This is what i am working out for my 2000 point list. I have all these models (hopefully getting more halbadiers and possibly some skirmishers in a trade)
1) i only have 4 units of knights, cant add what i dont have
2) i LIKE pistoliers, i only got 3 units, but i find they are more versatile than the knights and i when i used to play, i got alot of good use out of them.
Anyways, this is what i am working towards
would love to hear ya'lls thoughts
Hochland Empire Army
Empire Army, 2000 points
Warmaster Armies
----------------------------------------------------------------
180 - 4 Halberdiers (2 units painted, 3rd unit being worked on)
130 - 2 Handgunners (not painted yet)
220 - 4 Crossbowmen (2 units painted, 3rd being worked on)
140 - 2 Flagellants (1 unit painted)
440 - 4 Knights (2 units painted, 3rd nearly finished)
290 - 3 Pistoliers (2 units painted, 3rd being worked on)
- 1 Sword of Fate (5)
100 - 2 Helblaster (1 unit painted, 1 to go)
170 - 2 Cannon (1 unit painted, 1 to go)
125 - 1 General (painted)
160 - 2 Hero (both painted)
45 - 1 Wizard (both painted)
----------------------------------------------------------------
2000 - 23/12
My brigade plans are still being worked out, probably need to get some games in to nail these down
Brigade 1- 2 halbadiers, 1 flaggelant
Brigade 2- 2 halbadiers, 1 flaggelant
Brigade 3- 2 crossbowman, 1 handgunner
Brigade 4- 2 crossbowman, 1 handgunner
Brigade 5- 4 knights
Brigade 6- 3 pistoliers
Brigade 7- 2 cannon, 2 hellblasters
Wow, laid out like this, makes me think i need a 3rd hero. But it would cost me a break point number :/
anyways, thought i would ask you guys, its been like 8 years since i played and i am sure i am rusty as all heck.

Ok, pretty nice.
7 brigades 4 commands including a mage. I think you could handle it, but do not expect quick advances or being a very mobil army.
2 brigades of 2halberdiers+flagellant each sounds good but I never used this type of brigade.
A more traditional arrange of battle could be making your brigades full of 4 units, so then you reduce the number of brigades and maybe you could beneficiate of supporting units. You could add one handgunner to the infantry brigade:
(2 halberdier + flagelant +handguner) *2
4 crossbowmen
4 knights
3 pistoliers
Artillery 2 cannons + 2 helblaster
So you will get 5 brigades and 4 commands, now you have a more mobil army. But... now the army is more compact.
It is an option, I am not saying is better than your setting, but is other possibility
did I said it: really nice paint!

Always good to see more painted lead. =)

I know those Hochlanders :)

I know those Hochlanders :)
uh oh!
facebook guy, but no idea who this is :p
-
I would swap out one of those hellblasters for a 2nd wizard. Yes they can be devastating but more often they are all but useless :( I'd also try to get 2 more units of knights and put them in brigades of 3 + 1 Pistolier... Nothing says "Screw you Hippie!" like hitting a whole block of infantry head on and then shooting its support units to ruin it's day :)
-
While I have several more wizards, including war alter model and converted wizard on griffon. If I drop a hellblaster it drops my break point by one. Do y'all feel the 2nd wizard is worth the loss of a break point??
-
Yes.... Personally I'd drop the other one too and add some skirmishers. Skirmishers can be awesome if used right!

I might have a spare Skirmishers blister (3 stands) for trade for a Helblaster.

Hi there,
For empire I try to create brigades with a front unit of shooters followed by 1 or 2 units of halberdiers, depending on the role of the brigade. On the flanks I make them at least 3 units deep so no single charge can break the flank.
On the artillery: I think it depends on the playing style. 2 units of cannons and 2 hellblasters means that you will have a rather static playing style, waiting for the enemy to attack and then rely on the counter attack. With so few knights that might not be a bad idea.
If you go for a more offensive/dynamic style then you might want to drop some artillery and replace them for cavalry or an offensive brigade.
With the current mix you might be tempted to do both - but if this means you have to split up your army during the game then you will have a tough time.

so making progress
:D

Always nice to see progress being made :D
I get the impression that many players tend to have extra units beyond, say, 2000 points. That way they can vary the composition of their 2000 point army, trying out various combinations to see what works for them.
For example, this is my Empire army (well it will be when I've finished it, I've still got a unit of Knights, 2 units of cannons and 5 Skirmisher stands to paint):
6 x Halberdiers
3 x Handgunners
6 x Crossbowmen
1 x Flagellants
10 x Skirmishers
4 x Knights
5 x Pistoliers
2 x Helblasters
3 x Cannon
2 x Steam Tank
1 x General
5 x Heroes
1 x Hero on Griffon
3 x Wizard
Just under 3500 points. So if I ever manage to play a game, I've got a good variety of units to pick from.

ahh yes
well from memory, this is what i have
Warmaster Army Selector
Empire Army, 3910 points
Warmaster Armies
----------------------------------------------------------------
180 - 4 Halberdiers
260 - 4 Handgunners
440 - 8 Crossbowmen
210 - 3 Flagellants
440 - 4 Knights
285 - 3 Pistoliers
400 - 8 Helblaster
680 - 8 Cannon
260 - 2 Steam Tank
125 - 1 General
400 - 4 Hero
- 1 Griffon (80)
230 - 3 Wizard
- 1 Griffon (80)
- 1 War Altar (15)
----------------------------------------------------------------
3910 - 44/22
But without more halbadiers and presumably knights, i am pretty much stuck at 2k arent i :p
-
Hrrm, yes, you need to take out 4 cannon and 4 Helblasters.
You can use the Warmonger miniatures Swordsmen as Halberdiers proxies, that would be a cheap way to make you legal for 3000 and 4000 points.

I just recalled that I traded them away. :-[ Along with my spare Halberdiers and Knights. :-\ For Lizardmen. ;D
-
Ah well. Appreciate it anyways
-
Well, i done it!
Just ordered me 2 units of warmonger greatswords
because EVERY empire army needs greatswords!
Just sharing, cause well, I am excited, the wife could care less :D
-
after taking into account my new purchase, thinking of this for 2000 points
what do you guys think of a list like this?
Warmaster Army Selector
Hochland Empire Army, 2000 points
Warmaster Armies
----------------------------------------------------------------
270 - 6 Halberdiers
330 - 6 Crossbowmen
140 - 2 Flagellants
340 - 3 Knights
- 1 Sword of Might (10)
290 - 3 Pistoliers
- 1 Sword of Fate (5)
50 - 1 Helblaster
170 - 2 Cannon
125 - 1 General
160 - 2 Hero
125 - 2 Wizard
- 1 War Altar (15)
- 1 Scroll of Dispelling (20)
----------------------------------------------------------------
2000 - 23/12
-
Sounds good for me. I wouldn't change anything (at least with my style of playing with empire)
-
Made one slight change, figured i'd see what ya'll thought of this, compared to the previous list
I like it, cause Hochland is known known for large numbers of handgunners compared to other empire regional armies, and it just seems slightly fluffier to me which is always good
anyways, what do ya'll think of this (albeit slight) variant?

Let us know how this works out for you!
Personally I would probably go for 2 more knights, drop a pistolier, magic sword, wizard and helblaster....
