Title: Additional Ship Compendium 2.0 (for use with BFG:R)
Post by: Gothmog Lord of Balrogs on May 22, 2013, 11:48:13 PM
So with BFG:R approaching finalization, the additional ship's compendium should be updated and expanded to be compatable with BFG:R and to reflect the additions to the different fleets.

EDIT: NOTE THIS IS JUST THE INITIAL DEVELOPMENT. THIS THREAD IS FOR GENERATING A LIST OF SHIPS TO DICUSS AND DEVELOP OVER TIME.

IF THIS LIST RECEIVED GENERAL APPROVAL, WE CAN GO ONTO ACTUALLY WORKING ON THE SHIPS- STARTING WITH IN.

Below is the list of vessels I pulled from the Book of Nemesis, RT:Battlefleet Koronus and the original Additional Ship's Compendium that I believe should be included in the 2.0.  I have scoured Warp Rift and IA Vol 10 as well

Additions made after op are in blue. Removals are in red. Ships in green are in progress or completed on their respective thread.

Imperial Dreadnought (IN)- Needs a class name. Maybe Abyss Class and make it the same as the Furious Abyss
Invincible Class Fast BB (IN)
Nemesis Class BB (IN)
Reprisal Class BB (IN)
Terra Class BB (IN) (my original creation on the original forums, before the Book of Nemesis)
Majestic Class BB (IN)
High Conveyor- BB/Transport (IN/Admech) (IA vol 10)
Annhilator Class GC (IN/CH) (my recent creation)
Goliath Class GC (IN/CH) (my recent creation)
Furious Class GC (IN/CH)

Ragnarok Assault BB (SM)- In WR it was just Assault BB, I added Ragnarok based off the famous vessels
Charybdis Class GCHeresy Era BB (SM/CH) (by Grim Dark Bits)  Maybe make this the Charybdis or Vindictive Class Grand Cruiser?
Ironwolf- Unique GC (SM Space Wolves)- According to Warp Rift 14, this is a Vidictive Class GC
 Vindictive Class GC (SM/CH)
The Nicor- Unique GC (SM) -  (IA vol 10) According to IA 10 it is a Charibdys Class Grand Cruiser

The Night Hag- Unique CA (SM, RT, CH)(IA vol 10)
Fist of Russ- Unique CA (SM Space Wolves)
Heresy Era SC (SM/CH) (by Grim Dark Bits) (Meh, the model matches the actual SC too closely in terms of armament to justify other rules).
Dire Wolf Assault SC- In WR14 it is just an Assault SC, I added Dire Wolf based off the famous ships. Normal SC in BFG:R can perform the same role
Hawking Class Exploration CA (RT/Ad Mech)
Ambition Class CA (RT)

FLEET LISTS
Maelstrom Zone Loyalists (SM) (IA vol 10)
Maelstrom Zone Successionists (SM) (IA vol 10)
Battlefleet Corribra (IN) (Official BFG:R Fleet List)
Space Wolves (SM)
Tau Gue'la (Tau)
Battlefleet Limante (IN)
Battlefleet Pacificus- The Grand Fleets of Hydraphur (IN)
Battlefleet Kar Duniash (IN)
Gilded Fleets of Voss (IN)
Project Distant Darkness (Tau)
Rak'Gol
Chaos Pact Mix of CH, DE and Ork. This is questionable. I'd like to add it to give more Xenos type options, as well, those fleets don't get to benefit from reserves like Imperial Fleets do...

I say we break this down part by part, first looking at IN starting with BB and working to escorts before moving onto Chaos, so on and so forth.

Might include the IA X ships too, since most people don't know them.

Agreed. I had forgotten about them. I wonder is the IA 3 second ed will have the Tau fleet in it still.
Maybe the BFG:R SM document should be updated instead though (at least with the fleet lists?). Thoughts people?

Here are the ships anyways:

Vanguard Cruiser (SM)
High Conveyor (IN/Admech)
The Night Hag- Unique CA (SM, RT, CH)
The Nicor- Unique GC (SM)
The Raptorus Rex- Unique BB (SM)

Weirdly, the reprint of IA 3 will have the Tau fleet in it.  This may be due to the book being in production already before the decision about BFG was made, or simply an oversight.

Probably. Which really only goes to confirm that the pulling of SG was a kinda on the fly decision and not something that was planned or thought out, otherwise they would've know about it for a while.

Long Serpent is already in BFG 2010 as Mercury.

Added the Grim Dark Bits Heresy BB and Heresy SC. Figured we can make specific rules for these great models.

I feel like there isn't enough Xenos on the list

Well IN has historically gotten most of the love, then Chaos, then everything else.

Agreed on the Xenos part. I also don't think the Shapeways SC needs rules, considering it is a strike cruiser already, which has tons of options.

Personally, I think adding some optional lists into the compendium would be sweet. Battlefleet Corribra comes to mind.

Any ideas for working in more xenos? Perhaps alternative rules for using Firestorm Armada proxies?

And I still need to look through all the Warp Rift magazines and see if there is anything that should be added.

I thought giving the Shapeways ships alternative rules may be good, since they clearly don't look like 6+ all around SM strike cruisers. A chance to really develope the heresy. There could be some classes listed in the books that aren't in the game we could assign to them. Just a thought.

Agreed on the Fleets. Battlefleet Corribra for sure.

I am also thinking a Gue'la fleet for Tau, and I still like the idea of an Arbites/System defense fleet.

