Title: Tactical Command forums
Post by: CyberShadow on August 30, 2009, 11:19:36 AM: Just to let you know that the TacCom boards are currently down. As of right now, I have no idea why this might be the case, I just woke up to find them unavailable, and I am contacting the web hosts to get some more info.

For future reference, I will use this board as the default place for notices when something goes wrong with TacCom, and I will use TacCom if anything happens to this board. If they both go down at the same time.... I will mostly just run around in a panic! :P

Just so you know, it isn't just the forums that are unavailable; www.tacticalwargames.net resolves to a Host Papa 403 forbidden page.

Thanks. The 403 is just a filler page that the hosts drop in when the main index disappears. I have now changed this - in fact I changed it this morning, so try a refresh. It should be back to an official front page now.

Is the problem just outdated hardware or substandard software or what? My thinking is maybe a pledge drive for Tactical Command. Seriously, anyone who can pitch in a few bucks and the next thing you know you could probably pump some serious pounds into a primo system.

The server needs configuring and we are shooting emails backwards and forwards to get this done. When it is set up, it should be a simple matter of installing and turning it back on again.

I still dont know exactly how an entire directory can get up and walk off over night! ??? I am still attempting to get the server configured, as you can probably tell that the install scripts for the boards are not working right now. Once this is done, I will install the boards and link them to the database and we should be good to go.

Any vague idea how long it might take out of curiosity? Hope you can fix it and thanks for all your good work!

Post by: CyberShadow on September 04, 2009, 12:11:27 PM: Yeah, its all backed up (all three sections - here, TacCom and WikiWikiWar - are backed up around twice a week). I could just move the directory back, but if the installer doesnt work, the code probably wont either, and code is fragile for this kind of thing. Installing is a 30 minute job (I have done it many times now! ;D ). As soon as the server settings are done, I will get moving again.

If it is a money issue, well I don't even have a job at the moment, yet I would help out with a donation. Serious withdrawl issues and every other forum that I go to (4 others) are not doing it for me.

Do the drive. I am sure there are enough interested parties to help you out

I'm also a Perl guru if you need some help fiddling with the guts of the forum code.
