Title: How does cannon fire drive me back?

When a cannon strikes two of my units, passing through two ranks in a brigade - how do I work out their being driven back / making way / confusion?

The hits occur simultaneously but you get to decide the order of the drive back. Move the back one first, resolving confusion for it. Then move the one in front, doing the same.
