Title: BFG:R Vote 42: Battlefleet Bakka Carriers
Post by: afterimagedan on February 28, 2013, 02:15:15 AM
"Due to suspicions regarding the use of attack craft, fleets using the Battlefleet Bakka list may only take ships with launch bays under reserve rules. Unless otherwise stated, these ships are still part of Battlefleet Bakka and may be used as reserves in other Imperial Navy fleets."

So would this mean I can take the Jovian in any list? Im not terribly opposed to this, it is after all possible that Bakka could send the Jovian out in support of another fleet. I dont know how many others would think thats all good tho :/.

Well, this wouldn't change the Jovian's rules so no, not really. The Jovian entry will still say:

"It is a reserve vessel of Battlefleet Bakka and can only be used as such by Bakka fleets and not with other fleet lists."

I'd see the Jovian as Reserve for all IN-Fleets. So no, it needs more work.

Well, pass this for the Bakka carrier rule. We can do the next vote for the Jovian.

The Jovian is a class where only a single example was ever built/converted. It shouldn't be allowed outside of Bakka. ever.

Was it build in Bakka? Then I agree with Vaaish.

Doesn't mean it couldn't be sent somewhere else. It is a spaceship after all, warp currents etc aside, it can go wherever it needs to be.

Look, if a one of a kind car is built in, say, Italy. Would that stop said car from being driven beyond Italy's border?
Or anywhere else for that matter.

Ships in BFG get moved around with some regularity, a contingent from Battlefleet Gothic being sent to Cadia during the 13th Black Crusade for example. Should the Imperium win that conflict, whose to say that any vessels from that contingent be ordered to remain in the Cadian sector to cover losses there?

Were going to need a good bit of testing on this to see how it works out. Im afraid that we may need to look for more attack craft protection with this.

There are only a few ways to break this rule with the current restrictions on carriers in a 1500pt Bakka fleet:

-Rath + Emperor then 4 Siluria and 2 Dominions or 1 Dominion plus 1 Jovian.  (LC 16-18)
-3 Dominion + 6 Siluria. (LC 12)
-9 Siluria + 3 Defiant  (LC 6)

All this rule does is restrict Bakka from taking rediculous carrier lists at 1500pts. What about 1000pts?

-4 Siluria + 2 Dominion or 1 Dominion + 1 Jovian (LC 8-10)
6 Siluria + 2 Defiant (LC 4)

I don't think this is much of a change in the Bakka rules that needs to be heavily playtested. Playtest it? Sure, but most games you will be obeying both sets of rules already.  Did I miss any options?

I think that the siluria is enough of a downgrade that you out weigh any benefits of getting that high AC with this fleet. I'm more concerned with tests against high AC fleets and Tournament fleets. By making the AC harder to come by are we ensuring that everyone using bakka will automatically include a Jovian to keep up or will they be fine with a dominion or Dictator.

That's exactly what I had been thinking too. With these restrictions, which don't seem to change much as far as limiting carriers that are already heavily limited, I think we are just putting pressure on them to take a Jovian. That's sort of crappy, IMO. In most 1000pt games with Bakka, many people will be taking a Jovian anyways, even without this rule.  I don't think this rule is necessary.

Fleet Admiral
Jovian (extra turrets)
Gothic (extra turrets)
Endeavour
3x Swords (extra turrets)

Im just going to point out that a 750pt IN list where every ship has 3+ turrets shouldn't have such an easy time getting 6 launch also, a Dominion would be even better.

Edit: sorry forgot the Jovian was already a reserve ship, still a Dominion drops right in there.