The cartouch is already in BFGR necron list. Wasn't the Emasculator offiacialised as the Inferno? Had a similar load out iirc.

I am also thinking some sort of Chaos Pact combining Chaos/Orks/DE with some sort of "strange happenings" type of disadvantage.

DE don't ally with Chaos. If some fiction says they do, it shouldn't.

Hey,
I agree with Sigoroth. Dark Eldar will only ally with Corsair/Craftworld Eldar. And even that one is fragile.
However, Eldar races might steer a battle between other forces if that is what their future tells the to do.

DE would never ally with craftword. Just Corsairs. And even then, they'd rather prey on other eldar to get their spirit stones and stave off their demise.

And the most definately wheel and deal with Chaos. They even have their own warp beasts! Both APOC and 6th ed have them ally with Chaos (albiet as desperate allies, but they are desperate allies with all their allies, more so because there is always double crossing). They just don't mess with Slaneesh. They even did in the Gothic War (a direct result of which was the involvement of Corsair eldar at the better of Gethsemane). Several chaos lords have employed their own mandrakes.

Basically, whoever is most likely to lead them to more slaves or an outcome that best meets their own ends.

The fleet would have so sort of uneasy alliance rule that would see the vessels all potentially turn on themselves. And the fleet would likely have no Marks of Chaos or Daemonships, just undivided rules.

Dark Eldar and Craftworld do ally. Really. It is kin, even if they despise eachother they still feel better then all others.

Just been perusing the 1.4 ships compendium and found the Hawking class exploration cruiser. Makes a good addition for RT and Admech fleets, if you want to add it. I'm assuming you have the 1.4?

Cool, didn't even know about this. That is awesome. Will add.

This overall project is going to take some time isn't it ;)

Oh well, it is worth it and if it becomes a valuable resource for years to come, that is awesome.

There was some interesting stuff with the Rak'Gol on the board a whiles back. Perhaps gathering up some of that work for inclusion is in order. I too would like to see more Xenos stuff.

If you can find it and put in in here, I'll add it to the list. As well, feel free to do a developement thread on it (like I am doing with IN). That way, more can get processed and this can all get done faster.

Bringing this over from the Imperial Navy specific thread. It is my intended solution for ship limitations of ASC 2.0 ships.

I planned on leading off the ASC 2.0 with a foreword explaining that these ships are "unofficial" ship's, developed by the community for compatibility specifically with BFG:R. ASC 2.0 contains ships based off multiple sources, both official and unofficial themselves. As such, using these ships requires your opponents permission. It is recommended that these ship's be incorporated into fleets using reserve rules. How ever since certain classes may be impractical to include using reserves (such as BBs in smaller games) combined with the fact they are unofficial and already require opponents permission to use, players can feel free to use however many as they want in a fleet, though a rough 1 unofficial ship for every 3 official ships is still a good guideline to follow. However, players are encouraged to completely ignore any restrictions for special scenarios, campaigns or just plain fun (Unique character ships are still 0-1 though!) ASC 2.0 will also include some fun and fluffy but unofficial fleet lists. These lists WILL have built in restrictions and it is recommended that these be adhered to and other unofficial ships only be included using the reserve rules. Any special/rehashed scenarios included in ASC 2.0 should be followed as listed, but players are encouraged to modify and change up scenarios to meet their own desires and needs.
Bottom line: Everything is unofficial and meant for fun! There are some good guides lines that are recommended to follow for fair play, but if you and your opponent are up for it, anything is possible! ENJOY!

As for using the 40k allies chart, I think players can decide on their own whether to do things like that or not for campaigns/scenarios on their own, and it would prevent specific things in BFG like using Chaos ships as SM venerable BBs.

What is/where can I find stuff on the Hellbringer?

And does anyone have any stuff on teh Rak'Gol. I found a few pictures of their ships, but that is about it.

I had to remove the IA vol 10 stuff. Since the rules aren't available from FW online, I am not comfortable putting them here.

Safer for now.  You don't really want a call from GW's legal department.  Given how GW has handled similar situations in the past regarding their written IP, I'm not surprised they're flatly refusing for now.  We'll see if & when they reproduce IA10 or post up the rules separately online.

I have IA10 and was curious how people regarded the loyalist list in it. Albeit i'm hardly experienced at all in BFG but the list seemed pretty broad, kind of 'take whatever you want' (in that you can take a retribution and any other battleship as well as battlebarges, any cruisers as well as strike cruisers and any escorts).

It definately is. I think it was made by people who don't really play BFG and with the explicit idea of grand fleet engagements, and for use only against the succesionists list.

And this is part of why I wanted to modify it for ASC 2.0

Looks like the military/semi-military ships from Battlefleet Koronus were picked up, but not the additional transports:

Carrack Class
Goliath Class factory ship (obviously a modified Mechanicus Ark, although the dimensions listed indicate it is a cruiser sized vessel)
Universe Mass Conveyor

Would like to suggest adding a complete selection of transports/factory ships from small to very large. As a new player I have not used transports yet, but have seen a number of convoy scenarios where different classes of transport ship might be interesting. Would also like to see them added for completeness and to expand the universe a bit, since there will obviously be a very wide range of transport sizes across the 40K universe (there is even one bigger than the Universe).

Basic transport: Existing GW or FW model
Heavy transport: Exisiting FW model
Light Cruiser sized transport (Carrack Class, as it appears to be based on an CL hull)
Imperial cruiser sized transport (not the Conquest Class Star Galleon which is a special case)
Imperial BB sized transport
Really big transport (Universe Mass Conveyor)
