Title: Greek Warmasters
Post by: athensfantasy on September 02, 2013, 09:23:52 PM
A place to record fotos and battle reports from the warmaster demo games taking place in Greece, in the effort to spread the game to new players (and have fun in the process)

So I am currently in Athens for vacation and we met up with fellow forum member "Meraklis" at Fantasy Shop at Exarchia for a 2k game between Orcs and High Elves.

A disaster for my Orcs.... The High Elves where outnumbered but took advantage of the terrain to pick their battles.
And even what in theory could have been a tight encounter between 2 blocks of cavalry on one flank, ended up as a hot high elf knife piercing through orc butter....

the foto is from the pre deployment display of the 2 armies. I think Meraklis took some photos of the action that we might be able to upload soon!

The eagles having 3 hits each and a 6+ save mean they are surprisingly effective at distracting the enemy!

did I hear my name?

ah yes! pictures!

First of all let me say that it was a very fun game although after a particular moment the odds were clearly on my side... eagles and a dragon rider on one flank and silver helms with infantry support on the other side trapped the orc center and eventually fell on the flanks of their main battleline.
My center never saw combat ...

Initial development.

My silver helms are almost ready to charge home

while the orcs dont really know if the elves will reach them...

on both sides!
(http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee47/Meraklis/IMG_3663.jpg) (http://s235.photobucket.com/user/Meraklis/media/IMG_3663.jpg.html)

while the eagles reposition themselves for some wonderful flank charges!
(http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee47/Meraklis/IMG_3665.jpg) (http://s235.photobucket.com/user/Meraklis/media/IMG_3665.jpg.html)

and after the clamour of battle was over this is what the orcish flanks looked like
(http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee47/Meraklis/IMG_3666.jpg) (http://s235.photobucket.com/user/Meraklis/media/IMG_3666.jpg.html)
(http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee47/Meraklis/IMG_3675.jpg) (http://s235.photobucket.com/user/Meraklis/media/IMG_3675.jpg.html)

well I lost a unit of chariots on one flank and a unit of silver helms on the other but I completely controlled the two flanks at the end of turn 3 (I think..)

which eventually helped me to surround his center and call it for the day since the orcish army reached its break point of 11...

Overall a great game against a very good and old opponent. I am afraid I dont owe victory entirely on my manouvering but too a large extent to the orcs' inability to move at all!

Had his giant and chariots succeeded their command rolls things would have been much more tough for me.

Its such a pity that Athens_Fantasy no longer resides in Athens...Games are few and far between and the worst thing is that since GW withdrew its support for the specialist games its very hard to convince new gamers to join the ranks....

Until next time...

Really nice game, and really nice painted armies. It seems orc player has not too much luck with the command orders, sometimes happens. Playing with orcs are very unexpected... they are a lot of fun (but sometimes bit the dust with a big fumble)

Armies with high command are great and sometimes dominate the battlefield.

I played a chaos vs kislev game, and chaos forces pass over kislev so fast!. The game was 2 chaos armies vs 2 kislevite armies. In turn 2 one kislev army had reached the breakpoint... wow what a bloodbath!  :D Command rolls (and command decisions) has a lot to do with the game. http://www.forum.specialist-arms.com/index.php?topic=5049.0
