Hi,
I'm new in Warmaster. My choice is Norse army. I searched net and I have had now:
Eureka miniatures:
[400FAN11] Mammupach with howdah for War Mammoth
[400FAN20] Woolly Rhinos for characters
Old glory:
[SVN100] Viking Command
[SVN101] Vikings with Axes
[SVN102] Viking Bondi
for Bondsmen and Huscarls
[SVN104] Viking Berserkers for Berserkers
[SVN103] Viking Archers for Hunters
Copplestone Castings:
[FM17] Gog the Hill Giant and
[FM18] Magog the Hill Giant as Storm Giants (thanks to Athenas!)
[TM11] 10mm Horse Tribe Cavalry and
[TM14] 10mm Horse Tribe Royal Cavalry for Cavalry units
[TM8] 10mm Giant Wolves as part of Ulfewerener unit
Some photos for comparison reasons: http://raia.rajce.idnes.cz/Warmaster_Norse_army#
Basic army is bought, so now I would like to make some characters and Valkyries. Do you have any advices for them?
-
Valkyries - there are elves riding giant eagles in the Eureka range, would that do?
-
I was thinking about Pendraken Pegasus, but where found according woman in armour?
-
There is a pic of valkiria unit in warmuster nº2, maybe it could be a source of inspiration.
There is a catalogue section around here, maybe seeing figures some ideas pops up. Also if you want to colaborate would be great.
Nice selection of norse, looking forward to see the progress and some norse battles!
-
Should look well , and very colourful .

So, I have made some little progress in my Norse army.
I would like to adjust softly common viking minis to better and stronger Norse warriors.
First step is change small shields of OldGlory miniatures with larger ones. What you think about it?
-
And another member of my army - Storm giant - 90% WIP based on Copplestone giant.
Artwork as draft
(http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4_4IBqQ7PrA/UuigPgSXmWI/AAAAAAAA9lE/DGt2x-YWmnw/s1600/giantt10.jpg)
-
And all of them together 8)
-
Oh very nice! I approve!
-
Thats freaking cool! keepem coming!
-
Yeah ! Don't forget tatoos when painting him.
-
The giant is ubercool! :)
-
I have changed shields a little. What you think?
-
Better!
-
Yep. Really better.
-
[TM11] 10mm Horse Tribe Cavalry and
[TM14] 10mm Horse Tribe Royal Cavalry for Cavalry units
My friend has used Old Glory Goth Cavalry. It fits in range better than Copplestone (IMHO).

+ some were in Compendium
+ probably you may find some there http://vk.com/albums-25062780

Really cool giant.
About the type os shield modifications. I think both of them are a good work. You could use both of them to distinguish units of infantry.
Good work
-
Hi all,
here you can see my first attempt to create norse warriors.
On the left is original viking command from Old Glory.
First step:
- I have truncated helmets (for better "callote" visage),
- all shields and spears have been cut off,
- to complete whole first line I have added two warriors .
-
Second step:
- I have added fearsome norse look by some horns and furs (hairs).
I hope you like them as to me. Whole change took me about four hours ( including washing a dishes to calm my wife, but after that she prepare me another set of shields and ... an apricot cake of course :-) ).
Next step on another day. Too late for me now.
-
looks awesome, great idea
-
Oh wow, those are awesome!
-
Agree with what's been said already. The conversions are great and I look forward to seeing the painted versions.
-
Giant against Dwarf Trollslayers
-
A brave giant. Were any Giant Slayers born that day?
-
It's a shame the Old Glory historicals strips are just slightly too narrow - forcing you to clip out extras to fit the 40mm by 20mm base!
-
What happened in the clash: did the giant died by the dwarves axes or did the giant crush the red beards?
-
Unfortunately died and took only one stand by him.
In second battle I used it as splitter of brigade. He charged flame cannon and destroy him. But I forgot that engaged units (troops were by side of cannon) are by corners too. So he lost fight by supporting units. After that he retreated and both of troop units pursued him and cought him by sides. Giant was killed by smash of attacks.
But after that !!! both units reformed and touched by sides, so they create a new brigade. What a disappointment for me any my dead Giant.
Experience: Giant shouldn't charge alone. And if he charges, he must charge only against stand of troops.
-
Swords are missing at Old glory viking minis , So I have decided to make some by Cu wire.
Here you can see result.
-
Moin,
that's absolutely stunning work. Well done!
Ole

Nice work!!

Thanx! Children help me a lot :D

It's great having shallow hills like that for 10mm gaming, good stuff.

