Thanks everybody.
The defences are gone be avaible soon on shapeways.
But the Legion will need some modifications before (intense modifications..?).

Mon Dieu! Any chance of expanding the "Legion" fleet to include a totally not a Battle Barge?

I was thinking to make a barge too !
But i'm not sure i understand what your were saying....
And i was thinking of the interst of some kind Support Cruiser to fill the gap in between the barge and the strike cruiser.

I think what DinoDoc meant with "not a battle barge" was basically a battlebarge, but then 'non-official' since technically it's illegal to copy GW's designs.

Ok :)
So so far you agree with the general design ?

Just like wintermans has "Space Bugs"  for sale.  ;)
I am feeling it's taking eventually this road... :)

I will change some part for sure of this last model.
I am not really happy with the prow...but feeling the planetary bombarde is having a good size (and don't look to some lance neither).

Not so sure about the two different weapon on each side of the Strike Cruiser, the quad barreled weapons seem interesting, but are missing something at the moment, would need some additional detailing.

I for one am very curious how 'evil' counterparts of these ships would look like! :D

Maybe make the prow vertical?

Great stuff, wow!

Would those blast markers work with a less detailed print to make them more affordable, or would that compromise the little spikes and stuff?
Title: Re: 3D project(s)
Post by: Pix on October 23, 2014, 06:14:52 PM
The French community is asking the same.
I just made available the FU option. The are almost 10€ cheaper.
But the quality is not as nice than a FUD print. It's can be noisy. The spick will be less sharp...but will still grab the paint.

great models. one suggestion that will help sales / [price point] is going to be to make each item a multi part model and hollow out the insides as much as you can. Right now the models are not optimized for printing at affordable (or as affordable as we can get) prices. :) Regardless of prices, fantastic designs!
No idea about the mechanics of 3d printing though.
Title: Re: 3D project(s)
Post by: Pix on October 25, 2014, 07:47:36 AM
Hi there,
about the 3D printing process, there is a lot a different type of technics regarding the material you want, the definition, the speed of print. Almost all the 3D print process work by creating the model layer by layer.
FUD (and FD) are bi-composant print. One is the resine you keep, the other one is just some wax which are working like a support (to manage cantilever....). You may find some wax on your print (and i will post soon a small "how to" about the best process i found to clean your prints).

The main idea when you design and print is to be sure you only have materiel where you need. So the best way to make your model affordable is to make them hollow. Which is the case on all this models (especially the blast one..it's just a 1 mm hull with some spicules on it). I will try to reduce the price like that but i already did a lot to optimize them. There is a 2 mm hole on the bottom to let the wax get out.

;) And Jimmyzimms answer on Shapeways :
Quote
Ahhh looking a bit closer at the 360 render I can see that it appears the bottom is separate now. You can understand my thinking on why I originally posted. Regardless, looking forward to nabbing some of these soon!

I'm digging the whole idea of system ships and such, have you considered doing some more civilian ships and such? So transports, repair craft, factory ships, etc?

I am thinking a lot about...but first: i really want to finish a fleet i can play
and second: master Deadly Kafeine (http://angrykafeine.wordpress.com/ (http://angrykafeine.wordpress.com/)) already produce a lot of vey nice transport ships

Fair enough! A playable fleet is important. I'm working on something similar, check it out here (http://www.forum.specialist-arms.com/index.php?topic=5682.0), curious to hear your thoughts! :)

Kafeine's work is very impressive, I'm curious to see where he's gonna take it. But don't let that stop you to play with your own designs. ;)

http://okb-14.com/files/download/OKB_TrenchRunnerz_VF_1.0.pdf (http://okb-14.com/files/download/OKB_TrenchRunnerz_VF_1.0.pdf)

It's the adaptation of Bommerz over da Sulphur River twisted in more BFG-flavor way.
The idea is to play it with our ordnance models.

The game is for the start in french. But i really hope than i will be able to do a translation soon.

But if you can help on the translation in english it could be super super nice !

And in term of micro fighter for BFG/TrenchRuunerz, i am feeling i will order some model from Monolithic Miniature soon. It's for Firestorm Armada, but he did such a great work on his models :
