Title: An email from GW
Post by: Gothmog Lord of Balrogs on May 10, 2013, 06:54:40 AM
So I placed a very large BFG order the other day to ensure I got just a little more (especially for the Chaos fleet my brother is giving me) before it is gone forever.

Today I got this email:
We are currently packing the order you placed with Games Workshop. However; one or more of the item(s) you ordered are currently out of stock. We have decided to hold your order because those out of stock items are due in within the next 1 - 2 weeks.

So somehow, somewhere they have to ability to procure some of these kits some how. I wonder if it is just consolidation of their international warhousing and product availability to do so though.

I had the same thing happen to me, i ordered a retribution battleship when it was still in stock, but it had ran out by the dispatch date

i rang customer services and they said they'd get one cast for me

i think what their doing is make enough extras to fill the orders that have been made (example 5 in stock 7 ordered, make 2 more), however their not re-stocking

Makes sense. I wonder what the packaging will be.

not really bothered about the packaging, main thing is that their willing to make extra models for those that have ordered them when in stock only to be told that they won't get them because their no longer in stock

From GW CS orders placed while items were still in stock should be getting honoured. UK staff were, apparently, casting a load of Eldar today (which I'm relieved at as I'd dropped £100 on an eldar fleet).

These are just being done to fulfill orders placed, there's no intention of continuing to make them past whatever point the miniatures are pulled (e.g. you can order a void stalker today, but not a repulsive).

I'll laugh if they make more in sg sales this month than they have made on the hobbit
Title: Re: An email from GW

that woulld be funny, i don't think i'd be suprised either. maybe the surge in sales might make them re-release it and market it better

if it did make more than the hobbit i don't think they'd say anything seeing as its being kept ratehr hushed up

Which, when they sell (if they sell) might just showcase the incompetence of their current execs enough to force it to become a hobby company again.

Marketing it at all would be a nice change.  ::)

They used to market it in the old WD, but very little.

I feel the internet age would make it easier.

As well if they weren't called Specialist Games. Specialist makes people feel they are niche and not for most peole. Expansion Games would be a better title IMO.

Or you know dont play them off like a seperate thing at all. Epic 40k says it all: 40k EPIC!!! but once you put it under another name "specialist games" its suddenly no longer Epic 40k its just Epic, some game with little things that somewhat resemble a different more mainstream game. The same can be said for most of the other games too. Unless youve been around awhile and know that these are a part of the universe theres nothing to really tie it in and by putting them under a seperate header they have confused the issue even more.

well, now GW really killed it.

i placed a large order some weeks ago, and when the stuff arrived, half of it was missing.

i paid for everything, but recieved only half of the stuff.
there was no email or notification what's going on with the other ships. two weeks i waited, then today i went to my local GW store and talked to the store guy about it. he called some people, and the result is:

i am not getting my ships.
and if i had't asked about it, they would not have given me my money back.

what.

Basically, they rate companies by business practices and ethics and it is a big deal in the business world to be accredited by them.

Same

Eventually they will have a Customer Service Crisis if they just let them sit indefinately. I wonder if they are hoping people call and cancel things (like their email graciously offers)

I have had an incident in the past where they were no longer able to provide a product I ordered. I got the Gamer's Edition of 40k for 5th ed and they shipped it but it didn't deliver and got sent back to them incredibly damaged. By then, they were completely out, so they sent a new rule book and markers (Only the ammo box was completely destroyed), I believe they refunded me some AND they offered me a product of equal value, so I got a Free Baneblade.

If that happens again I am going to get a Realm of Battlegame board out of this. But I plan to stick it out and get what I ordered.

If they eventually get to you and say "sorry, we are out of those" you should say "make me some." The correct thing for a business to do is make them unavailable on the store when they are out of them. If they say they can't make you some, then say "why didn't you take it off your webstore?" Or "why not?" Push them a bit and they may still have a way to make you one. Who knows. They should have reviewed their stock before starting to discontinue something.

Why didn't you officially announce a that the range was being discontinued on your site is another highly appropriate question.

I am going to insist I get what I ordered, even if they have to wrap up and send me the painted studio models. ;)
But seriously, I am going to call next week and find out about what is being done. Probably on Tuesday since it is memorial day weekend.
The biggest issue may be that there may no longer be molds for certain models.

And that's another reason to not sell something you don't have or can't produce anymore.

Exactly, but doesn't change the fact them may already have. And if this ends up being the case for me I will file a complaint with the BBB, post on my blog BIG Time about it (try and get BoLS coverage maybe), then try and get other consumers to do the same. And when I am talking to customer service, I will keep asking to talk to the next manager up.

I had received an incomplete order a couple of weeks ago - the money hadn't been taken for the missing stuff.

I emailed, said I wasn't happy and asked when they were going to honour my order. A week later I had a reply saying they were going to cast some more for me but it could take up to 28 days.

Your situation sounds a lot worse than mine so email them and ask them what they're going to do about it - you may be surprised. If you haven't complained directly to whoever sold you the stock they don't even have a chance to fix it...
Title: Re: An email from GW
Post by: Dragon Lord on May 26, 2013, 05:24:21 PM
What I do in situations like that is use an increasing frequency of emails until they solve the problem, first once a week, then every couple of days, then every day.  Eventually the shear volume of emails becomes more of a nuisance for them than fixing the problem.

I called and the US CS guy said they were casting up all of the ordered product in the UK and will ship it to GWUS for customer shipment and that we will get everything that we were successful in placing orders for.

YMMV

I have a simular situation. I used the UK site and my order didn't appear anywhere. I emailed them and they said to call, so I called and they told me they couldn't find my order, and had my email fowarded to the UK. I then called the UK Branch and they said it will take 28 days, plus the time it takes to ship. I hope they honor that.

Also have a delayed order placed with the GW Australia webshop. The order was just sitting there for a week, so I emailed them and got this reply:

Quote
In regards to order xxxxx.
Unfortunately we’re out of stock of Eldar Aconite Frigates, Eldar Nightshade Destroyers and BG Wraithship Cruiser at the moment. According to our UK office we should be getting more in stock sometime towards the middle to late part of July \. In turn this is holding up you order as we only ship orders that we can completely fulfill.

I elected to wait for restock. Fingers crossed. :P

Maybe GW is playing silly buggers with us. Maybe they're using the fear of running out of stock as an impetus to shift sales along. Then when we're all begging for more models they'll just run up another batch. Probably with a price hike.

DreadSpace Fleet!

You get one imperial light cruiser, an eldar battleship, three tau escorts, and a marine strike cruiser to play against a chaos battleship, Ork kill kroozer, Dark Eldar light cruiser, and a squadron of Necron jackals!

Evil Totally Not Blackbeard the Chaos Lord has assembled a fleet of piratical raiders to storm the Omala sector!  It's up to the dashing Admiral Nelson and his disparate alliance to stop Blackbeard before he succeeds in ravaging the sector and ascends to daemonhood!  Rulebook contains 4 scenarios, none of which actually pertain to the boxed game's metaplot.

Once BFG was a boxed game, with add-ons, called SpaceFleet.

I can imagine GW doing these ' tricks'  with all Specialist Games. Creating a yearly hype.

As long as the ships from such a boxed game are in scale and it provides neat scenarios it might be cool.

If they eventually get to you and say "sorry, we are out of those" you should say "make me some."

after some screwing around with the german store guy and the german customer service who said they have no idea and can't help me, i decided to jump into the cold water and called GW UK.

wasn't easy, me being a german, but yeah.
was worth it. i'm getting my models. did what you said: "MAKE ME SOME!" ;)
