Title: What's the point of Undead Carrion if they don't have initiative?
Post by: Stormwind on November 12, 2013, 08:13:49 PM
Flyers as far as I can see are a unit you throw behind enemy lines, hoping to get a flank or rear charge the next turn if they survive.

But with Undead, they never get initiative charge.  Flyers can only be commanded if a stand is within 20cm of them - so the carrion seem to be completely stranded wherever you put them.

Not sure therefore if they have much of a purpose...

Two things:
REALLY long charge distance, given there's LoS to the target of your charge

If you get behind the enemy, they are a real pain in the ass because of the command modifier they impose for being within 20cm. The enemy has to execute at least two orders to get rid of that cheap flier unit in his rear.

Remember that the Tomb King has an unlimited command distance too, so it's not out of the realm of possibility to order the carrion in from far away.

OK, understood - but the maximum command range for Flyers is 20cm so you have to rely on Home Back after that first casting of them into the fire. =-P

Not to mention the classic move of landing them right behind enemy lines that you just charged blocking off the retreat. A newbie friend of mine is an Orc player and "hates" all armies with flyers due to a combination of this and the obvious detrimental effect on an already dicey C&C when you start adding enemies within 20 cm out of line of sight.

You can also use them to finish off the one stand remnanst of units that are avoiding combat because of the breaking point limit.

Also do not forget that they are monster (+1 attack in open) they are short base, and if they attack infantery carrion could fly away and not be pusuit... They are hard hitting in the undead army.

Also could manace the artillery or reinforce quickly a decisiveley combat.

In my experience it is worth in undead army.

Oh, and they are a good counter to enemy fliers in that they can pursue them and are as jchaos said, hard hitting in the undead army.

Just got to love crowd sourcing tactics. :)

Use a Hero on a dragon and charge Cavalry units in the edge...with this combination you kill any cavalry unit quite easy.

Use them without a hero and put em 1cm behind the units that you have charged...this way they block the reteat and charged unit is easily killed (if close combat got won)
