Title: Help, Starting Eldar
Post by: AdmiralQuarren on September 30, 2013, 11:34:27 PM
Hey Guys, so it appears that I picked the best time ever to start collecting another fleet. Anyway after a large amount of time trawling eBay and bartertown I have managed to end up with the following for an corsair Eldar fleet:
2 Eclipse
1 Shadow
3 Aconites
2 Hellebores
5 Nightshades
5 Hemlock

The problem arises in that I have no experience with Eldar at all, this combined with the fact that most other lists I've found feature either void stalkers or aurora's are making list building a nightmare. So I am asking for you're help and guidance on what to take in both 750 and 1000point matches if possible.

Thanks in advance for any help

P.S. Me and my gaming group use the BFG:R rules, if that helps

So, Eldar MMS it is then. :)

750pts option 1:
1 ShadowEclipse
+ escorts (ex Hellebores)

750pts option 2:
Hellebores
+ escorts

1500pts
Shadow + Eclipse
+ escorts

Which escorts then?
Well Nightshades should be in int. Eldar torpedoes are excellent. Always use these....
Hemlocks are great with their lance
Aconites give great battery power to the fleet
Hellebores are though and add fighters.

How do these sound for lists then?

750pts
- Shadow
- 2 Nightshades, 1 Aconite
- 2 Nightshades, 1 Aconite
- 4 Hemlocks

OR

- Eclipse
- 3 Aconites
- 3 Nightshades
- 3 Hemlocks

And then for 1000pts
-Shadow
- Eclipse
- 2 Nightshades, 1 Aconite
- 3 Nightshades
- 3 Hemlocks
- Shadow Prince

Hey,
made a mistake in the 750pts list, should be an eclipse.
 :P

So your second option is pretty good for that value.

1000pts sounds okay, I would drop the shadow and add more escorts though. Or drop the Eclipse and add Hellebores.

So
- Eclipse
- 3 Aconites
- 5 Nightshades
- 5 Hemlocks
- Shadow Prince

Would that be good? I'm not sure about what to do with squadron composition though.

One non-list releated comment to pass on.  Be sure to read the Eldar special movement rules carefully, along with the targeting rules, and understand them.  Eldar are a tricky force to win with, and every game I have been victorious with them has involved sucessfully outmanuvering my opponent.  You need to maximize your own shooting and minimize his.

Hey, still true, Admiral Quarren is playing with BFG:R rules, which is Eldar MMS rules, which changed Eldar (to the better in terms of how to play, not on how to win/lose ;) )

I've got a copy of the Eldar MMS rules (v1.9) but I've not actually looked at them yet.  Have they made significant changes in the movement rules for Eldar (which was both their strength and their weakness in the original rules)?

Umm.. Yes :). MMS makes a rather large movement change :D. MMS stands for move move shoot as opposed to move shoot move as with the original version.

Huh!  I'll definitely need to start reading those and see how my Eldar tactics are going to need to change.  Thanks!
