Title: Necron Fleet List Clarification
Post by: Islacrusez on July 19, 2013, 02:08:13 AM

So I thought those Scythe class harvest ships look nifty, and their shape lends itself nicely to scratch building. Maybe I should field a fleet of those! And then I looked at the rules, and the fleet list. What?

As far as I can tell, Necrons max out their fleet at 3820 points. Why is there a restriction on how many of each ship you can have, instead of x of ship type a to get 1 of ship type b, and y of ship type b to get 1 of ship type c like everyone else does?

And can field one tombship for every scythe, but can only have one anyway? Huh?

Am I reading the rules wrong or was someone smoking the funny grass when they wrote them?

The only limit on Tombships is 1/ Scythe. There is a limit of 1 Sepulchre but that doesn't restrict the Tombs.

Ah, I see. However, that still leaves the question of why is there a maximum on all the other ships. This means Necrons still cap out (a lot higher mind you, 6320 by my calculations), and you can't really have a support-heavy fleet. Why is there a restriction on fielding a single tombship supported by say 8 scythes? Or even 3 scythes supported by swarms of raiders?

I was going to say 3 scythes by 6 shrouds, but I realised those things are kinda scary.

Hey,
24 Raiders can be considered a huge swarm.
Being worth 1080pts.

But, yes, Necrons are capped on all parts. Not that I ever will play such a battle but loosening the escort restriction wouldn't be a problem imo.
The strength of the Necrons are the Tombship + Scythes.
