I'm currently painting a Black Guard unit of Dark-Elves, to be used as proxy for Lancers.

I had bought an already painted 1500 pts army, so i'm using the same painting schema. Mithril and violet.

I had bought some original figs from Bell few months ago and it's time to use them.

I'm not that fond of the champion, who looks like an assassin and was probably set up to fit this rôle, but as i nead a leader, i finaly used him.

At first, i set 6 figs per rank, as for the classical lancers, but Bell told me he used 5 and i finaly agreed. With 5, rankd looks approx the same as classical lancers and it's great like that.

I used artificial stone from the Prince-August range and i'm very satisfied of it. It does grip well to the plastic base, has a nice aspect and a very thin granularity. The only bad news is that dry in few hours, so you can't hope to finish your session with painting when you use it.

They look very good. What pieces did you use to convert them?
-
Original figs from the Characters blister. There are some dark elves on foot, plus the sorcerer.

IIRC there was a sculpted BG leader in the pack - horned helmet/halberd, looks similar the drummer.
-
You mean the content of the blister has changed ? It's the case for several charatcer blisters (kislev, dwarves, high-elves...).
Do someone had a picture of this footman ?
-
wow... in terms of current eBay prices, this is gonna be one of the most expensive units ever :-D

Nope. The one figure amongst those ones I sent.
-
YES ! Yes ! I found it ! With my classical Halleberdiers of course, and it was the last figs at the bottom of the drawer...

I gave him a black and gold schema, to indicate his rank. A little be kitch but it's clearly visible among the others.

Here is the leaders base.

And the unit.

I began to put one fig and then artificial stone but it was loooong and i wanted to end the main part of the job today, so i finally glued everybody.

I'm happy i made this unit. Bell's figs are great, and the unit has a nice looking. Different from the lancers, but not that much. Perfect for Warmaster and to be used as proxy.
I will follow with Executors and probably Corsairs, and it will be very nice to have units with different aspects, even if they are played the same way. I'm wondering about a unit of Chariots with Cold-Blod, but i don't have the figs three time. If someone does... I'm interested. To be played as prox for Cold-One Riders.
Artificial Stone from Prince August is really great. I appreciate it thinness. Hard to put between each fig, but with classical sprues it should just be perfect for basing.
-
I would make a red leader's plume. The black one makes him too outstanding. Golden details are enough.
-
Just a recommendation... now if you wash the minis with some shader, they are gonna look something like this:http://www.forum.specialist-arms.com/index.php?topic=5412.0 (http://www.forum.specialist-arms.com/index.php?topic=5412.0) with almost no extra effort...
-
I'm unsure. My colours are far less hot or flashy. No red nor exploding yellow.
-
Love it - always nice to see cool and unique units. Good painting and modelling Marell and excellent sculpting Bel!
Would love to see this unit when its completely finished.

I hope to finish basing this week end or maybe this evening. I will add pictures when everything will be finished.
-
Is Bell still selling those, then? :-X
-
Not now. Please wait for next year spring, there is some new stuff ready for moulding.

Ohhwwww is that what I think it is ?? 8) ::)
-
Probably. But this is a thread for marell's BG.

Advertising is gladly accepted if you give us preview pictures :)

I prefer to not show intervening stuff unless getting final results. Sorry.
-
Here they are during basing process.
Artificial Stone is really nice to work on. I'm happy with the result.
Brown paint, and then brown+black wash and finally gobelin green addition... On the main base, i have added dark green between the two last stages, but i finally prefer without.

Nice! They look suitably grim.
-
Very nice. You have chosen a nice colour scheme.
Some well intentioned constructive criticism: If it were me, I'd try and tone down the brightness of the metal just a little with a black wash?
Lovely unit you have there.
Dave

True, i did not washed them. I was afraid it would lesser the bright aspect. I could have wahsed black and then re put some few mithril silver points, but i was unsure of the result.
I wanted a shiny aspect for elves are in my mind clad in mithril chain mail, not classical steel. So the blinking aspectsuits them well. Maybe a little too artificial, i recognise it. I may make some few tests and see what to do. Everything is still possible, even is they are based.
-
I think it's always worth trying a wash - remember that you can dilute it with a medium if you want. =)
-
I have no medium, i'm stuck in my island with few possibilities to buy one (means zero). I will go to France soon. Do you council one in particular ?
-
I actually dilute wash with just a TINY bit of dish soap and it works like a charm. Test it first, of course.
