Hi,
A quick question for the collective wisdom from tonight's game. An undead brigade moved within range of my cannons. Assume a&b are cavalry units, c&d chariots, whilst X represent my cannons.

So I shoot, and deal 2 hits to the nearest unit (a) and 2 hits to the unit behind (c) on the bounce. No casualties are inflicted.
We come to drive-back resolution. He chooses to resolve unit 'a' first, and decides that unit 'c' will elect not make way, which ordinarily would confuse unit 'a'. However, as they are undead, and immune to confusion, this is negated, so unit 'a' does not move. Unit 'c' is then driven back as normal.
Is this correct?
Seems counter-intuitive to me, in that drive-backs are automatic and confused conditions incidental ???.

I'd say both are driven back. Only if A has to move a greater distance than C can C choose not to make way. So essentially I'd say both units move the distance that was rolled for unit C.

If no hits are inflicted, then you shouldn't roll for any drivebacks...
If no hits were inflicted on 'c', then yes, c can elect not to make way, and 'a', which would otherwise be confused in another army, is not affected confusion-wise b/c undead don't suffer from confusion. This is one of the advantages of the undead.
If casualties are inflicted on both 'a' and 'c', then you'll drive them both back, b/c there's no unit to stop 'c' from getting driven back. If 'a' is driven back farther than 'c', then 'c' can prevent 'a' from being driven back farther than 'c'. (I'm getting a headache from all this a and c business). Your opponent's solution seems a bit "gamey": there are a lot of events in WM that depend on sequence, but I don't think this should be one of them.

My logic says that "a" and "c" should be driven back. It is a little awkward the use of lack of confusion of the undead to take advantage deliberatly from the player.
But I do not see illegally or rule break in the decision of the undead player.
Hoping to read more comments,
cheers

Sorry guys,
I read Capt Piett answer a little quick (sorry Capt!) and I think he have the clue of the situation. I agree with them.

The undead player can decide in which order the drivebacks take place, so its legal to let A run against C and then only make the driveback for unit C.
-
Guthwine is quite right, the order of resolution is up to the owning player so letting the front unit bump into the rear one and stay still is perfectly possible.
p29 of the living rulebook, Col 1, DRIVING BACK ENEMIES, para 1: "The player whose units are being driven back can decide the order in which drive backs are resolved."
One advantage of Undead troops is the option to let them be held in place by rear ranks without a chance of confusion.

Thanks for the clarification folks. Game-wise it seems like a bit of a cynical manipulation. Fluff-wise it seems reasonable that Undead brigades are much harder to disrupt with missile fire.

cynical pah.... how else can my awesome undead come to grips with the anoying shooters.... :) Not that they got there anyway....
