Following are the rules for GothiComp 2013, feedback appreciated:
Rules GothiComp 2013.
This is the ninth annual GothiComp, and will be run in a similar way to last years event.
The Goal
The general aim of this competition is simply to encourage players to get painting and show off what they can do. I encourage people to enter no matter how good or bad their painting and converting skills are.
The Deadline
This competition will open Wednesday may 1, 2013, and the deadline for submissions is Wednesday 31st July 2013.
The Categories
General note: we encourage new ships not been shown in a previous edition of GothiComp. Of course vessels that have been completely repainted are allowed again.
The Single Ship/Squadron entry
Each separate entry should consist of a single miniature (being capital ships) to be used for Battlefleet Gothic (however, note that conversions, scratch builds and even vessels from outside manufacturers are welcome). The only exception to this is:
- If the vessel is a light cruiser or equivalent, one or two vessels may be submitted as a single entry in the same photograph. Space Marine Strike Cruisers can be treated as light cruisers.
Aside from this stipulation, the entry is largely down to the participant.
The community will vote on the entries as usual.
One-Hit Category
This category consists of all 1 hit-point structures & vessels in the game of Battlefleet Gothic. Entries may consist from 1 to 6 models.
The community will vote on the entries as usual.
In addition, there will be a 'conversion prize' chosen from single ship & one hit category. This will be a token prize for one entry based on the skill and style of any conversion work which has gone into the vessel, in an effort to encourage creativity in modelling as well as painting. This will be judged by a select panel. All entries are automatically submitted into both competitions simultaneously. The judges for the conversion prize are myself, Cybershadow and a third person.
The fleet category
Each separate entry should consist of a fleet worth at least 500 and a maximum of 2000 points following the standard BFG list or equivalent (the 2010 drafts are allowed even if GW has not uploaded them by then) .
The community will vote on the entries as usual.
The Prizes
* new in box shrink wrapped Dark Realm Miniatures Kraytonian Souldagger Battleship. [from Markconz] -> Single Ship Category
* something [from Andrew Christlieb] -> One Hit Category
* blister with shark assault boats (Armiger84) -> Fleet Category
* Three Typhoon Class Frigates (3 different models) Blindhorizon -> Fleet Category
* A 3up version of the Chaos Cruiser (custom design) (Baygon_choco) -> Conversion Prize
If we want to please every winner we need three more prizes. So if anyone likes to donate we would be grateful.
The Pictures
You should submit a single picture per entry, no more. Each photograph should be no more than 3 megabytes large. The pixel width should not exceed 1024 x 768.
The Submission
To submit a picture of your vessel to this competition, you simply mail it at: comps@tacticalwargames.net
Make sure the header of the email contains the following: ship name / class name
Note that you do not have to be a member of the http://www.tacticalwargames.net boards to enter this competition but in order to vote you will have to sign up.
We will compile a gallery of the entrants which will be available online. This gallery will remain as a permanent fixture to the site, and so you will be able to browse the pictures in the future. Please note, I am sure that there will be a rush in the last 24 hours before the end of this competition, therefore please don't wait until the last few hours if you can avoid it.
The Voting
Voting will take place here on these boards. Entries will be split into heats. The winner of each heat will go through to the next round until a winner is determined. Please note that entries will be placed into heats in the order in which they are submitted here. Note: having multiple entries from one participant will be spread.
The voting period lasts 7 days.
The voting results will be shown after the poll ends.
Possible tiebreakers depend upon number of entries.
Note that the ship and/or class name will be shown, anonymous upon request otherwise name will be shown.
Additional Rules
All decisions are final, any prizes are non-negotiable and the competition organizers reserve the right to remove competition entries or request that they are resubmitted or altered. We will hopefully never need this stuff, but just in case...

A question: can I present a fleet as a whole in the fleet entry and each ship as a single in the relative entry?
(eg. if i present a Grand curiser and 4 cruisers as "fleet", can I present the same Grand cruiser as "Capital ship"?

No, not needed. An email with the picture is enough to participate.

Im thinking the best bet right now is to hope for the best and there may be some available still once GC is done this year. If there is nothing left or if theres nothing the winner would like it will probably be best if they get with me directly and work out an alternate prize. There are certainly plenty of options for compareable escort size ships from other manufacturers.

spellscape and afterimagedan, can you do the people among us who are not as epicly skilled as you two (such as me ::) ) a favour and NOT enter something in EVERY category so we at least have a slight chance to win anything? ;D
otherwise it won't really be worth the effort painting up ships and fleets just to recieve a massive buttkick by your epic works.... :o ;D

Anyone who has won a top prize could be put into a separate EXPERT division. This puts all the really good painters in a very competitive bracket and allows not so great painters and newbs to still be a part of the competition...

Hi, I'm new to this forum and GothiComp, though I have quite a few BFG ships. I love seeing the wonderfully painted ships, but it's also way intimidating for someone like me without such awesome painting skills to enter any kind of contest. Still, I'm glad there is such an event :)
My question is where are the entries posted? The pictures? I'm a bit daft and cannot find them.

If I submit a single escort ship now, would I be able to include that ship as part of a squadron in a later competition? If I touch-up the paint, is it still ineligible in future competitions?
Just trying to decide if I should drop it in now, or wait until next year when it as some squadron friends and maybe the squadron code.

Yes another fleet and ships will come this evening. I hope i made some pictures this morning that arent too bad. Tired it like two times the last two days at evening and i just couldnt get pictures who werent blurry or flashy.
This morning i again made several with better light but i wasnt able to take a look at them. Had to go to work. So hopefully i can send them in later today.

Next year the fleet will be finished for the fleet entry. I held off because the matching Oberon and the lunars in her squadron are still unfinished. Here's one of them:

May i ask if you somehow converted the images for uploading? Just ask because i have the feeling that my not so perfect but ok pictures became even worse.

Hi. I try to keep any picture adjustments to an absolute minimum. This year, I have made at most two alterations;
- Pictures which were above the regulation sizes have been downsized to the maximum size within these rules.
- Pictures not submitted as .jpg were converted to this format.
Could you check that your picture was not above the competitions max picture size? If it wasnt, then let me know and I will take a look at this.

Hey horizon already contacted me. It seems the problem was, that i send in pngs. Wasnt aware that the better format would be worse :-D
However i already send him jpgs and he said that is is going to ask you if you can exchange them.

Just got my prize. Took a beating on the trip over but it is still workable. Weird thing is that a couple of years ago I sold my large scale chaos cruiser on ebay and this one is a casting off of that one. I recognise the modifications I made to it. Its like the return of the originals offspring or something. Weird but cool.
