Title: [BFG] Magnetizing ships, alternative method

I'd like to show you my magnetizing method. It's focused on saving some magnets and space on the ship's hull. You might find it interestingl:

First of all I glue the magnets to the cruiser:

After that, I look for some pieces of a Coca-cola can (because of the metallic composition):

Then I cut it into smaller pieces (be careful, it's very sharped :o ) and I glue they to the cruiser's weapon options:

Now you can see how the pieces are hold in their place and replace it to make some different cruisers:

For metal ships you still have to drill the hull and glue on the outher part but you use less magnets and you change the width of the second magnet for the paper-like can piece.

Post by: Comrade-K-Rad on August 20, 2013, 12:59:20 AM: I generally use steel wire on my batteries and put the magnets in as you do. The can seems like it would be a bit easier though, thanks for posting.

Post by: timdp on August 20, 2013, 04:35:24 AM: Interesting, but where do you live? Have not seen steel Coke cans in the US for a VERY long time. US Coke cans are aluminum and non-magnetic.

Magnet costs on ebay are about 2.5 US cents each shipped for 1/8" x 1/16" magnets.

You can try with other cans (beer or other drinks...) but as you said, it musn't be 100% aluminium.

Been considering this one myself; just wasn't sure if it would be strong enough to hold. Might go this route for the weapon packs I'm creating, since at least one is far too thin to put a magnet in.
