I've dicided to make a BFG addon, sub game type thingy
Pirates, it revolves around Pirates
some of the things i'm putting in is like small points games, light cruiser and escort heavy fleets, some unique ships for Pirates and other races (adeptus Arbites in the case of imperials), new senarios and a few other things
any ideas are welcome

Cool,,

Progress so far
Points limit of 1,000 - this would be the largest scale battle allowed representing a major assault on a pirate base/major raid/rival pirates coming together for battle over territory
New ship - Adeptus Arbites Oppressor Class Strike Cruiser: essentially a more support role oriantated version of the Punisher
new upgrade CQB (close quater battle) experts - well re-wording of an exsisting special rule and turned into a upgrade option, gives a baording bonus
plans for two new forms of space station - Pirate and Imperial Anti-Piracy base......maybe a tau one too
-
heres the new strike cruiser, what do people think?
(apologies for the messy format, seems tables don't paste properly)
Oppressor Strike Cruiser (0-3)
Ship type hits speed turn shields points
Cruiser 6 25cm 90⁰ 1 190
armour weapons range/speed strength/firepower fire arc turrets
6/5+ rear Port launch Bays Fighters/bombers 2 - 2
Starboard Launch bays Fighters/bombers 2 -
Dorsal Bombardment cannon 30cm 4 Front/left/right
Prow Lance battery 30cm 3 front
-
heres a teaser of another new ship.....but lets see who can get the reference
A small and extremely fast ship, the is popular with captains running their own small shipping business in a system, even venturing to nearby systems their close enough. Because of its numerous small compartments this vessel is also used for smuggling, in fact it is believed that nearly all examples of the vessel are used for smuggling at some point or another with the Captains using legitimate cargo as a decoy. Thanks to their speed, small size and manoeuvrability are extremely hard to hit, even attack craft struggle, especially if the crew are mad enough to pull a “crazy Ivanâ€. Needless to say this ship is a common sight, despite its age.
whoever guess correctly will be titled space cowboy of the week

OH OH OH OH [jumps up and down]

Firefly

Oh I suck again!!!! ;D
-
I love this idea, sounds like a blast.
How about writing up some background for a pirate captain with a cybernetic parrot? Please, oh please, oh please!
Anyone ever heard of the group Alestorm? I can't think of more appropriate music! Pills, Duggie, pills are good...
Seriously though, sounds like you're on to a great idea. I played a couple of pirate games recently and thoroughly enjoyed it. I know that you can take escort carriers to flesh out the attack craft a bit but one thought I had rattling around (I sent one of the trained squirrels to chase it down but it's gone MIA) was a special flagship with a complement (complement; grammar WIN) of assault boats might add some interesting flavour to a pirate fleet. Nothing crazy like the Jovian class, but a single ship of battlecruiser size could be an interesting addition to larger pirate fleets.
You could make this a special objective for the adeptus arbites - destroying/capturing it netting extra bonuses in the same vein as a space marine venerable battlebarge.
Enough random babblings for now.
Cheers,

