Chapters inidividually, etc).
I agree that all official GW lists are officially supported by miniatures, but if Blood Bowl had only had Orc and Human teams, and no other teams or miniatures, would the players say that was great as it was fully supported?
-
Blood bowl has more than orcs and humans that are ifficial as per the tournament rules.
I just think that saying gw does not support its games is not altogether correct. They do support specialist games by keeping existant miniatures for existant rules. Saying otherwise is incorrect.
Do we want more - yes
What they have though based on the rules that THEY provide is sufficient.
-
I entirely agree, and to be honest, there are worse fates than being forgotten and still on sale as a GW game!
I guess I am trying to make the point that there are shades of grey (but not 50!). On the one hand, they have produced a game that is 'complete' as a product, and which there are very few holes in the lines within the parameters that they have set. On the other hand, the game doesnt exist in a vacuum and there are several additional very established races and players do expect them to be additions. (However, counter to this is the 'its set on Armageddon' tagline for the game.)

It's possibly worth adding that when Epic was at its height, all the main 40K races were represented. These races, save Tyranids, were updated for EA, so in that sense all the original Epic armies are provided for, including Chaos if you have a lot of models from the Space Marine era.
I suspect that the intention may well have been to add the newer races in later, but with Epic not proving popular enough in terms of sales, that was never going to happen.
