Hey gang having a game against Thane Aquilon in a couple hours, have not played in a while and had a quick question, which when resolved I will delete this post.
How big of a field do you use for 1500pts again, and what is the normal terrain density?
-
No rules on hand but the space builder app has a 2 x 3 grid of 60cm x 60cm squares so 120cm by 180cm. For terrain density it is randomly generated. I suggest looking up the app It is pretty cool
-
Thanks a bunch bud, this will be useful!
-
I almost always play on a 6' x 4' board.
-
Me too. 6x4 for the most part. For lower pt games like 1000 I have played on a 4x4.
-
What terrain density do you guys use? One per quadrant? Two?
MY ABS ARE SO RIPPED, YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW!
I uh...i'm so sorry.
-
And now I WANT YOU TO BLOW UP THE OCEAN !
Sorry, I could'nt resist a Mr. Torgue reference. ;D
To answer the thread, we usually play on a 6x4. I find a 4x4 table a bit too small, but that may be because I play Eldar. For density, we often use the "cut table in six parts, roll a d6 for each, on 4+ there's something" method from the rulebook.
-
I do 2'x2' squares usually with each square having something on 4+ as in the book or 3+ if we really want a good bit of terrain.
-
So on average you will have roughly 3 sections with terrain, with one of them being multiple asteroids/dust clouds? Awesome, I have just been getting my ass handed to me by Thane's Eldar recently and just wanted to make sure it is just players skill rather than some other factor I can blame it one ;D
Also,
I WAS TOO BUSY SUPLEXING A SHARK WEARING A BOLO TIE! YOU MAY ASK WHO WAS WEARING THE TIE, ME OR THE SHARK? ANSWER: YES!!!
Wow...this is going to stop I promise.
-
If your playing MSM terrain greatly favors the Eldar, its a bit more balanced with MMS though. Either way I find the game dull without a good bit of terrain to play with. Check out Dan's blog for a list of additional terrain options if you want to mix it up some too!

Thanks for the resource! While were at it, any tactics tips for IN versus Eldar? I want to keep an all comers list, but if you guys have any counter tactics I'll take 'em!
-
Well the basics really. Keep everything tight, use your attack craft; light cruisers; and frigates to cover you, load up on long range weapons. If you have even the slightest chance to hit them jump on it and use your orders, hitting with half strength is better than not at all. If they're ducking into the asteroids follow them! I cant tell you how many times I've surprised someone in MSM by going AAF into an asteroid field and taking the hits on the chin just so I could shoot them back, at close range no less :D. For the most part I just try to stick to the basics though and let them come to me.

Sounds like good stuff, although we are playing MMS not MSM. My biggest problem seems to be hurting them, because eldar craft are much harder to kill then their imperial equivalents. The escorts can take a beating and keep coming whilst the light cruisers are easy to cripple when finally brought to terms, but that never changes the fact that their escorts just won't die. :'(
No seriously those things are indestructible. I fired a nine strength torpedo volley from a retribution into an unbraced CL. Result? 1 damage. The 18 battery and 3 lances? Killed one escort and blew another shield. And that's after firing both NC's and Lances from my two Mars CB at that escort squadron, which succeeded in blowing a couple shields but not destroying any. This is pretty typical, so I obviously need to figure out a better way of killing these things. Maybe if I manage to bomb them...
-
Are you playing the rules correctly? ;) because that is excessive. My eldar ships die from such firepower with ease...
-
@horizon As far as I know I am: they get bracketed saves versus lances based on range, force re-rolls on nova cannon hits, left column shifts on the gunnery table and have turrets that hit on 3+.
Although while were at it, since you pioneered the system, could you explain how their fighters work? My understanding for resilience is that usually resilient ordnance gets a 4+ save to try to stay in game, but only once a turn. Thus if you run a thunderhawk into two fury markers you will automatically get destroyed, because even if you make your first save you will automatically trade with the second. But if I understand the Eldar phrasing correctly they get one save per ordnance marker rather than per wave? So if an Eldar fighter marker runs into a wave of two IN fighters and two bombers, it will have to make two saves: if it makes neither the wave loses a fighter, if it loses the second the wave loses both fighters and if it succeeds both it destroys the whole wave?
It's strange...when playing Warhammer 40k I used to be an absolute beast at 5++ saves. As in I litteraly made like 2/3 of them every game. But then suddenly I sucked at rolling 5+, and having got back into BFG I remembered with horror how important it is to be able to get those 5-6 ;D
There may be some bad luck involved as well. Only made 3 in 28 brace saves... ::)
Also, do you guys use the deployments from the book typically, or do you have a different standardized one?
ex. For Fleet Actions, do you use the whole cross/sphere/wedge thing?
-
If one Eldar marker runs into an enemy wave it may only make one roll.
If two Eldar markers run into an enemy wave it may make two rolls.
And against bad dice rolling no rule can be written.
Just to note: Under 15cm the holofield has no effect vs weapon batteries/lances.
Depends, if we play the scenario we use the official guidelines usually.
-
If one Eldar marker runs into an enemy wave it may only make one roll.
If two Eldar markers run into an enemy wave it may make two rolls.
So each elder marker have a number of saves equal to the number of markers in the wave? Or does "it" above refer to the enemy wave, not the eldar marker?
-
@horizon The way you ahve it written is sending my mind into fits. Straight up, how does Eldar "resilience" differentiate from other resilient craft.
-
They work just like any other resilient craft.