well space cowboy of the week is scuy
alhtough i also plan on doing a milenium Falcon type ship called something like millenium aquila?????
pirate character with cybernetic parrot, you sir are a gentlman and a scholar
for attack craft carriers i've thrown in the enforcer and of course there are the two Adeptus Arbites ships
-
Thanks Connahr, shame they didn't keep that show alive.
-
i know its so quoteble too
been whatching agenst of sheild (Joss Whedon does this too) and i swear its got a bit of Firefly in it.......something about the fighting a cowboy followed by "this is like the old west" reminded me of Firrefly
anyway i went very off topic there
i think i'll make this "guess the reference" a regular thing
-
Hey Connahr,
As you can see in experimental rules site, I am in the business again, maybe next week I will post the first draft of my skirmish idea, I hope it is useful for you ;).
Maybe you would be interested In a join venture? ::)
-
sounds like a plan, i'll try and e-mail what i've got so far
-
We can check maybe we can create a goggle group or something to work together whogever wants to join.
-
You could start it up in the chit chat thread.
-
right so i've made some more progress, out lined fleet limits for the imperial navy and i've decided that the merchants/rouge traders fleet will be turned into a sort of imperial sub-faction used in specific senarios (or if you just feel like it), i'll be doing this with the tau who will also have a merchant navy type sub list
pirates - options to take human, ork and eldar ships (but not ork and eldar) and chaos cultists (not full on marks of chaos but sort of a mild version)
tau - similar to imperial navy - have main list and merchant sub-list
chaos will have its own raider oriantated list
necron/tyranids will be there but I'm not sure on how to make them fit in with the pirate
Eldar/corsairs/dark eldar, well they were pretty much pirates to begin with
when i get round to the senarios i'm going to try and make a story driven campaign, as you play the campaign the fleets get larger and the result of some battles will determine which senario is next/advantages and dis-advantages
-
Sounds cool so far :).
-
Re: Necrons and Tyranids;
Perhaps the bugs could fit in as splinter fleets separated from the hive mind and having to rely on pirate actions to sustain themselves?
The necrons might be represented in the same light - a smashed dynasty with a rogue lord eking out an existence and quietly pursuing goals of revenge? (I have not read the new necron codex so I know nothing about the new dynasty back-story)
Cheers,

yeah forgot all about this project until last night
well i've done some thinking and heres some more ideas for peoples comments
pirates - made of orks, human, chaos, dark eldar, eldar corsairs - taking ships from one faction will prevent you from taking certian others: for example Eldar cannot be taken with dark eldar and chaos
with pirates i was also thinking of introducing a rule set where you could choose the pirate badn to be made up of a majority of one race (example 2 ork ships for every none ork ship) and that doing this would enable special upgrades, ships and characters
thoughts people
-
It sounds intersting, I'm guessing this would be focusing mainly on smaller ships like the 2010 list?
-
yeah small ships: escort, light cruiser and one or two regular cruisers if their background fits them into a convy flagship/escort/anti-pirate role
-
finsihed the Imperial section off
i'm gonna start on the Pirates next
Edit: Armand has kindly offered to produce both the punished and oppresser Strike cruisers, thus eliminating the need for costly conversions or tracking parts down
-
started work on the pirates Fleet list; so far i've done the restrictions, cultist upgrades and started the rules for having a 'dominant' race within the fleet
next i'll start on some unique pirate characters
also armand has put both the Adeptus Arbites Punisher and Oppresser strike cruisers on shapeways :)
-
well this project has already reached 14 pages and 5,800 words
I'm part of the way through the Pirate Characters, suggestions are welcome as i want to try and have a few
so far there is Bakars's Chariot (fanatic magazine) and a mysterious Pagan class light cruiser which seems to have a vendetta against Chaos
I'm planning on adding one for each major race, these will be light cruisers. I'll also come up with some escort squadrons to be famous mercs or a small pirate band of some renown
-
armand has released some more transports which has gotten my inspired to do a bit more work on this
once i've finished the pirate fleet list i'll make what i've got so far avalible for download and then people can play test it
-
Sounds good!
-
great news everyone
i've got two more ships to make rules for the pirates (i'll do it tomorrow night, i'm too tierd right now), the rest i'll just list as the rules are already down on BFG:R, so play testing can comence (i will write the full stats in eventually)
after this i'll make a senario or two for testing
-
ok, written rules for pirate fleet list
and i'm play testing a senario as i type
-
i have now posted the imperial and pirate fleet lists in the experimental rules sections along with the additional rules i've come up with for BFG:pirates
-
hey, while since I've been active
recently started getting stuck into my hobbies again and thought i'd get some more done on this project
anyone have any thoughts, or given it a try?
I made two scenarios some time ago and play tested one based around smugglers trying to get past imperial patrols. It worked out as quiet a fun game as it was less about guns and more about manoeuvring and deception
-
We already have "wolf pack" and "pirates, raiders..." - 2 different rulesets for pirates.
Edit: This doesn't mean that you shouldn't create pirate rules. It just does mean that you should check these two rulesets, for inspiration. Or, if you wan't to create something etirely different, to make sure your rules are not too similar.
Edit2: And yes, this does mean that i am interested in your final results. ^^
