Title: proxy ideas: Vampire Counts
Post by: athensfantasy on August 04, 2013, 01:51:14 PM
As many of you know, since GW stopped producing 10mm figures, I have started making lists that map warmaster troop types to miniatures that are widely available today and posted them on my blog.

for Vampire Counts here is my list and feel free to either send comments on my blog, or use this thread to suggest improvements, alternatives etc

http://www.athens-fantasy.gr/2013/07/vampire-counts-warmaster-with-non-gw-miniatures/

Skeletons
Kallistra Skeleton Warriors (301)
Magister Militum Skeletons with Hand Weapons (FSK001)
Magister Militum Skeletons with Spears (FSK002)

Zombies
Kallistra Zombie horde (307)

Ghouls
Pendraken mixed ghouls (AC24)

Grave Guard
Have not found anything that is perfectly suitable.
You basically need a way to distinguish from standard skeleton units.
So I am looking for either heavily armoured skeletons or perhaps using dismounted knights and converting/painting them as undead.

Ethereal Host
Kallistra Tormented Spirits (308)

Black Knights
Ideally we would have some heavily armored undead knights. Until then the standard Skeleton Cavalry from Kallistra could be used:
Kallistra Skeleton Cavalry 302
Or just use any medieval knights from historicals and paint it in an undead scheme?

Dire Wolves
Copplestone Castings Giant wolves (TM8)

Fell Bats
Pendraken Swarm of Bats (AC12)
Chariot 15mm Swarm of Bats (GOB02)

Vampire Lord General
Copplestone Castings Evil Characters (TM9)

Vampire Hero
Copplestone Castings Evil Characters (TM9)

Necromancer
Copplestone Castings Evil Characters (TM9)

Winged Nightmare
Copplestone Castings Evil Characters (TM9)
15mm.co.uk Wraith Lord on Fell Beast (HOT74) just use the Fell Beast.
Splindered Light Minis 15mm Skeleton Griffins – add your own rider.
Perhaps there are many other 15-28mm options for this. Feel free to add your comment.

Black Coach Chariot
Pendraken 17/18 cent. carriage (SYW10) as suggested at specialist-arms.com forum post

I was wondering whether this would make a suitably over the top Winged Nightmare or giant dragon like figure to use as a General?

It might be too big but I don't know how big it is in real life.

There's also the new Vargheists:

But I think they look too smooth and humanoid to use in 10mm.

Varghulf seems great to me as winged nightmare! wow such a nice model

Problem is it's on a 50mm square base so might have to squeeze it onto a 40mm base.

With the WM official range vanishing I think people are going to be more forgiving with people proxying 12mm 15mm and 28mm stuff especially for monster figures.

I want to give a shoutout to http://www.magistermilitum.com which has a very nice range of some regular undead zombies, ghouls and ghosts that (hopefully) fit well with the warmaster aestethic.

Dire Wolves : Polar Fox Wolves (SG05 (http://www.polarfox.info/Wolves/p2627799_12471944.aspx))

Not sure if any of their Ta-Kem line are suitable VC proxies, but would like to see Polar Fox fill in some other VC blanks too ;)  (In the future perhaps?!)

I think those could pass as Grave Guard:

although ideally they would have more armor and stuff ;)

https://laranminiatures.bigcartel.com (https://laranminiatures.bigcartel.com) are worth consideration here for the heavy cavalry/black knights and the heavy infantry/grave guard.

Long shot but does anyone own a D&D Attack Wing Dracolich?
Would this be way too big as an undead dragon?
I love the model and sort of need something big and impressive to Dwarf my Griffin Knights (mounted on Gryph-hounds)

I had thought of it when the range appeared, but i have never seen them in front of a WM stand. But the idea remain to test. It could be a wonderfull surprise.
