Hey everyone.
I just recently picked up Warmaster again, the armies were still in boxes, but my terrain was sold/given away/lost.
Time to get building I'd say! At the moment I'm working on a heap of classic pre 1992 Orcs and Chaos, some of which I will use for Mordheim, and hopefully Chaos Warbands. (an Oldhammerer here indeed) and my Warmaster terrain.
At the moment, this is what I have built so far. A set of trees using wire, plaster and flock, hills made from tinfoil, clay and plaster, and some ruins made out of cardboard + plaster. Plaster ALL the things!

I made an order today at leven miniatures for a dozen or so medieval building in scale, to make a village and hamlet, also a few windmills and watchtowers there. :)
My attempts at making roads failed miserably, due to warping of the cardboard. It really doesn't work as a base/ Any suggestions on how to make roads (or rivers for that matter)?

Hi Tzigane,
Welcome to the fourm :)
Nice armies and terrain you have!
For roads, this is what I do:
Take a plastic thin sheet. It should be flexible but more or less stiff. I buy it in a local tools store.
Cut the sections, and cover it with glue and sand.
Once dried, paint with desired color and put grass on the borders.
Here are some pics of it, not very close to the road but you can get an idea.

Great terrain. I like the trees, are they bought or are hand made?
-
Thanks!
The trees are hand made, buying them in this quality is expensive, and they're easy to make once you get the hang of it.
And, alright, plasticard seems the way to go then for roads!
I also made a test for a hedgerow which turned out well, using scouring pad and a cardboard base with some sand.
-
I like the trees too, but mainly like the way you based them. Do you plan to repart them throughout all the game just for pleasure, or to group them to obtain forests ? Anyway, i really like the idea of independent trees like this. I may copy your idea :)
-
I'm not sure yet on how to use them. Probably group them together, and mentally draw lines between the bases to signify the borders. (also explicitly stating: "I move my troops in/outside this forest" helps I think. It's all abstract anyway.

Sneak preview: using moveable markers to denote the state of terrain is part of the feature in the sunday playtest session in November.......

And a small hamlet for my board!

Wow that looks pretty awesome, who makes that?
-
I ordered the buildings from Leven Miniatures.
Quite a great webshop, superfast postage and communication too. :)
-
Oh wow, Leven miniatures?
Those are only 6mm buildings - but actually they work really well to suggest a hamlet! Argh I'm torn, I might want to get some, now.
-
I probably should not tell you that they're not expensive either. ;D
-
Really nice
-
I'm not fond of the houses, too modern style for me. But i do like your painting job, mainly on mud. Really nice.
-
Thanks. I agree on the houses, the other buildings I have will fit somewhat more:

How are you mounting them, there? Plasticard?
And is that miliput you're using for hills?
Are those all Leven models?
-
Yes, I use plasticard to base them on, modelling clay from the toy store to make the hills, and Leven Miniatures buildings on them. I will use cheap wood-filler to smooth out the ground, then use normal basing stuff to create a texture (PVA-glue + sand)
-
This is the situation at the moment! + two white texturepainted boards.

Oh wow! It's looking good and dense!
-
That village is advancing quickly. :) Did the town major recalificate the terrain? becareful with the construction bubble :)
-
Thanks! This will be the whole urban terrain for now, after painting the houses I'll focus on the board, and terrain features like hills.

The trees look great. What flock did you use or is it clump foliage?
-
Thanks! The trees are indeed made with clump foliage, the hedgerows are made out of strips of green scouring pad. :)
-
I hadn't even noticed the hedgerows, I thought they were part of the cast model! They look great too!
One last thing on the trees; what did you use to texture the trunk? Is it just some milliput or something over the copper wire?
-
Ah yes. :)
The whole process for the trees was:
- make a twisted metal wire armament
- glue to plastcard base
- cover with wood filler and let dry
- PVA+ sand mixture to cover the base
- spray paint black, and paint the whole thing
- make a mixture of pva glue, water and flock and attach clumps of it with superglue to the trees.
-
It took a while, since I was rather busy, but I have finished the village:

Oh wow! Those brightened up my morning!
Those look really really characterful!
-
Looks really awesome.

Excelent. Maybe roofs are a little bit too blue for me, but the painting uality and choince of tunes are really good apart that. And it's only my opinion :)
Again, i like mud painting.
