Title: [BFG] currently Chaos test
Post by: radu lykan on October 01, 2013, 08:00:39 PM
for a while now i have been wondering what to do with my bfg spares, all those unused lances/flight decks etc
on my last hobby night i had a lance battery sitting next to a sword and it sparked an idea, with a bit of cutting and gluing maybe i could make an escort?

originally i had hoped to just use my spares and nothing else but engines were needed as was some more length
after a bit of messing about with the bits above i got this.

(http://i364.photobucket.com/albums/oo90/RADU_LYKAN/bfg/bfgesb1_zps3d4e90dd.jpg) (http://s364.photobucket.com/user/RADU_LYKAN/media/bfg/bfgesb1_zps3d4e90dd.jpg.html)

its obviously still very wip with just blu tac holding it together but what do people think? i need to detail the plain plasticard spine and am considering some form of shielding for the engines, something similar to the falchion.
here are some scale pics
(http://i364.photobucket.com/albums/oo90/RADU_LYKAN/bfg/bfgecomparison_zpsb23cf9cd.jpg) (http://s364.photobucket.com/user/RADU_LYKAN/media/bfg/bfgecomparison_zpsb23cf9cd.jpg.html)

also considering different armaments for it
(http://i364.photobucket.com/albums/oo90/RADU_LYKAN/bfg/bfgesbww_zps3517fd7b.jpg) (http://s364.photobucket.com/user/RADU_LYKAN/media/bfg/bfgesbww_zps3517fd7b.jpg.html)

no they are not going to count as nova cannons lol.
my ideas for the ship rules wise are the dreaded 2 hit point escort, although its only a little bit longer than the sword or falchion it is considerably bulkier and i havent finished on it yet. for weapons i am going for a single cruiser weapon pods worth of weaponry that can only fire to the front so 2 lances, 6 wb, 1 lb with maybe 3 wb. i think 4 torpedoes is equivalent to wb 6 or 2 lances but am unsure as to how i would model them as of yet.

let the comments/criticism begin :)

thanks for the comments, this has taken a back seat while i worked on an enforcer, its nearly finished now
(http://i364.photobucket.com/albums/oo90/RADU_LYKAN/bfg/enforcerwip1_zpsf9a17209.jpg) (http://s364.photobucket.com/user/RADU_LYKAN/media/bfg/enforcerwip1_zpsf9a17209.jpg.html)

(didnt dry fit everything and the wings dont fit now due to the launchbays being in the way a bit)
once it is done i will try to get back to the heavy escorts

little update, the enforcer is now built

bit untidy due to the wings being about 5 or 6mm lower than standard but whos going to see it upside down?

eventually got the enforcer painted along with a few extras, entered them in gothicomp last year

anyway........
having recently painted some inquisitor 54mm bases using my eventual nid scheme i decided more nids were needed. although 40k nids are a long way off for me, back in 2009 i did a few mock ups of some nid ships for bfg

Very nice ships and great work!

I used coke sheet to magnetise the other parts, as I posted here:

i went for the less finger shredding option of paper clips :)
work continues on the Golden Fool, have now added paperclips to a few weapon options and finished greenstuffing gaps (hate working with metals :( ) finally got a chance to get it undercoated as well
(http://i364.photobucket.com/albums/oo90/RADU_LYKAN/bfg/goldenfool%20sprayed_zpsypyi2rs2.jpg) (http://s364.photobucket.com/user/RADU_LYKAN/media/bfg/goldenfool%20sprayed_zpsypyi2rs2.jpg.html)
(http://i364.photobucket.com/albums/oo90/RADU_LYKAN/bfg/dodgy%20paperclip%20shot_zpskzhe7anx.jpg) (http://s364.photobucket.com/user/RADU_LYKAN/media/bfg/dodgy%20paperclip%20shot_zpskzhe7anx.jpg.html)
(http://i364.photobucket.com/albums/oo90/RADU_LYKAN/bfg/options_zpsgqs9rbuu.jpg) (http://s364.photobucket.com/user/RADU_LYKAN/media/bfg/options_zpsgqs9rbuu.jpg.html)
this allows for any configuration. if i find it bothers me then the prow might get magnetised as well for non torpedo ships although that just seems a bit too far :)

I saw your ships in Gothicomp- unfortunately I have to agree that the 'nids don't photograph well, though I love the conversions!

Hurt my back pretty bad the other day, the drugs they put me on leave me feeling all groggy but with the time off work I managed to get a few bfg ships done.
My randomly coloured battlecruiser squadron got some reinforcements,
Armageddon class, The Emerald Queen
(http://i364.photobucket.com/albums/oo90/RADU_LYKAN/bfg/IMG_2780_zpslocq5nyo.jpg) (http://s364.photobucket.com/user/RADU_LYKAN/media/bfg/IMG_2780_zpslocq5nyo.jpg.html)
Knight class, The Valyria
(http://i364.photobucket.com/albums/oo90/RADU_LYKAN/bfg/IMG_2777_zpsxxfsptse.jpg) (http://s364.photobucket.com/user/RADU_LYKAN/media/bfg/IMG_2777_zpsxxfsptse.jpg.html)
Dominion class, The Raven
(http://i364.photobucket.com/albums/oo90/RADU_LYKAN/bfg/IMG_2774_zpsszaoef5k.jpg) (http://s364.photobucket.com/user/RADU_LYKAN/media/bfg/IMG_2774_zpsszaoef5k.jpg.html)

Did a tester for my chaos fleet. Fluff reason for the bone colour is the ships have all been covered in powdered bone paste as part of a ritual to allow daemons to freely walk around the ships
(http://i364.photobucket.com/albums/oo90/RADU_LYKAN/bfg/IMG_2782_zpsupr41mxr.jpg) (http://s364.photobucket.com/user/RADU_LYKAN/media/bfg/IMG_2782_zpsupr41mxr.jpg.html)
More powerful ships will get more gold trim

Digging the second ships colour scheme. That's cool. Is it purple washes over silver?

The Chaos sips is nice. That's an awful lot of powdered bone. 0.o.

I like the chaos ship test too. Very original and looking like Evil foe at first sight.
Title: Re: [BFG] currently Chaos test

Borak- It was actually red wash at the top, then purple across the middle then blue at the bottom but it doesn't seem to have worked how I wanted, still like it but not quite as intended.
That's not a lot of bones, Wait till the rest of the fleet is done :)

Marell le fou - cheers, evil is good when we're talking about chaos

Being stuck in the house I have played the app game bfg leviathan quite a bit as it now has necrons. Playing this and the recent chaos tester have gotten me all enthused on my chaos fleet. Today I got my build on and cleaned and built some cruisers/grand cruisers
Would have got some paint on them but my brother in law has borrowed the last can of spray :( here's my bfg to be painted tray after today's additions

Title: Re: [BFG] currently Chaos test

That's a hard one, def have maybe 3 more cruisers, at least 6 of each escort but 7 8 9 rings a bell. Then it depends on if I can find the "lost" (sure I had more than 2 battleships) desolator, so roughly, lots :)

Heretic -unnamed
Fanatic - unnamed also it now occurs to me that I have forgotten to put a lance on the prow, will be rectified asap
Schismatic - unnamed
Pagan - unnamed

Any thoughts on the missing ship names? Hopefully soon I can get started on the rest of the fleet, on that note, anybody have any spare chaos weapon batteries?