Today I would like to ask you for advice.
I have started to work on mammoth and I would like to make him more "Norse". So I have changed Eureka howdah by pieces of Norse ship. The sides are ok I think.
Now I would like to add prow, but I dont know where to position him (if any) - above the head, or above the backbone.
Should I add top platform too ?
Thank you in advance.
Original mamoth from Eureka is here:

-
Great idea!
I do not know, maybe I leave the head of the beast clear, or even do not use the boat quil.
It is really big, which side is the carboard/plastic base you are using?
(I did the little brother of yours using Irregular one http://www.forum.specialist-arms.com/index.php?topic=187.510)
-
I agree with leaving the head clear, even if it means trimming down the boat prow to fit the scale better (I don't know if that's needed?).
I'm also making a Chaos Mammoth from that model- Where did you get the shields from? I want to do that but couldn't find an easy source. I've taken hints from the Forgeoworld mammoth, with tusk decorations and an armoured head (when I finally get around to it).
-
Under the mammoth is standard 6x4cm base. Howdah is cca 4cm long and 1,5cm wide. And is magnetised.
"The body" was made by pieces of ship model 1:180 "Drakkar Oseberg" (http://www.ivr.scorpion.orbitel.bg/photo/Default.aspx?dir=/My%20hobby/Ships/Drakkar%20Oseberg%201-180%20Heller/).

I have made shields myself. Look at start of this thread.
Do you have any pictures of your mammoth for inspiration?
-
It's mostly just the standard mammoth right now, but sure- I'll post some pics of what I've done and what I've based it on
-
"Sir! Sir! They are coming!", shouted young squire watching from castle window.
"How many?", asked dispassionately baron Venceslav.
"I can see... Three long boat sails".
"What "boats"? Are you drunk? Our castle was built miles from seashore", growled old baron.
"Eh, Sir! Three long boats on mammoths".
"Shit. On the walls!" shouted baron loudly.
His old eyes catch fire as he was young warrior .
Last version Mammoth with howdah ::)
Sorry for my english, but it was so interesting idea I must finish it.
-
And here is last night work - Norse general on large base.
-
Cool work!
-
The mammoth is crazy (in a good way!). And I really like the Eureka Chaos Dwarf conversion as the general. Look forward to seeing more of this project.
-
Long delay, but I had to take a rest of conversions. So I have built Skaven army.
Here is in full glory:

It's clever to use the casualty markers to make nice bases ! I had not seen this idea used before.

Yes, very interesting.

Valkyries are coming...

Were Kin Hero / Shaman by Battle of Five armies Beorn

And my personal top of skills
Horn of Resounding
-
And some other views to it
-
Nice ! I did not know this unit. It's a horn producing ghosts ?
-
Crazy! But in a good way. Really like the ambition. And character mounts can never be too big. Can they?!
-
Nice ! I did not know this unit. It's a horn producing ghosts ?
In rules it is upgrade of Wizard (chariot mount), which allow to send orders to flyer monster unit (150pts) . But yes, it is Horn which calls ghosts"
A single Shaman in a Norse army may be given the Horn of Resounding as a chariot mount upgrade. This not only gives some benefit in close combat but also allows the Shaman once per battle to summon the unit of Valkyries to aid the army in battle. The first precondition for summoning the Valkyries is that at least one stand of Norsemen must have been destroyed in a previous Combat phase. The second precondition is that there must be Norse units engaged in combat within 60cm of the Shaman. Once these preconditions are met then the Shaman may try to summon the Valkyries in the Norse Command phase instead of issuing a normal command.
The way that this is done is that the Shaman takes a command check with a -2 modifier to his command value. If the roll is successful then the Valkyries are placed on the battlefield within 20cm of the Shaman, but not into combat. The Shaman may then attempt further orders on them; most likely this would be used to get the Valkyries into combat. The initial command roll is the only roll with the -2 modifier applied to the Shaman's command value. However, for every Norse unit that has been completely wiped out, there is a +1 positive modifier to the Shaman's command value for the purpose of summoning the Valkyries, to a maximum command value of 10. This means that the more Norsemen have already died, then the greater is the chance of the Valkyries' turning up.
In subsequent turns the Valkyries may only be ordered by the Shaman with the Horn of Resounding. They can still move by initiative, but may only Home Back towards the Shaman with the Horn of Resounding. In addition, if the Shaman is killed, or rolls a blunder then the Valkyries disappear from the battlefield, their job being complete. Valkyries neither add to the army's break point, nor their loss through combat or through disappearing contributes to reaching the army break point for the purposes of withdrawal. Your opponent will not gain any victory points from destroying the Valkyries, or if they disappear because of a blunder by the summoning Shaman. However, killing the Shaman with the Horn of Resounding will grant the full victory points, as well as the immediate withdrawal of the Valkyries from the field of battle. So, look after that character!
Valkyries are flyers, thus all the rules for flyers apply. Due to their rather eerie spectral nature, not to mention the method in which they enter the battle they cause terror in combat.
-
Crazy! But in a good way. Really like the ambition. And character mounts can never be too big. Can they?!
I think it is not important in game how a character base is big. Command range is measured from center of base.
-
I agree. I have some very big character bases too!
