Title: [WM] Squigs - proxy's and modeling
Post by: mlkr on October 06, 2014, 07:30:05 PM
So I have gotten it into my head that I want to find proxy models and make/create squigs for Warmaster 10mm scale. Just to add a bit of fun and extra to my army :)

So to start it off I thought I'd ask for input here and see if someone has any good suggestions.

The only thing that is commercially available - at the moment - are these from Pendraken:

Although if you're prepared to wait - possibly only a short time - there might be some others rampaging westwards from the Steppes... ;)

Absolutely stunning. When the website is fully up and running and Grimgor Ironhide is added to the mix I am definitely going to splurge on those models ...  ;D

Very nice!

I knew about the pendraken ones but had not seen the Polar fox-miniatures before! Thank you ^_^

Other solutions for even more diversity:
So far I have been looking at a few of the old oop squigs that are notably smaller and might work for 10mm.

40K Runtherd Squig Hound as a possible mount for character.

Same with the 40K Ork Warboss attack squig (already seen that one done as a mount somewhere).

Also found a Squig on backpole originally from a 40K Nob that seems to be in a nice size for conversion.

Also thinking about using the latest Gobbla (Skarsniks "pet" Squig) together with the older one to create a  Mangler Squigs-model. Count as giant? Maybe Gobbla is too big but 2 regular ones would to the trick :)

And of course - If I could find parts of the FW Squig gobbla I could do some conversions for really hilariously emotional squigs...

And another one good for a silly emotional squig

What do you guys think? :)

So finally got some old squig-models into my hands and did a comparizon for size.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/mellqvist/

Should work pretty nicely I think :) The plan is to mold these and pour liquid clay into the molds. This will create a base for the conversionwork. Results can then be molded once more and then I will hopefully get some some casted up in resin. Clay used is something called Monster Makers clay that is usually used for masks and prostethics and such. Want to try it out for miniaturesculpting also.

I also started to build a little homemade vacuumchamber to get airbubbles out of moldresin. You can see that in the album. (Also some pics from my trip to Australia a that ended just about a year ago since I can't figure out how to link to specific images on flickr.)

Simple/trashy build that will hopefully hold up for the intended job once completed. I'll use a spare vacuumer from home to suck the air out of the box. The top of the box will have holes drilled in it so that the air gets sucked out. The glassbox will fit snuggly on with some rubber... -something or the other in english :P

That's it for now :)
