Hey fellow SG enthusiasts
while new to this forum I'm no stranger to our beloved hobby niche.
A couple of years ago, say maybe 5, I started a regular gaming cadre of WM enthusiasts and assisted in running a few tournaments. While 3k games are the norm and bucketloads of fun, I've kind of found the effort required to set up and manage games and the length of the games a commitment greater than the enjoyment I was eventually getting out of the experience. Four out of five games, there'd always be one flank or usually the center where the "real" action happened, the other two thirds of the board (for which terrain had been painted, miniatures prepped and painstakingly transported and deployed...) where...well...not much seemed to take place. They were maneuver warfare/backdrops to where the action was taking place.
Thus taking inspiration from Minigeddon when that was released and we started playing the format, I came up with "Warhamster" - ie 1k games that run 1-1.5hr, are all in action, and due to the 1000pt min/max structure of the army lists make a great turn up and play/tournament format.
No longer is the whole gaming evening at the club (usually 6-11:30) dedicated to one game of Warmaster. We can now meet up at 6, have a game, sink a few bevvies, and break out a boardgame or game of Magic or a whatever else takes our fancy throughout the evening.
If you're in Melbourne, Australia, we'll be running a Warhamster tournament 4-11 at UniCon in the city on the first weekend of October after the main Flames of War tournament.
All are welcome, of course - if you can make the trip from country Victoria or Timbuktu for all I care come join us for some bevvies and dice rolling!
So enough with the self promotion and introductory spiel - here's a pair of practice games from the past weekend.
Hope you enjoy them as I look forward to trawling the forums and making many new online friends!
